Allow adequate ventilation around the adapter when using it to operate the device or charging the battery. Do not cover the AC adapter with paper or other objects that will reduce cooling. Magellan CrossoverGPS Reference Manual It is not necessary to read this entire document to begin using the Magellan CrossoverGPS. Most users will find that they can use the Magellan CrossoverGPS straight out of the box and just refer to this manual on those rare occasions when a little help on a feature is required. Magellan CrossoverGPS Power The Magellan CrossoverGPS uses a touchscreen display for all user inputs.
Magellan CrossoverGPS Right Side View Power - Press and hold to turn the power on or off. USB Connection - (under protective cover) Used for connecting to a personal computer to upgrade the firmware or to upload music files, photos and custom POIs. Headphone Connector - (under protective cover) Please check local laws for use of headphones while driving. External Power Input - (under protective cover) Connects power to the Magellan CrossoverGPS from a cigarette lighter adapter or an approved AC adapter.
Magellan CrossoverGPS Application Menu Screen The Application Menu is the first screen displayed after you go through the initial setup and is the starting point for all of the Magellan CrossoverGPS built-in applications. You can access this menu by selecting the Exit icon found on the main menu of each application. Application Menu Allows you to access the Vehicle Navigation application.
Accessing the Application Menu The Application Menu can be accessed from any of the applications by tapping the Exit icon found on the main menu of each application. Example: the Marine Navigation Menu with the Exit button outlined. Please note that the System Settings menu does not display an Exit button. To access the Application Menu from System Settings, press the ‘X’ in the upper right-hand corner.
Magellan CrossoverGPS Vehicle Navigation Screens Map Screen in Car/Motorcycle mode The Map Screen is the most commonly used screen on the Magellan CrossoverGPS. 8 9 10 11 12 13 Time to Next Manoeuvre Displays the calculated time to your next manoeuvre. Menu Button Next Manoeuvre Street Name Selecting this button toggles the field between time to next manoeuvre and remaining distance of the trip. When selected, brings up the main Vehicle Navigation menu. Displays the name of the street for the next manoeuvre. When selected, displays the manoeuvre list screen. Mute Selecting this button will mute the speaker.
Main Menu Screens The Main Menu has two modes: active route and normal. When a route is active the Main Menu provides functions that pertain to the route. With no active route, the Main Menu provides access to functions that are used to create a route. Application Menu Accesses the Application Menu for additional applications and system settings. Active Trip Button Functional only when travelling on a multi-destination trip. Provides access to tools to modify the trip you are on.

Enhanced POIs Used to access personal POIs created with the Magellan PC Tools and Premium POIs. Trip Computer Accesses the trip computer feature providing information about the trip that can be saved. Trip Planner Used to create a multi-destination trip that can be routed to or saved.
Creating Routes Overview Creating a route involves selecting a destination and choosing how you would like the route calculated. Once this is done, the Magellan CrossoverGPS will calculate the route using the guidelines you provide and displays the Map screen with information guiding you to your destination.
Choosing the Route Preference If you selected Car/Motorcycle as your Navigation method. Select from one of the available options: Shortest Time, Shortest Distance, Least Use of Freeways or Most use of Freeways. Route button Once you have selected your Navigation Mode and Route Method (Car/Motorcycle only), tick the Avoid Toll Roads option if you want your route to be calculated avoiding toll roads and then select the Route button to calculate your route.
Creating a route to a street address 1. From the Main Menu, select Street Address. 2. Select Search By Town, Search by Postcode or Previous Towns. 3. Input the information as requested depending upon your selection in step 2. If using Search By Town: Spell the name of the town and select from the town list, spell the name of the street and select from the available street list, then enter the address number for the street.
Creating a route using POIs POIs (points of interest) have been preloaded into the Magellan CrossoverGPS for commonly used categories such as hotels, restaurants, petrol stations, etc. Following the steps provided you will be able to create a route to any of these destinations. Creating a route to a POI by name 1. From the Main Menu, select POI-Points of Interest. 2. Select the POI category and, if displayed, the subcategory. 3. Select Spell Name. 4. Spell out the POI name.
5. A list of POIs for the selected category and nearest to the criteria you chose in step 4 wil be presented. Select the POI you wish to route to. 6. Once the POI has been selected from the available list, select the navigation method and route preference to be used to calculate the route. This is a sample list of POIs that meet the set criteria. The address and phone number is displayed to help you select the right POI.
Creating a route to go home Setting the home address 1. From the Main Menu, press on Home. 2. If you have not entered a home address previously, select Yes to enter your home address. 3. Select Search By Town, Search by Postcode or Previous Towns. 4. Input the information as requested depending upon your selection in step 3.

