They contain important information on installation, safety, use and maintenance.
Warning and Safety instructions ~ The appliance is not suitable for storing and keeping cool medicines, blood plasma, laboratory preparations or other such materials or products. Incorrect use of the appliance for such purposes can cause deterioration of the items stored. The appliance is also not suitable for use in areas susceptible to explosion. Miele cannot be held liable for any damage resulting from incorrect or improper use or operation.
Warning and Safety instructions ~ Danger of suffocation. Packaging, e.g. cling film, polystyrene and plastic wrappings, must be kept out of the reach of babies and children. Whilst playing, children could become entangled in packaging or pull it over their head and suffocate. Technical safety ~ The coolant system is tested for leaks. The appliance complies with the relevant safety requirements and the appropriate EU guidelines.
Warning and Safety instructions ~ The more coolant there is in an appliance, the larger the room it should be installed in. In the event of a leakage, if the appliance is in a small room, there is the danger of combustible gases building up. For every 8 g of coolant at least 1 m3 of room space is required. The amount of coolant in the appliance is stated on the data plate inside the appliance.
Warning and Safety instructions ~ A damaged appliance can be dangerous. Check the appliance for visible signs of damage. Do not use a damaged appliance. ~ For safety reasons, this appliance may only be used when it has been built in. ~ The appliance must be disconnected from the mains electricity supply during installation, maintenance and repair work. Ensure that power is not supplied to the appliance until after it has been installed or until after any maintenance or repair work has been carried out.
Warning and Safety instructions Correct use ~ The appliance is designed for use within certain climate ranges (ambient temperatures), and should not be used outside this range. The climate range of the appliance is stated on the data plate inside the appliance. Installing it in a room with too low an ambient temperature will lead to the appliance switching off for longer periods so that it cannot maintain the required temperature.
Warning and Safety instructions ~ Never handle frozen food or the metal parts of the appliance with wet hands. Your hands may freeze to the frozen food or metal parts. Danger of frost burn. ~ Do not take ice cubes out with your bare hands and never place ice cubes or ice lollies in your mouth straight from the freezer. The very low temperature of the frozen ice or lollies can cause frostburn to the lips or tongue. ~ Do not refreeze partially or fully defrosted food.
Warning and Safety instructions ~ Do not use sharp edged objects to – remove frost and ice, – lift frozen food or remove ice trays. They will damage the evaporator, causing irreversible damage to the appliance. ~ Never place electric heaters or candles in the appliance to defrost it. These can damage the plastic parts. ~ Do not use defrosting sprays or de-icers, as they might contain substances which could damage the plastic parts or which could cause a build-up of gases and pose a danger to health.

Only open the doors when necessary and for as short a time as possible. Store food in an organised way. Frequent opening of the door for long periods will cause a loss of coldness. The appliance works harder to cool down and the compressor runs for longer periods.
Switching on and off Before using for the first time Switching off Cleaning ^ Press the On/Off button until the temperature display goes out. ^ Clean the inside of the appliance and the accessories with lukewarm water and a little washing-up liquid, and then dry with a soft cloth. All the indicators will go out and the cooling system will switch off. Switching on Switching off for longer periods of time If the appliance is not going to be used for a longer period of time, e.g.
The correct temperature It is very important to set the correct temperature for storing food in the appliance. Micro-organisms will cause food which is not stored at the correct temperature to deteriorate rapidly. Temperature influences the growth rate of these micro-organisms. Reducing the temperature reduces their growth rate. To freeze fresh food and to store frozen food for a long time, a temperature of -18 °C is required. At this temperature the growth of micro-organisms is generally halted.
The correct temperature Temperature display The temperature display on the control panel always shows the required temperature. The temperature can be adjusted from: -15 °C to -32 °C The temperature display will flash if – the temperature in the appliance is not within the possible temperature range, – a different temperature is being set, – the temperature in the appliance has risen by several degrees, indicating that the appliance is warming up too much.
Alarm Your appliance has been fitted with a warning system which ensures that the temperature in the freezer cannot rise unnoticed and to avoid energy being wasted if the door is left open. Switching the alarm off early If the noise disturbs you, you can switch the alarm off early if you wish. Activating the alarm system The alarm system is always active. It does not have to be switched on manually.
Super freeze Switch the Super freeze function on before putting fresh food into the freezer. This helps food to freeze quickly and retain its nutrients, vitamins, flavour and appearance. Super freeze is not necessary: – when putting in food that is already frozen. – when freezing up to 2 kg fresh food daily. Switching on Super freeze When freezing small quantities of food in the freezer, the Super freeze function should be switched on 6 hours beforehand.
Freezing and storing food Maximum freezing capacity Storing frozen food To ensure that fresh food placed in the freezer freezes through to the core as quickly as possible, the maximum freezing capacity must not be exceeded. The maximum freezing capacity for freezing within a 24-hour period is given on the data plate: "Freezing capacity ....kg/24 hrs".
