VC60AW
Outdoor Volume Control
When deciding where the volume control will be mounted onto
the wall, consider the various ways it will be used. The primary
listening area and the ease of running the wire to your chosen
location are the important things to keep in mind. The most com-
mon locations for outdoor volume controls are on the wall or
on a PVC stub-out at ground level. If you do not understand any
part of these instructions, please contact your Proficient dealer.
Improper wiring could cause damage to your audio system.
Do not put the volume control into the same box as a 110V AC
circuit. (i.e. light switch, electrical outlet, etc.). Speaker wires
can act as an “antenna” for electrical noise. Locating speaker wires
too close to a light switch or dimmer may cause a buzzing or pop-
ping sound to be heard through the speakers. If you must locate
the VC60AW near electrical devices, use a separate electrical box.
VOLUME CONTROL PLACEMENT
NOTE: The rotary switch is shipped with the control turned as
far counterclockwise as it will turn (off). If you have changed this,
return it to the full counterclockwise position before starting
installation.
1. Run the ¾" PVC conduit and speaker wires appropriate for your
outdoor application, using a PVC junction box or a T-coupling for
the speaker and amplifier connections. Proficient recommends
running the wires from the amplifier to the junction box, and
then branching the wires out to the VC60AW and speakers. In the
alternative, you may simply use T-couplings on the PVC conduit
as needed.
2. Attach the speaker wires to the VC60AW using crimps, crimp
caps, or by soldering. Proficient highly recommends using heat
shrink crimps to keep out moisture and to reduce corrosion.
3. Since the wiring will be sealed inside the conduit, be sure to
test all of your connections by activating the amplifier and
toning the speakers.
4. Once the speakers are connected, put the wiring back into the
conduit and seal the conduit with silicone.
5. Use PVC adhesive to attach the VC60AW to the conduit.
DO NOT
spill the adhesive onto the VC60AW, as it may mar
the finish. Proficient highly recommends applying a bead of
silicone at the conduit seam for maximum weatherproofing.
6. To wall mount the VC60AW, simply use four screws and wall
anchors, if applicable.
CAUTION: If the input and output connections are reversed,
the minimum setting on the volume control would present a
short across the amplifier or receiver output terminals. This may
seriously damage your amplifier or receiver. Please double check
steps 1 - 6. This volume control cannot be connected in series
with another volume control.

OWNER’S MANUAL
The VC60AW is a 60 watt outdoor surface-mount rotary volume control, which connects
between a pair of speakers and the speaker level output of an amplifier, receiver or speaker
selector. It offers real convenience for the homeowner, since adjustments can be made
the moment the listener enters the outdoor listening area. A Multi-Room system uses one
VC60AW volume control, hard-wired as a “home run” or off the master speaker-wire line for
each pair of speakers.
Featuring stainless steel hardware and a PVC enclosure, the VC60AW can be mounted
onto ¾" PVC conduit, and may be used either fastened onto a wall or freestanding.
