Getting started About Windows Activation Turning the computer off When you turn the computer on for the first time, the Windows Activation screen appears. 1 2 Follow the activation procedures according to the instructions on the screen to use the computer. They may also be incorrect if the battery has been fully discharged or removed.
Getting started Unlocking the screen Windows To unlock the lock screen, do one of the following: Microsoft Windows is an operating system that is used to control a computer. • Touch screen: Swipe upwards from the bottom of the screen. • Mouse: Click the lock screen. • Keyboard: Press any key. Touchpad: Tap the touchpad. If the account has a password, enter the password to log in after unlocking the screen. • Images and available features may differ depending on the model and operating system.
Basics • When the display panel is tilted past the transition point ‒ The keyboard and touchpad will automatically be locked and will not function. But, during processes that start before Windows operation, such as the BIOS setup or DOS, the keyboard and touchpad will not be locked. Using the computer as a tablet You can use the computer as a tablet by folding the display panel behind the keyboard. ‒ The display will rotate automatically depending on the computer’s orientation.
Basics Using the S Pen Do not bend or apply excessive pressure with the S Pen while using it. The S Pen may be damaged or the nib may be deformed. S Pen • If a magnet is near the computer, some S Pen actions, such as tapping the touch screen, may not work. • If you use the S Pen at sharp angles on the screen, the device may not recognize the S Pen actions. • For more information about the S Pen, visit the Samsung website.
Basics Air command • Create note: Launch the Samsung Notes app and create a new note. Introduction • View all notes: Launch the Samsung Notes app and check all saved notes. • Smart select: Use the S Pen to select an area and perform actions, such as sharing or saving. • Screen write: Capture screenshots to write or draw on them or crop an area from the captured image. Also you can capture content that continues across multiple screens at once.

You can also select an area from a video and capture it as a GIF animation. 1 2 When there is content you want to capture, open the Air command panel and select Smart select. Basics Touch screen Double-tapping To open files or items, double-tap the touch screen. Use your fingers on the touch screen to perform actions. Touch screen gestures Tapping To select menus, options, or apps, tap the touch screen. Touching and holding (right-clicking) To use additional options of an item, touch and hold it on the touch screen.
Basics Dragging Spreading and pinching To move an item to another location, touch and hold it, and then drag it on the touch screen to the desired location. To zoom in, spread two fingers apart on an image or text. Pinch to zoom out. Scrolling To scroll up, down, left, or right, swipe on the touch screen.
Basics • • Do not subject the touch screen to severe impacts or press it with sharp objects. Doing so may damage the touch screen. Do not allow the touch screen to come into contact with other electrical devices. Electrostatic discharges can cause the touch screen to malfunction. • Do not expose the touch screen to water. The touch screen may malfunction in humid conditions or when exposed to water. • Do not spray liquid cleansing solutions directly onto the touch screen.
Basics Entering text Use the on-screen keyboard to enter text. Configuring keyboard settings To configure various settings for the keyboard, tap settings and select options. Handwriting Tap → Handwriting, and then write a word in the on-screen text input field.

The selected text is copied to the clipboard. Touch and hold where the text is to be inserted and tap Paste. To paste text that you have previously copied, tap and select the text.

The left and right buttons of the touchpad act the same as the left and right buttons of a mouse. • Use the touchpad only with fingers. The touchpad will not recognize actions of other objects. • Images and the touchpad layout may differ depending on the model.
Basics Gesture functions Right-clicking This function enables right-clicking. Swiping To right-click an item, press the right touchpad button. To scroll up, down, left or right to a desired location, swipe with two fingers on the touchpad. Click or Dragging To move an icon or an app to a desired location, press and hold it and then drag it to the target position with the left touchpad button pressed. Pinching To zoom in, spread two fingers apart while viewing a website, map, or image.
Basics Configuring touchpad gestures Touchpad lock Configure touchpad gestures to use the touchpad more efficiently. Press and hold the Fn key and press the F5 key to lock the touchpad. Select the Start button ( ) → Settings → Bluetooth & devices → Touchpad and select the desired options. Some options in the touchpad settings may not be available depending on the model.
Basics 2 SIM or USIM card tray Be careful to not hurt your fingertip while pulling out the tray. Insert the SIM or USIM card (nano-SIM card). • Use only a nano-SIM card (sold separately). • Use caution not to lose or let others use the SIM or USIM card. Samsung is not responsible for any damages or inconveniences caused by lost or stolen cards. • It is only for data network. The calling feature is not supported.
Basics Cellular data Turning the cellular data on You can insert the SIM or USIM card or activate the eSIM so you can access the internet using your cellular data connection. Differing from a physical nano-SIM card, an eSIM is an embedded digital SIM. If the cellular data is not activated, select Select the status icons on the taskbar to ensure that the cellular data is activated. . Cellular data will be connected. You may incur additional charges when using a mobile network.
Basics Turning the cellular data off To save battery power, turn off the cellular data when not in use. Select the status icons on the taskbar and select . Cellular data will be disconnected.
Basics Wireless LAN Connecting to a Wi-Fi network Connect the computer to a wireless network to use the internet. 1 The descriptions below are for computer models with a Wireless LAN card or device. A Wireless LAN device is optional. The pictures in this manual may differ from the actual product depending on the wireless LAN device model. Select the status icons on the taskbar and select Wi-Fi option.
Basics 2 Deactivating the Wi-Fi feature Select a network from the list of detected wireless networks and select Connect automatically → Connect. When you are not using the Wi-Fi feature, turn it off to save battery power. Select the status icons on the taskbar and select . The Wi-Fi feature is deactivated. 2 3 Enter a password, if necessary, and select Next. Once the computer has been connected to a wireless network, it will attempt to connect to it automatically when it is available.
Basics Bluetooth Pairing with other Bluetooth devices Use Bluetooth to listen to music or exchange data or media files with other Bluetooth-enabled devices. 1 • Samsung is not responsible for the loss, interception, or misuse of data sent or received through Bluetooth. • Always ensure that you share and receive data with devices that are trusted and properly secured. If there are obstacles between the devices, the operating distance may be reduced.
Basics 3 Unpairing Bluetooth devices Select Bluetooth to select a device you want to add and finish pairing. 1 Select the Start button ( devices. ) → Settings → Bluetooth & Your computer will display the paired devices. 2 On the device you want to unpair from your computer, select → Remove device → Yes. The connection to the Bluetooth device will be disconnected.

