Special cautions for CD player This unit contains a semiconductor laser system and is classified as a “CLASS 1 LASER PRODUCT”. So, to use this model properly, read this Instruction Manual carefully. In case of any trouble, please contact the store where you purchased the unit. To prevent being exposed to the laser beam, do not try to open the enclosure. Precautions 1. Warranty Claim You can find the serial number on the rear panel. In case of warranty claim, please report this number. 2. System connections Connecting the Onkyo Separate Collection Series (Refer to the illustration on the following page.) LINE IN jack This jack can be used to connect a BS tuner, CS-PCM tuner, DAT deck or any other audio or video components with an analog audio output. Connect the output of the other component to this jack. However, a turntable should not be connected to these jacks.
System connections Connecting the CR-185X to the K-185X and MD-185X ● ● ● ● ● ● Do not plug in the power cord until all connections have been made. For each pair of connectors, the connector marked R corresponds to the right channel, and the connector marked L to the left channel. Refer to the instruction manual of each component when making connections. Do not place the MD recorder or cassette deck on top of the CR-185X. Fully insert all plugs.
System connections Connecting the FM indoor antenna The FM indoor antenna is for indoor use only. Move the antenna in various directions until the clearest signal is received. Fix it with push pins in the position with the least distortion. ANTENNA FM 75Ω Connecting the FM outdoor antenna If clear signals cannot be received using only the enclosed FM indoor antenna, connect an outdoor FM antenna as needed. ANTENNA FM 75Ω This adapter is only supplied with models other than the European model.

Setting the Time and Day (for remote control only) • The time display flashes when you plug the power cord into an AC outlet. The time will flash until you set the clock. • The clock is displayed in 24 hours. Operating the Amplifier Listening to your favorite source 1 3 1. Select the source you wish to listen to using the input selector (e.g. CD). Also check that the MUTING indicator is not lit. 2. Start playing the selected input source. Follow the operating instructions for that unit. If FM is selected, refer to “Listening to the radio”. 3. Adjust the level. Turn the VOLUME knob clockwise or press the UP button on the remote control to increase the volume level.
Operating the Amplifier Adjusting the tone and balance (remote control only) Adjusting the bass: TONE UP/DOWN 1. Press the TONE button repeatedly until “BAS” is displayed. 2. Press the π or † button to adjust the bass. The bass can be adjusted from –10 to +10. • The previous display will appear after the adjustment is finished. Adjusting the treble: TONE UP/DOWN 1. Handling CDs Important notes on handling CDs 1 2 1. Carefully lift the disc from the disc case, making sure to hold the disc by its edges or the hole in the middle. 2. A dry, soft cloth may be used to wipe dust and fingerprints off the surface of CDs. Do not use volatile agents on discs, such as thinner or benzine. Also, do not use conventional record cleaner or antistatic agents. • Do not place a CD in direct sunlight or locations subject to high humidity or low temperature.
Troubleshooting Guide If the system does not work properly, please refer to this table for troubleshooting hints. If there is no improvement in the condition, even after troubleshooting, or symptoms other than those listed exist, please disconnect your unit from the wall outlet and contact your ONKYO authorized service station. • Please make sure that the system has been connected properly, otherwise it cannot operate correctly.