Freezing and storing food Home freezing Only freeze fresh food which is in a good condition. Hints on home freezing – The following types of food are suitable for freezing: Fresh meat, poultry, game, fish, vegetables, herbs, fresh fruit, dairy products, pastry, leftovers, egg yolks, egg whites and a range of pre-cooked meals. – The following types of food are not suitable for freezing: Grapes, lettuce, radishes, sour cream, mayonnaise, eggs in their shells, onions, whole raw apples and pears.
Freezing and storing food Before placing food in the freezer ^ When freezing more than 2 kg of fresh food, switch on the Super freeze function some time before placing the food in the freezer (see "Super freeze"). This helps food that is already in the freezer to stay frozen. Placing food in the freezer The following maximum capacities must be observed: – freezer drawer = 25 kg – glass cold plate = 35 kg Food to be frozen must on no account touch food which is already frozen to avoid partial thawing.
Freezing and storing food Defrosting Frozen food can be defrosted in different ways: – in a microwave oven, – in an oven using the "Fan" or "Defrost" setting, Never re-freeze partially or fully defrosted food. Consume defrosted food as soon as possible as it will lose its nutritional value and spoil if left for too long. Defrosted food may only be re-frozen after it has been cooked.
Defrosting In normal use, ice and frost will form in the freezer e.g. on the internal walls. How much ice and frost accumulates in the appliance will depend on the following factors: – The appliance door has been opened frequently or left open for a while. – A large quantity of fresh food has been placed in the freezer at once. – There has been an increase in the humidity in the room.
Defrosting To defrost Carry out the defrosting procedure as quickly as possible if food has not been placed in another freezer. The longer the food is left out at room temperature, the faster it defrosts. Do not use a steam-cleaning appliance to aid the defrosting process. Steam could reach electrical components and cause a short circuit. Never place electric heaters or candles etc. inside the appliance to defrost it. They will damage plastic parts.
Cleaning and care Before cleaning Make sure that water cannot get into the electronic unit or into the ventilation gaps. ^ Switch the appliance off. Do not use steam cleaning apparatus to clean the appliance. Steam could reach electrical components and cause a short circuit. ^ Take any frozen food out of the appliance and store it in a cool place. The data plate located inside the appliance must not be removed. It contains information which is required in the event of a service call.
Cleaning and care Ventilation gaps ^ The ventilation gaps should be cleaned regularly with a brush or vacuum cleaner. A build-up of dust will increase the energy consumption of the appliance. Door seal Do not use any oils or grease on the door seal as these will cause the seal to deteriorate and become porous over time. The door seal should be cleaned regularly with clean water, and then wiped dry with a soft cloth. After cleaning ^ Close the door.
Problem solving guide Repairs to electrical appliances should only be carried out by a suitably qualified and competent person in strict accordance with current local and national safety regulations. Repairs and other work by unqualified persons could be dangerous. The manufacturer cannot be held liable for unauthorised work. . . . the door will not open because it has been opened and closed too many times in succession. This is not a fault.
Problem solving guide . . . food has frozen together. Use a blunt instrument, e.g. a spoon handle or plastic scraper, to prise it apart carefully. . . . there is a thick layer of ice in the freezer. ^ Check whether the door closes properly. ^ Defrost and then clean the freezer. Too thick a layer of ice reduces efficiency and increases energy consumption. . . . the alarm sounds and the alarm indicator light flashes.
Noises Normal noises What causes them Brrrrr... Humming noise made by the motor (compressor). This noise can get louder for brief periods when the motor is switching on. Blubb, blubb.... A gurgling noise can be heard when coolant is circulating through the pipes. Click.... Clicking sounds are made when the thermostat switches the motor on and off. Sssrrrrr.... On multi-zone and frost-free appliances you can sometimes just hear the movement of air circulating inside the appliance. Creak ...

Information for dealers Demo mode To deactivate Demo mode The appliance can be demonstrated in the showroom or at exhibitions in "Demo mode". In this mode the controls and interior lighting are functioning but the compressor remains switched off. ^ Press the On/Off button. To activate Demo mode ^ Press the On/Off button. The appliance is now switched on. ^ Press the On/Off button and the Temperature button at the same time for approx. 5 seconds.
Electrical connection Electrical connection U.K. All electrical work should be carried out by a suitably qualified and competent person in strict accordance with current local and national safety regulations (BS 7671 in the UK). The appliance is supplied with a mains cable and moulded plug ready for connection to an a.c. single phase 220-240 V 50 Hz supply. Please ensure that the connection data quoted on the data plate match the household mains supply.
Installation Do not place any appliance which gives off heat, such as toaster, mini-oven or double-burner hob on top of this appliance There is the danger of these catching fire. Side-by-side installation The left side of this appliance has side wall heating making it suitable for installing next to a refrigerator. Each appliance must be built-under into a separate niche. The freezer must be installed on the right-hand side of the refrigerator.
Installation Ventilation Before installing the appliance Air at the back of the appliance gets warm. It is very important for the cooling system of the appliance to have adequate ventilation. ^ Remove any cable clips from the back of the appliance. Ventilation into and out of the appliance is through the appliance plinth. The plinth must not be covered or blocked in any way. The cross-sectional area for ventilation in the plinth must be dusted on a regular basis.