The fingerprint will be removed. Unlocking the screen with a fingerprint You can unlock the screen by resting your fingerprint on the fingerprint recognition sensor.
Basics For better fingerprint recognition • Prevent the fingerprint recognition sensor from being scratched or damaged by metal objects, such as coins, keys, and necklaces. • Ensure that the fingerprint recognition sensor and your fingers are clean and dry. • The fingerprint recognition sensor may not recognize fingerprints that are affected by wrinkles or scars. • The fingerprint recognition sensor may not recognize fingerprints from small or thin fingers.
Basics Memory card slot Inserting a memory card Use a memory card to transfer data to other devices. You can use data stored on your device, such as digital cameras, phones, or tablets, on your computer, or you can take your saved data to another device. 1 Insert a memory card into the memory card slot in the indicated direction until it clicks into place. Memory cards are sold separately. This computer supports the following types of memory cards.
Basics 3 Removing a memory card When you push the card, it clicks and disengages from the memory card slot. Grasp the end of the card and pull it out of the slot. Select Start. • To use a memory card to exchange data with a digital device, such as a digital camera, formatting the data with the digital device is recommended. • When trying to use a formatted memory card in another digital device, format the memory card again in the device.
Basics External display Connecting to a display Connecting the computer to an external display device can be useful for presentations or when watching a movie. The cables and adapters required to connect an external display are sold separately. The computer supports USB Type-C display cables. 1 2 Connect the cable to the USB Type-C port of the computer. Connect the other end of the cable to the external display.

Apps and features Samsung Account Finding your ID and resetting your password If you forget your Samsung account ID or password, select Find ID or Forgot password? on the Samsung account sign-in screen. You can find your ID or reset your password after you enter the required information. Your Samsung account is an integrated account service that allows you to use a variety of Samsung services provided by computers, mobile devices, TVs, and the Samsung website.

When charging/discharging the battery repeatedly for a short time only, the battery usage time may be reduced by the difference between the actual battery charge and the remaining charge display. You can make the actual battery charge and the remaining charge display the same by discharging the battery completely using the Battery Calibration function, and then recharging it again.
Settings & Upgrade Battery Fully charge the battery using the supplied adapter before using the computer for the first time. • Use only Samsung-approved adapters, batteries, and cables. Unapproved adapters or cables can cause the battery to explode or damage the computer. • Incorrectly connecting the adapter may cause serious damage to the computer. • This computer is equipped with an internal battery. The battery is not user-serviceable or userreplaceable.

Do not allow the adapter to make contact with your skin for a long time. A low-temperature burn may result. Usage notices Ergonomic tips Maintaining proper posture during computer use is very important to prevent physical injury. Improper or prolonged keyboard use may result in repetitive strain injury. Viewing the monitor screen for extended periods of time may result in eye strain. Therefore, please follow these guidelines carefully when setting up and using the computer. The upper arm and forearm should form an angle that is slightly greater than a right angle, with the wrist and hand in almost a straight line. • Use a light touch when typing or using the touchpad and keep the hands and fingers relaxed. Avoid rolling the thumbs under your palms or supporting the wrists on the desk while typing.

Excessive exposure to loud sounds can cause hearing damage. • Always turn the volume down before plugging the earphones into an audio source and use only the minimum volume setting necessary to hear your conversation or music. • Position the screen at least 50 cm away from your eyes.
Usage notices Operating conditions • Take at least a 10 minute break every hour. • Avoid using the computer in dark locations. Use the computer with as much ambient light as you would when reading a book. • Indirect illumination is recommended. Use a curtain to prevent reflections and glare on the screen. • While operating a computer and talking on a phone, use a headset. Using the computer while holding a phone on your shoulder or with your neck may lead to muscle strain or injury.

