PHYSICAL SPECS
DESCRIPTION AND OPERATION
The MEW-OS200W Occupancy sensor is designed to replace a standard light or fan
switch. It is ideal for high mounted areas such as warehouses, stores and high ceiling
applications.
Sensor Operation
The sensor’s relay is shipped in a closed position that turns the load on
upon initial power-up. The connected load will stay on for about
80 seconds to allow the PIR sensor to initialize.
Initial Power Up (80 Seconds Warm up)
The sensor detects changes in the infrared energy given off by occupants as
they move within the coverage area. When occupancy is detected, a self-
contained relay switches the connected load on. The sensor is line powered
and can pass-thru the line voltage (Refer to Max Load for limitation). An internal
timer automatically turn off the load after a selectable period of inactivity.
Coverage Area
• Designed for 15 to 30 ft (4.57m to 9.1m) mounting heights.
• 15 to 20 ft (4.57 to 6.1 m) radial coverage overlaps area lit by a typical
high bay fixture (Refer to Fig1)
INSTALLATION & WIRING
WARNING
Disconnect power to the mounting box by turning OFF the circuit
breaker or removing the fuse for the circuit before installing the
MEW-OS200W, replacing Lamps, or doing any electrical work.
CAUTION FOR YOUR SAFETY:IF YOU ARE NOT SURE ABOUT ANY PART
OF THESE INSTRUCTIONS. PLEASE CONSULT A QUALIFIED ELECTRICIAN.
Avoiding HVAC Turbulence
Heating, Ventilating or Air Conditioning (HVAC) can create turbulence which
can cause the sensor to activate. It is important that the sensor and HVAC
register be separated by at least 6'.
If the sensor's location gives it a view of other rooms or hallways, the
load will turn on when movement is detected in these adjacent areas. The
sensor's detection zone may be restricted by masking a portion of the lens.
The Sensor's field-of-view may be partially obstructed by the Luminaire’s
housing at higher mounting heights (Refer to Fig.2A). To take advantage of
the complete coverage area, make certain that the sensor is mounted
within 1" from the bottom of the luminaire (Refer to Fig.2B).
Sensor Installation
1.Remove the lock-nut from the sensor’s threaded pipe.
2.Insert the threaded pipe into a half inch hole (from a luminaire or an
electrical junction box).
3.Slide the lock-nut over the wires and fasten clockwise on to the threaded
pipe to secure the sensor firmly in place. Make sure the lens is oriented
towards the area to be monitored (Fig.3A).
3.Connect the wires per Wiring Diagram: BLACK lead to LINE(HOT),
RED lead to LOAD, WHITE lead to NEUTRAL. Twist the existing wires
together with the wire leads of the MEW-OS200W sensor as shown below.
Cap them securely using the wire nuts provided.(refer to Fig.3B)
4.Restore power at circuit breaker or fuse box.
Sensor replacement
1.Press the two side buttons inward simultaneously, and extract out the main
part of sensor switch, (Fig.4A and Fig.4B).
2. Extract the replacement sensor from its threaded pipe as explained in part 1
3. Plug the replacement sensor into the old base
SENSOR ADJUSTMENT & PROGRAMMING
Timeout Knob
The “TIME” knob sets the ON time of the load after inactivity. The
time is reloaded after each detection.
Turn the adjustment knob fully counter clockwise to the minimum
setting (Marked 1 (TEST)) to have a short delay time and
test the sensor. The delay for TEST mode is 15 seconds. You can select
your preferred setting by adjusting the knob to the desired time (5, 10,
20 or 30 Minutes)
Sensitivity Knob
The “SENSE” knob sets the sensitivity of the occupancy detection.
This knob is adjustable from 50% (Position 1) to 100% (Position 5)
Turning the knob clockwise will increase the sensitivity while turning
it counter-clockwise will decrease it. Maximum sensitivity is achieved
by turning the knob fully clockwise to Position 5
Ambient Light Level Knob
The “LIGHT” knob sets the threshold of the ambient light necessary to
activate the load. Your load will only turn on if the natural lighting in the
room is low.
If the low lighthing feature is not desired, position the knob on the
maximum setting (Position 5). This will allow the occupancy sensor to turn
the load on regardless of the ambient lighting condition.
TROUBLESHOOTING
Load will not turn ON
• Circuit breaker or fuse is OFF: Turn the breaker ON. Ensure the lights being
controlled are in working order (i.e., working bulbs. ballasts, etc.)
• Sensor is wired incorrectly or may be defective: Confirm that the sensor's
wiring is done correctly and inspect visually for problems.
• Lens is dirty or obstructed: Inspect the lens visually and clean if necessary,
or remove the obstruction.
Load will not turn OFF
Make sure no motion is occurring in the coverage area during the 15 sec.
time delay (in “TEST” Timeout). Sensor is wired incorrectly or may be
defective: Confirm that the sensor's wiring is done correctly and inspect
visually for problems.
Sensor may be mounted too close to an air conditioning or heating vent:
Move the sensor or turn off the vent.
• The line voltage has dropped: Perform the necessary tests to ensure the
line voltage is not beneath 100V
Lights turn ON and OFF too quickly
• Sensor may be mounted too close to an air conditioning or heating vent:
Move the sensor to another location or turn off the vent.
• Time delay set improperly: Refer to Time delay Adjustment
