It will do the job better and with less likelihood of a risk of injury at the rate for which it was designed. Don't overreach. Keep proper footing and balance at all times. Stay Alert - Watch what you are doing. Use common sense. Do not operate appliance when you are tired. Store idle appliances indoors.

Follow all charging instructions and do not charge the battery pack or machine outside of the temperature range specified in the instructions. Charging improperly or at temperatures outside of the specified range may damage the battery and increase the risk of fire.
19. 20. 21. 22. 23. Take a rest to prevent loss of control caused by fatigue. We recommend to take a 10 to 20-minute rest every hour. Hold the power tool by insulated gripping surfaces only, because the cutting attachment may contact hidden wiring. Cutting attachments contacting a “live” wire may make exposed metal parts of the power tool “live” and could give the operator an electric shock. Do not use the tool on steep slopes.

Use the batteries only with the products specified by Makita. Installing the batteries to non-compliant products may result in a fire, excessive heat, explosion, or leak of electrolyte. If the tool is not used for a long period of time, the battery must be removed from the tool.
Installing the loop handle Installing the wire guard Attach the loop handle to the tool by securing it with a hex bolt and the thumb nut as shown in the figure. Hex bolt Fig.7 To reduce the risk of damaging the objects in front of the cutting head, attach the wire guard to the motor housing so that it controls the cutting range. The angle of loop handle is adjustable.
Attaching the shoulder harness FUNCTIONAL DESCRIPTION CAUTION: Be sure to attach the hook of shoulder harness to the tool securely. If the hook is attached incompletely, it may come off and cause an injury. WARNING: Always be sure that the tool is switched off and the battery cartridge is removed before adjusting or checking function on the tool. Failure to switch off and remove the battery cartridge may result in serious personal injury from accidental start-up.
Battery protection system The tool is equipped with a battery protection system. This system automatically cuts off power to the motor to extend battery life. The tool will automatically stop during operation if the tool and/ or battery are placed under one of the following conditions: Overloaded: The tool is operated in a manner that causes it to draw an abnormally high current. In this situation, turn the tool off and stop the application that caused the tool to become overloaded.
The indication lamp blinks or lights up when the battery becomes low or the tool is overloaded. Refer to the following table for the status and action to be taken. To adjust the shaft length, open the lock lever, then adjust the length of the shaft, and then close the lock lever. NOTICE: Use the grass trimmer without get- ting the nylon cutting head into a contact with the ground surface. Using the nylon cutting head contacting the ground surface may cause the motor under overload resulting in damage to the grass trimmer. 2 1 Fig.18 ► 1 . Lock lever 2. Shaft Adjust the position of the loop handle so that you can hold the loop handle when lowering your left hand.
NOTICE: Do not use the trimmer as if you dig out the ground. Using the grass trimmer as an edger Using the grass trimmer as an edger is suitable for cutting the grass growing along the bricks or blocks. Open the lock lever, then extend the shaft to the maximum length, then rotate the motor housing 180°, and then close the lock lever. Detaching the shoulder harness Storage When storing the tool, raise the wire guard, shorten the shaft, and then fold the loop handle. WARNING: Be extremely careful to maintain control of the machine when detaching the shoulder harness. 1 The shoulder harness features a means of quick release. Replacing the nylon cord WARNING: Use nylon cord with diameter specified in “SPECIFICATIONS” only. Never use heavier line, metal wire, rope or the like. Use recommended nylon cord only, otherwise it may cause damage to the tool and result in serious personal injury. WARNING: Make sure that the cover of the nylon cutting head is secured to the housing properly as described below. Failure to properly secure the cover may cause the nylon cutting head to fly apart resulting in serious personal injury.

TROUBLESHOOTING Before asking for repairs, conduct your own inspection first. If you find a problem that is not explained in the manual, do not attempt to dismantle the tool. Instead, ask Makita Authorized Service Centers, always using Makita replacement parts for repairs. State of abnormality Probable cause (malfunction) Remedy Motor does not run. Consejos para alargar al máximo la vida útil de la batería Cargue el cartucho de batería antes de que se descargue completamente. Pare siempre la operación y cargue el cartucho de batería cuando note menos potencia en la herramienta. No cargue nunca un cartucho de batería que esté completamente cargado. La sobrecarga acortará la vida de servicio de la batería. Cargue el cartucho de batería a una temperatura ambiente de 10 °C - 40 °C (50 °F - 104 °F).

El cabezal de corte de nailon cuenta con un mecanismo de golpe y alimentación. Para alimentar el cordón de nailon, golpee el cabezal de corte contra el suelo mientras la herramienta esté girando. Mientras el cordón de nailon se está alimentando, éste será cortado automáticamente a la longitud adecuada por el cortador. Ajuste la longitud del eje y el ángulo de corte, de modo que el cabezal de corte de nailon quede plano al suelo cuando sostenga el mango con la mano derecha.
Corte de pasto AVISO: No utilice el cortador como si fuera a Sostenga el cortador de pasto con ambas manos, y mueva el cortador de pasto de derecha a izquierda lentamente. Nunca use una línea más pesada, alambre de metal, cuerda o similares.

RESOLUCIÓN DE PROBLEMAS Antes de solicitar alguna reparación, primero realice una inspección por su cuenta. Si detecta algún problema que no esté explicado en el manual, no intente desensamblar la herramienta. En vez de esto, solicite la reparación a un centro de servicio autorizado de Makita, usando siempre piezas de repuesto Makita.