Some of the content may not be applicable to your computer. Handle the power cord with care. • • Since this is commonly applied to Samsung computers, some pictures may differ from actual products.
Usage notices Use only properly earthed electric sockets or extension cords. Battery usage related Unearthed electric sockets or extension cords may cause electric shock. Any connection to unearthed electric sockets or extension cords may produce an electric field from a current leak. Use manufacturer-approved batteries, adapters, accessories, and supplies. If water or other substances enter the product, disconnect the power cord and contact a Samsung Service Center.

Do not use the computer on heated floors or electric pads, or on beds, blankets, or cushions that block the ventilation of the computer. Dispose of worn-out batteries properly. • There is a danger of fire or explosion. • The battery disposal method may differ depending on your country and region. Dispose of the used battery in an appropriate way.

For notebook computers that are supplied with an optional removable battery, disconnect the battery. Caution Failure to follow instructions marked with this symbol may result in minor physical injury or damage to the computer. Failure to do so may result in electric shock or fire. Installation related Keep the computer away from water or liquid.
Usage notices Usage related Do not place or use the computer on slanted or vibrating surfaces. Do not use the pen for unintended purposes, such as poking the body, like eyes or ears, and do not put it in your mouth. Failure to do so may result in computer malfunction or damage. Doing so may result in physical injury. Do not place heavy objects on the product. Do not place a candle, lit cigar, etc., over or on the product. This may cause a problem with the computer.
Usage notices Close the display panel only after checking if the notebook computer is turned off. Do not store your device near or in heaters, microwaves, hot cooking equipment, or high pressure containers. The temperature may rise and it may cause deformation of the product. Do not drop or hit the computer against anything. • The battery may leak. • Your device may overheat and cause a fire. Do not insert your fingers into the ports (holes), card slot, or vents.
Usage notices Do not use your computer in a hospital or on an aircraft that can be interfered with by radio frequency. Do not use the product if it is cracked or broken. Broken glass or acrylic could cause injury to your hands and face. Take the device to a Samsung Service Center to have it repaired. When using wireless communication (LAN, Bluetooth, etc.) always follow applicable instructions. For example, airlines and hospitals have strict requirements. Avoid exposing a drive to magnetic fields.
Usage notices Upgrade Related Shut down the computer and disconnect all cables before disassembling the computer. For notebook computers that are supplied with an optional removable battery, disconnect the battery. Do not attempt to upgrade the computer, unless you are qualified. Otherwise, contact a Samsung Service Center or an authorized technician. Failure to do so may cause electric shock.
Usage notices Storage and movement related Cautions on preventing data loss (storage device (such as HDD, SSD, eMMC) management) Do not store the computer in an enclosed space, such as a computer bag, while it is running. Take care not to damage the data on a storage device (such as HDD, SSD, eMMC). Failure to do so may result in fire. Completely shut down the computer before putting the computer into an enclosed space. • Subjecting the device to physical impacts may result in data loss.
Usage notices Display bad pixels Samsung observes strict specifications regarding the quality and reliability of the display. However, there is a small chance that a few pixels may be bad. A large number of bad pixels can cause problems with the display, but a small number of bad pixels does not generally affect computer performance.

Appendix Important safety information Setting up the system • Read and follow all instructions marked on the product and in the documentation before operating the system. Retain all safety and operating instructions for future use. • Do not use this product near water or a heat source such as a radiator. • Set up the system on a stable work surface. • The product should be operated only with the type of power source indicated on the rating label.
Appendix • Care during use Ensure that the fan vents at the bottom of the casing are clear at all times. Do not place the computer on a soft surface, doing so will block the bottom vents. • When using an extension cord with this system, make sure that the total power rating on the products plugged into the extension cord does not exceed the extension cord power rating.

Appendix Replacement parts and accessories Battery disposal Do not put rechargeable batteries or products powered by non-removable rechargeable batteries in the garbage. Use only replacement parts and accessories recommended by manufacturer. Contact the Samsung Service Center for information on how to dispose of batteries that you cannot use or recharge any longer. Follow all local regulations when disposing of old batteries. To reduce the risk of fire, use only No.
Appendix Laser safety All systems equipped with CD or DVD drives comply with the appropriate safety standards, including IEC 60825-1. The laser devices in these components are classified as “Class 1 Laser Products” under a US Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) Radiation Performance Standard. Should the unit ever need servicing, contact an authorized service location.
Appendix Power cord requirements General requirements The power cord set (all plugs, cable and adapter plugs) you received with your computer meets the requirements for use in the country where you purchased your equipment. The requirements listed below are applicable to all countries: Power cord sets for use in other countries must meet the requirements of the country where you use the computer.
Appendix Regulatory compliance statements The RF field strength of the wireless device or devices that may be embedded in the notebook are well below all international RF exposure limits as known at this time. Because the wireless devices (which may be embedded into the notebook) emit less energy than is allowed in radio frequency safety standards and recommendations, manufacturer believes these devices are safe for use.
