But we do not rule out the possibility of a situation that occurs during actual use for
some reason
When your USB flash drives or other removable disks are not showing the original
size, you may wonder how it happens or where the lost capacity disappears.
Generally speaking, there are various reasons that will mistakenly display the actual
disk space of a flash drive or an external disk. For example:
1.The flash drive has more than one partition on it. Windows will only recognize the first
partition.
2. There is a hidden recovery partition or unallocated space that does not show up in the PC.
3 The 64GB or 128GB USB flash drive is formatted with an improper file system (FAT32) in
Windows.
4. Some viruses did damage to the disk or the card reader/host devices are not well suited for
some types of memory cards.
How to Use DiskPart to Clean a Drive
There are 2 stages:
1. Cleaning the Drive
2. Partitioning and formatting
First, launch the command prompt as Admin. In Windows 10 and 8, you can just
right-click the Windows icon or you can press Windows Key + X and select
Command Prompt (Admin).
If you are using Windows 7, you have to search for Command Prompt by typing the
same in the search box. Now, right-click on the shortcut Command Prompt and select
Run as Administrator.
To use diskpart to clean the drive, make sure the USB drive, SD card or any other
memory card that you want to clean is connected to your computer.
