Installation Instructions

Preparatory Notes
The illustration shows a Model 4276 pedestal drop box installed on a
4285 pedestal. Installation is the same for the 4275 and 4277.
Installation should be performed by an experienced contractor. It is
advisable to have the unit on hand before beginning construction of
the concrete base.
Constructing Concrete Base
Prepare a concrete pad at least 4 feet square (for 1 pedestal drop
box) by a minimum 6” depth. Concrete pad dimensions for multiple
pedestal drop boxes should be proportionally larger. The bottom
hole for the concrete footing should be filled with about 6” of gravel to
promote drainage under the pedestal. The top of the footing should
be sloped for water runoff. The concrete must be below the frost
line. Otherwise the pedestal will move when the ground freezes. Be
careful not to puncture water, sewer or gas lines when digging holes
for footing. The concrete pad should include reinforcing steel and
four 1/2”-13 anchor bolts protruding at least 1” above the concrete
surface for each box. Place the anchor bolts in a 4” by 10” pattern in
the concrete to align with the holes in the pedestal base.
Installing Pedestal On Concrete Base
When the concrete has cured sufficiently, install the four leveling nuts
on the anchor bolts. Set the pedestal (4285) on the leveling nuts with
the four anchor bolts protruding through the holes in the pedestal
base plate. Adjust the leveling nuts to square up the pedestal.
Install the remaining four nuts and washers on the anchor bolts and
tighten securely.
Installing Drop Box on Pedestal
Open the master doors at the rear of the drop box and install two of
the 5/16” carriage bolts in diagonally opposed mounting holes. Close
and latch the doors, and lift the unit onto the pedestal, allowing the
two bolts to align with and protrude through two holes in the top of
the pedestal. Install two of the washers and nuts and tighten by hand
to secure the unit to the pedestal.
Reopen the master doors and install the two remaining carriage
bolts, washers and nuts. Tighten all nuts securely.