Building-in dimensions Plinth height B depends on the building under height: With a niche height of 820 mm the plinth height is 100 - 170 mm. The plinth height will be dictated by the height of the furniture front. With a building under height of 870 mm the plinth height is 150 - 220 mm. In this case, the plinth height may be dictated by the adjustable feet under the appliance as well as the height of the furniture front.
Adjusting the door hinges The door hinges are set ex-works to enable the doors to be opened wide. However, if the opening angle of the door needs to be limited for any reason, the hinges can be adjusted to accommodate this. For example, if the appliance door hits an adjacent wall when opened, the opening angle can be limited to 90°. ^ Place the locking pins supplied for limiting the door opening into the hinges from above. The door opening angle is now limited to 90°.
Changing the door hinging Appliance door Do not change the door hinging if this appliance is to be installed "side-by-side" with another appliance. Each appliance must be built-under into a separate niche and the freezer must be installed on the right-hand side of the refrigerator. ^ Open the door. Before building the appliance in, you will need to decide on which side the door is to be hinged. If left-hand door hinging is required, follow the instructions below.
Changing the door hinging If you have put locking pins into the hinges to stop the door opening too far: ^ Stand the appliance door up, and loosen the hinges at the front (the hinges remain open). ^ Remove the locking pins from the top of the hinges. To remove the soft-close mechanism ^ Place the door with the outer side downwards on a stable surface. Warning. The soft-close mechanism snaps shut when dismantled. Danger of injury. ^ Remove screws a, and use stoppers supplied c to plug the empty holes.
Changing the door hinging To secure the soft-close mechanism ^ Place the door with the outer side downwards on a stable surface. ^ Screw ball joint d of soft-close mechanism c into the new fixing holes. ^ Refit the door onto the pre-fitted screws, and then tighten the screws. ^ Replace covers a, b and c. ^ Screw mounting b onto the hinge and tighten securely. ^ Open out soft-close mechanism c and hook it onto ball joint d.
Building in the appliance Weight of the furniture door Before fitting a furniture door, ensure that the weight of the door does not exceed the maximum permitted: Appliance Maximum weight of furniture door in kg F 9122 Ui-2 20 Fitting a door front which is heavier than the maximum permitted could damage the hinges. To install the appliance you will need the following tools: Positioning the appliance Before pushing the appliance into the niche loosen the two rear feet by a half turn.
Building in the appliance ^ Push the appliance into its building-under niche. ^ Align the appliance so that the front edges of the hinges at the top and bottom are flush with the front edge of the housing unit side wall. This will create a gap all round of 42 mm to the front edges of the housing unit side walls. On furniture with door fittings (e.g. stubs, seals etc) the dimension of these must be taken into account when making sure there is a gap all round of 42 mm.
Building in the appliance Aligning the appliance ^ Hold the plinth facing at the side and pull it forwards and off. With a building-under height of 820 mm the adjustable feet must not be extended. With a building-under height of more than 820 mm the feet must be extended. For example, with a building-under height of 870 mm, the feet must be extended by approx. 50 mm. ^ Adjust the feet according to the height of the niche and make sure the appliance is level. ^ Use an allen key to unscrew both front feet.
Building in the appliance The ventilation gaps must not be covered over. Securing the appliance in the niche A fitting kit for securing the appliance at the sides when building it under a granite worktop is available from Miele.
Building in the appliance Fitting a furniture door Ensure that the plinth facing is replaced correctly. Warning. The soft-close mechanism snaps shut when dismantled. Danger of injury. ^ A gap of 8 mm must be maintained between the appliance door and the fixing bracket. ^ Unscrew mounting b and pull soft-close mechanism c downwards to remove it.
Building in the appliance ^ Using a pencil, lightly mark a line down the centre of the inside of the furniture door. ^ Hang the fixing bracket with fitting aids a onto the inside of the furniture door. Align the fixing bracket centrally. ^ Attach the fixing bracket securely using at least 6 short 4 x 14 mm chipboard screws b. (On cassette doors only use 4 screws on the edges). ^ Pull the fitting aids upwards to remove them c. ^ Hang the furniture door onto adjusting bolts a.
Building in the appliance ^ Whilst counterholding adjusting bolts b with a screwdriver, tighten nuts a at the top of the appliance door. ^ Attach the appliance door and the furniture door using screws through fixing brackets a: – Drill holes in the furniture door (mark the position of the holes first). – Screw in the short 4 x 14 mm chipboard screws b. ^ Align depth "Z" on the furniture door: Loosen the screws in the long slots at the top c and bottom d of the appliance door.
Building in the appliance ^ Screw mounting b onto the hinge and tighten securely. ^ Open out soft-close mechanism c and hook it onto ball joint d. ^ Place the cover in position. To make sure the appliance is correctly fitted: – The door must close properly. – The door must not touch the furniture carcase. – The seal at the top edge of the handle side must fit properly. To double check, place a torch in the appliance and close the door. Turn the lights out in the room.
