BEFORE YOU BEGIN Thank you for selecting the new PROFORM® DESK BIKE exercise bike. Cycling is an effective exercise for increasing cardiovascular fitness, building endurance, and toning the body. The DESK BIKE exercise bike provides a selection of features designed to make your workouts at home more effective and enjoyable. reading this manual, please see the front cover of this manual. To help us assist you, note the product model number and serial number before contacting us.
PART IDENTIFICATION CHART Use the drawings below to identify the small parts needed for assembly. The number in parentheses below each drawing is the key number of the part. The number following the key number is the quantity needed for assembly. Note: If a part is not in the hardware kit, check to see if it has been preassembled. Extra parts may be included.
ASSEMBLY • To hire an authorized service technician to assemble this product, call 1-800-445-2480. • In addition to the included tool(s), assembly requires the following tool(s): • Assembly requires two persons. one Phillips screwdriver • Place all parts in a cleared area and remove the packing materials. Do not dispose of the packing materials until you finish all assembly steps. one adjustable wrench Assembly may be easier if you have a set of wrenches.

Attach the Front Stabilizer (7) to the Seat Frame (2) with two M8 x 50mm Carriage Bolts (13), two M8 Curved Washers (14), and two M8 Acorn Nuts (15) (only one Curved Washer and one Acorn Nut are shown). 3 15 14 2 7 13 4. Orient the Backrest Frame (27) and the Seat Handlebar (30) as shown. 4 22 Attach the Backrest Frame (27) to the Seat Handlebar (30) with two M8 x 45mm Bolts (22), two M8 Washers (17), and two M8 Locknuts (16). 17 27 30 16 5.

Orient the Seat Post (4) and the Backrest Frame (27) as shown. 6 Attach the Seat Post (4) to the Backrest Frame (27) with two M8 x 50mm Carriage Bolts (13), two M8 Washers (17), and two M8 Locknuts (16). 16 4 17 13 27 7. Insert the Seat Post (4) into the Seat Frame (2). 7 Next, insert the Seat Knob (12) into the Seat Frame (2) and into one of the adjustment holes in the Seat Post (4); make sure that the Seat Knob is in one of the adjustment holes in the Seat Post. Then, tighten the Seat Knob.
9. Attach the Water Bottle Holder (18) to the Backrest Frame (27) with two M4 x 10mm Screws (19). 9 18 27 19 10. Attach the Handlebar (6) to the Handlebar Frame (1) with two M8 x 35mm Screws (21), two M8 Split Washers (20), and two M8 Curved Washers (14). 10 21 6 20 14 1 11. The Console (8) requires two AA batteries (not included); alkaline batteries are recommended. Do not use old and new batteries together or alkaline, standard, and rechargeable batteries together.
12. Have a second person hold the Console (8) near the Handlebar Frame (1). Connect the wires on the Console to the Reed Switch Wire (23) and the Monitor Wire (24). 12 Avoid pinching the wires Tip: Avoid pinching the wires. Slide the Console (8) onto the console mount on the Handlebar Frame (1). 8 23 13. Identify the Right Pedal (11). 1 24 13 Using an adjustable wrench, firmly tighten the Right Pedal (11) clockwise into the Right Crank Arm (25).
15. Press the Handlebar Clamps (9) on the underside of the Desk Tray (10) onto the Handlebar (6) in the locations shown; press on the two upper Handlebar Clamps first, and then press on the two lower Handlebar Clamps. 15 10 9 9 6 16. After the exercise bike is assembled, inspect it to make sure that it is assembled correctly and that it functions properly. Make sure that all parts are properly tightened before you use the exercise bike. Extra parts may be included.
HOW TO USE THE EXERCISE BIKE HOW TO USE THE DESK TRAY HOW TO ADJUST THE SEAT POST To attach the desk tray to the handlebar, press the handlebar clamps on the underside of the desk tray onto the handlebar in the locations shown; press on the two upper handlebar clamps first, and then press on the two lower handlebar clamps. For effective exercise, the seat should be at the proper height. As you pedal, there should be a slight bend in your knees when the pedals are in the lowest position.
FEATURES OF THE CONSOLE Pulse (PUL)—This mode displays your heart rate in beats per minute when you are using the heart rate monitor (see step 3 on page 15). When your pulse is not detected, a P will appear in the display. The easy-to-use console features six modes that provide instant exercise feedback during your workouts. The modes are described below. HOW TO USE THE CONSOLE Make sure that there are batteries (not included) in the console (see assembly step 11 on page 10).
3. Measure your heart rate, if desired. If your heart rate is not shown, make sure that the pulse mode is displayed. In addition, make sure that your hands are positioned as described and that you are not moving your hands excessively or squeezing the contacts tightly. For optimal performance, periodically clean the contacts using a soft cloth; never use alcohol, abrasives, or chemicals to clean the contacts.
MAINTENANCE AND TROUBLESHOOTING MAINTENANCE HOW TO ADJUST THE REED SWITCH Regular maintenance is important for optimal performance and to reduce wear. Inspect and properly tighten all parts each time the exercise bike is used. Replace any worn parts immediately. If the console does not display correct feedback, the reed switch should be adjusted. Before adjusting the reed switch, turn the resistance knob to the lowest setting.

EXERCISE GUIDELINES Burning Fat—To burn fat effectively, you must exercise at a low intensity level for a sustained period of time. During the first few minutes of exercise, your body uses carbohydrate calories for energy. Only after the first few minutes of exercise does your body begin to use stored fat calories for energy. If your goal is to burn fat, adjust the intensity of your exercise until your heart rate is near the lowest number in your training zone.
SUGGESTED STRETCHES The correct form for several basic stretches is shown at the right. Move slowly as you stretch; never bounce. 1. Toe Touch Stretch 1 Stand with your knees bent slightly and slowly bend forward from your hips. Allow your back and shoulders to relax as you reach down toward your toes as far as possible. Hold for 15 counts, then relax. Repeat 3 times. Stretches: Hamstrings, back of knees and back. 2. Hamstring Stretch Sit with one leg extended.
