BEFORE YOU BEGIN Thank you for selecting the revolutionary PROFORM¨ 590QS treadmill. The 590QS treadmill combines advanced technology with innovative design to help you get the most from your exercise program in the convenience and privacy of your home. And when youÕre not exercising, the unique 590QS can be folded up, requiring less than half the floor space of other treadmills. Monday through Saturday, 7 a.m. until 7 p.m. Central Time (excluding holidays).
ASSEMBLY Assembly requires two people. Set the treadmill in a cleared area and remove all packing materials. Do not dispose of the packing materials until assembly is completed. Assembly requires the included allen wrench and your own phillips screwdriver . Note: The underside of the treadmill walking belt is coated with high-performance lubricant. During shipping, a small amount of lubricant may be transferred to the top of the walking belt or the shipping carton.
3. Slide the upper end of a Handrail (85) into the right Upright (82) as shown. Note: It will be necessary to pivot the Handrail to the side and back repeatedly (see arrow A) while pushing on the Handrail (see arrow B) to slide it fully into the Upright. OPERATION AND ADJUSTMENT THE PERFORMANT LUBETM WALKING BELT This product is for use on a nominal 120-volt circuit, and has a grounding plug that looks like the plug illustrated in drawing 1 below. A temporary adapter that looks like the adapter illustrated in drawing 2 may be used to connect the surge suppressor to a 2-pole receptacle as shown in drawing 2 if a properly grounded outlet is not available. Your treadmill features a walking belt coated with PERFORMANT LUBETM, a high-performance lubricant.
CONSOLE DIAGRAM Incline Display LED Track Note: If there is a thin sheet of clear plastic on the face of the console, remove it. Displays Manual/i-Fit.com Indicators Clip Key your home stereo, portable stereo, or computer, and play special i-Fit.com CD's (not included). These CDÕs interactively control the speed and incline of the treadmill while a personal trainer coaches you through each step of your workout. High-energy music provides added motivation.
STEP-BY-STEP CONSOLE OPERATION begin walking. As you exercise, change the speed of the walking belt as desired by pressing the SPEED buttons. Before operating the console, make sure that the On on/off switch near the Position power cord is in the on position. Next, make sure that the key is removed from the console and the power cord is properly plugged in (see HOW TO PLUG IN THE POWER CORD on page 8). To stop the walking belt, press the START/STOP button. The TIME/MIN-MILE display will begin to flash.
TIME/MIN-MILE displayÑThis display shows the elapsed time and your current pace (pace is measured in minutes per mile). Your pace will be shown for three seconds each time the speed is adjusted. 6 Measure your pulse, if desired. Stand on the Metal Contacts foot rails and place your hands on the metal contacts on the pulse bar. Your palms must be resting on the upper contacts, and your fingers must be touching the lower contactsÑ avoid moving your hands.
To use i-Fit.com videos, you must connect the treadmill to your VCR or TV. To do this, follow steps A to C below. Plug one end of the included audio cable into the jack near the treadmill power cord. Make sure that the audio cable is fully plugged in and that it is not wrapped around the power cord. 2 Note: If the speed or incline of your treadmill does not change when a ÒchirpÓ is heard, make sure that the i-Fit.com indicator is lit and the TIME/MIN-MILE display is not flashing. Next, adjust the volume of your CD player or VCR. If the volume is too high or too low, the console may not detect the signals from your CD player or VCR. In addition, make sure that the audio cable is properly connected and fully plugged in. Press the PROGRAM button.
THE INFORMATION MODE IMPORTANT: The CALS./ FAT CALS./PULSE display should be blank. If a ÒdÓ appears in the display, the console is in the ÒdemoÓ mode. This mode is intended to be used only when a treadmill is displayed in a store. When the console is in the demo mode, the power cord can be plugged in, the key can be removed from the console, and the displays and indicators on the console will automatically light in a preset sequence, although the buttons on the console will not operate.
HOW TO FOLD AND MOVE THE TREADMILL HOW TO FOLD THE TREADMILL FOR STORAGE 1 Before folding the treadmill, adjust the incline to the lowest position. If this is not done, the treadmill may be permanently damaged. Next, unplug the power cord. PROBLEM: The walking belt slows when walked on SOLUTION: a. Use only a UL-listed surge protector, rated at 15 amps, with a 14-gauge cord of five feet or less in length. b. If the walking belt is overtightened, treadmill performance may decrease and the walking belt may become damaged. Remove the key and UNPLUG THE POWER CORD. Using the allen wrench, turn both rear roller adjustment bolts counterclockwise, 1/4 of a turn.
CONDITIONING GUIDELINES uses easily accessible carbohydrate calories for energy. Only after the first few minutes does your body begin to use stored fat calories for energy. If your goal is to burn fat, adjust the speed and incline of the treadmill until your heart rate is near the lowest number in your training zone.
