[Guidelines for the Hardw are Installation] Please observe the following guidelines when you are installing the wireless PCI Express adapter to the Desktop PC: Avoid placing the PC close to obstacles Obst ruct ions such as concret e and t hick w alls limit radio signal penet rat ion and reduce t he t hroughput and t he coverage range of t he w ireless PCI Express adapt er.
2. Installation Procedure Note: If you have installed the W ireless Adapter driver & utility before, please uninstall the old version first. STEP1: Found New Hardware W izard is displayed aft er t he adapt er is inst alled and t he comput er is rest art ed. Please click Cancel t o cont inue. STEP2: Insert Inst allat ion CD int o CDͲROM drive t hen w indow s below w ill appear. Click Install Driver t o begin device driver inst allat ion.
STEP3: Please read t he follow ing license agreement . Use t he scroll bar t o view t he rest of t his agreement . Select I accept the terms of the license agreement and click Next t o cont inue. STEP4: Select t he set up t ype t hat best suit s your needs. Click Next t o cont inue.
In W indow s XP, t here is a W indows Zero Configuration Tool for you t o set up w ireless adapt er. You can choose t o configure t he adapt er t hrough t he M icrosoft Zero Configuration Tool or t he Ralink Configuration Tool. It is recommended t o choose t he Ralink Configuration Tool for t he adapt er. Click Next t o cont inue.
STEP5: Click Install t o begin t he inst allat ion. STEP6: Please w ait for a w hile during t he adapt er is configuring your new soft w are inst allat ion.
STEP7: Aft er t he set up w izard has successfully inst alled w ireless LAN, click Finish t o exit t he w izard. To check if t he adapt er is properly inst alled, you can right Ͳclick Computer Æ choose Properties Æ click Device M anager. The Configurat ion Ut ilit y appears as an icon on t he syst em t ray of Window s w hile t he adapt er is running. You can open t he ut ilit y by doubleͲclick on t he icon.

When act ivat ing WZC, t here are couple different on RaUI st at us compare t o t he w it hout WZC running: (1) Profile but t on w ill be gray, profile funct ion is removed since t he NIC is cont rolled by WZC. (2) The connect and add profile funct ion w ill be gray. The reason is same as t he first difference. 3.

3.3 W ireless Utility Ͳ RaUI When st art ing RaUI, syst em w ill connect t o t he AP wit h best signal st rengt h w it hout set t ing profile or mat ching profile set t ing. It w ill issue a scan command t o w ireless NIC. Aft er t w o seconds, t he AP list w ill updat ed w it h t he result of BSS list scan.

W PS Profile List: Display all of credent ials got from t he Regist rar. List informat ion includes SSID, M AC address, Aut hent icat ion and Encrypt ion Type. If STA Enrollee, credent ials are creat ed as soon as each WPS success. If STA Regist rar, RaUI creat es a new credent ial w it h WPA2ͲPSK/ AES/ 64HexͲKey and doesn’t change unt il next sw it ching t o STA Regist rar.

3.3.11 Enable AP M ode Feature in W indows 2000 OS In Window s 2000 Operat ion Syst em, t he local net w ork w on’t be aut omat ically est ablished w hile using Wireless PCI adapt er’s AP mode. Please follow t he below st eps t o enable Int ernet Connect ion Sharing feat ure first before you sw it ch Wireless PCI adapt er’s AP mode.
Step 3: Back t o Net w ork and Dial Ͳup Connect ion screen, right Ͳclick “ Local Area Connection 2 ” (for 802.11n Wireless LAN card) and choose “ Properties” . Step 4: Select “ Internet Protocol (TCP/ IP) ” and click “ Properties” . You w ill see 802.11n Wireless PCI adapt er w ill be aut omat ically assigned an IP address as Access Point . Step 5: In t he Syst em t ray, now you can sw it ch 802.11n Wireless PCI Adapt er t o AP M ode.
Step 6: Aft er sw it ch t o AP mode, Ralink Wireless Ut ilit y w ill aut omat ically pup Ͳup. The Wireless Default SSID is assigned as “ SoftAPͲ56 ” . Step 7: To make sure your Soft AP is w orking properly, you need t o use anot her comput er which w it h Wireless LAN feat ure t o access Soft APͲ56 AP. In t he below example, use anot her PC wit h Wireless feat ure in Vist a Operat ion Syst em.
Step 8: Select t he net w ork “ SoftAPͲ56 ” and click “ Connect ” t o est ablish t he connect ion. Step 9: Aft er t he comput er is successful connect ed t o Soft APͲ56, Net w ork and Sharing Cent er screen w ill be show n as below . Click “ View Status” t o see t he det ail.
Step 10: In General t ab, click “ Detail…” , and t hen you can see t he current Net w ork connect ion det ails.
