SUBJECT: Special Service Tool – RAD Spindle Puller 61-30-0080
RAD Spindle Puller - 61-30-0080 is designed to easily pull / remove the Spindle Shaft and Gearing from the
aluminum housing of a Right Angle Drive Head Assembly (RAD).
The shaft of the Spindle Puller has 1/2” X 20 UNC internal threads that screw onto the external 1/2” x 20 UNC
threads of the RAD spindle once the 3-jaw keyed chuck has been removed. Remove the parts listed below in order
shown prior to using Spindle Puller Kit.
Left-Hand Thread Chuck Retaining Screw
3-Jaw Keyed Chuck
*
Spindle Shaft Assembly Retaining Rings
After removing above components loosen Puller
Hex Nut (counterclockwise) enough to allow the
Round Female End of the Shaft to be threaded
onto the 1/2” x 20 UNC threads of the spindle
shaft. With the puller shaft threaded all the way
down onto the threads of the spindle hold the
Square End of the Puller Shaft
with 9/16” open end
wrench and turn the 3/4”-10 UNC Hex Nut in a
clockwise direction until the entire Spindle & Gear
Assembly is removed from the Right Angle Drive
Head.
Any portion of the aluminum casting of RAD housing at or above the
internal retaining ring groove / slot of the housing has been dented /
driven inward toward the ball bearing(s) must be filed or trimmed away
from the outside race of the ball bearing(s) prior to using the Spindle
Puller - failure to remove any material that has been driven inward toward
the spindle shaft can cause cracking / breaking of the aluminum RAD
housing as the spindle assembly is pulled out of the housing.
Removing the 3-jaw Keyed Chuck from the spindle shaft of a RAD Head can be difficult. Special Service
Fixtures listed below used in conjunction with the RAD Puller can and will speed up the repair of the RAD Head.
* Chuck Removal Fixture 61-20-0040 is a two [2] piece fixture. The fixture when placed around the hex of
the output spindle shaft opposite the three jaw chuck and secured tight between the jaws of a
machinist vise will allow a technician to easily hold the RAD Head stationary while removing or
installing a 3-Jaw Keyed or Keyless Chuck.
* Chuck Removal Tool 61-10-0660 when used in conjunction with Chuck Removal Jig 61-20-0040 will help
speed up the repair of a RAD Head. This fixture allows a technician to easily remove and reinstall / seat a
3-Jaw Keyed chuck to the output spindle shaft on a Right Angle Drive (RAD) Head