If using Search By Town: Spell the name of the town and select from the town list, spell the name of the street and select from the available street list, then enter the address number for the street (it must fall within the street number range displayed at the top of the screen). If using Search by Postcode: Enter the postcode for the address and select the town from the list of available towns.
Adding a previous destination to your address book 1. From the Main Menu, press on Address Book. 2. Select Previous Destinations. 3. Select the desired destination from the list of previous destinations. 4. Select Edit. 5. (Optional) Edit the name of the address by selecting the top line of the address. 6. (Optional) Select the Favourite check box to add this address to your list of favourite addresses. 7. Select Save. 8.
Editing an address in the address book 1. From the Main Menu, press on Address Book. 2. Select List Addresses. 3. Select List All or Search Address Book. If you perform a search, you will be asked to enter the first few characters in the address name. 4. Select the desired address from the list of addresses in your address book. 5. Select Edit. 6. Select the top line to change the name or the bottom line to change the address information. Use the keyboard to enter the new text. 7.
Creating a new address 1. From the Main Menu, press on Address Book. 2. Select Create New Entry. 3. Select Select on Map, Select Address, Points of Interest or Town Centre. Select Map: The Map screen is displayed. Use your finger or stylus to pan the crosshair cursor around the map. When the crosshair cursor is over the point on the map you want, press on the crosshair cursor. Select Address: Follow the instructions for selecting an address, either by town, postcode or previous towns.
Magellan CrossoverGPS Enhanced POIs Overview The Enhanced POI option provides access to personal POI files (My POI) that you can create and upload onto the Magellan CrossoverGPS SD Card and to Premium POIs such as the preloaded Marco Polo database of points of interest. My POI The Magellan CrossoverGPS allows you to use your own points of interest. You can create and edit your POI files using the Magellan PC Tools software provided on CD-Rom.
Displaying/Selecting Categories 1. Load a POI file as described in ‘Loading a My POI file’. 2. Select Display Categories. 3. Select the POI categories you want to be displayed on the map screen. Setting Alarms 1. Load a POI file as described in ‘Loading a My POI file’. 2. Select Set Alarms. 3. Select the categories you want to be alerted to when approaching. (See Setting Alert Parameters.) Setting Alert Parameters 1. Load a POI file as described in ‘Loading a My POI file’. 2.
Saving a POI to your Address Book from My POI 1. Load a POI file as described in ‘Loading a My POI file’. 2. Select Select category. 3. Select the POI category. 4. Select Nearest (closest to your present position) or Spell POI Name. 5. If you selected Nearest, select the destination from the Select POI list. If you selected Spell POI Name, enter the first few letters for the desired POI and press OK. Select the POI from the list. 6. Select Save. 7.
Selecting a Premium POI file 1. Access the Premium POI menu. 2. Select Change Premium POI. 3. Select Select a POI File. 4. Select the Marco Polo POI file from the list of Premium POI files available. Creating a Route Using a Marco Polo Premium POI 1. Access the Premium POI menu. 2. Select Select category. 3. Select the POI category. Only the sightseeing category can be accessed free of charge. Access to all other categories requires an unlock code that can be purchased from www.magellanGPS.com.
Using the Trip Planner Overview Normal routes are calculated from your present position to a single destination. It is sometimes beneficial to have a trip that routes to multiple destinations. The Trip Planner allows you to create and save multiple destination trips. Creating a multiple destination trip 1. From the Main Menu, select to go to page 2 of the Menu. 2. Select Trip Planner. 3. Select New. 4. Use the keyboard to enter a name for the trip. Select OK when done. 5.
5. A list of the individual destinations is displayed. Select the first destination on the list to activate the trip. 6. Select the routing method to calculate the trip. You can also pick which destination to begin the trip on, skipping over destinations prior to it, by selecting the first destination you want to go to. In this example, selecting ‘Kensington Palace’ will go to all four destinations in the trip.
Deleting a multiple destination trip 1. From the Main Menu, select to go to page 2 of the Menu. 2. Select Trip Planner. 3. Select Delete, Rename. 4. Select Delete. 5. Select the Trip to be deleted from the list of saved trips. 6. Confirm the deletion by pressing on Yes. Renaming a multiple destination trip 1. From the Main Menu, select 2. Select Trip Planner. 3. Select Delete, Rename. 4. Select Rename. 5. Select the Trip to be deleted from the list of saved trips. 6.
Marine Navigation The Marine application provides a basic form of navigation for marine use. Without loading any external maps (Magellan BlueNav) you can create a track, add waypoints, navigate to a saved waypoint and perform a backtrack (following your track back to your point of origin). If you have loaded any of the Magellan BlueNav charts you will have additional marine navigational information that can enhance your marine trip.
Changing Regions 1. Accesses the Marine Navigation application. (From the Map screen, tap the MENU button.) NOTE: If you have an active trip or goto you will need to cancel it before being able to select a region from the SD card. 2. Tap the Right Arrow in the bottom right-hand corner to access page 2 of the menu. 3. Select Select Region. 4. Tap Yes. 5. Select the map you want to load. Special Terminology Waypoints A waypoint is similar to an address.

Zoom out When selected, zooms out the map display. Position Icon Provides a visual indication of your current position. Icon points in the direction you are travelling North indicator Arrow points towards North. When selected, displays the Locate screen. Data field Displays navigation data selected.
Creating a Waypoint from the Map Screen 1. Tap . 2. Tap on any of the fields to edit the name, lat/lon, altitude or information. 3. Tap Favourite to include this waypoint in your Favourites list. 4. Select Save. 5. A waypoint is created and indicated by an ‘x’ on the map. Creating a Waypoint from the Compass Screen 1. Tap . 2. Tap . 3. Tap on any of the fields to edit the name, lat/lon, altitude or information. 4. Tap Favourite to include this waypoint in your Favourites list. 5.
Setting your Port 1. Tap . 2. Select Change Port. Note: If this is the first time you have accessed the Port function you will be asked to either select the port from the map or enter its latitude and longitude. 3. Select Select on Map to visually place your port on the map or Enter Lat/Lon to type in the latitude and longitude for your port. 4. Use the method selected to locate or enter the port’s position. 5. Tap on any of the fields to edit the name, lat/lon, altitude or information. 6.
Creating a Goto trip from the Marine Navigation Menu 1. Tap . 2. Select List Waypoints or Favourites. 3. If List Waypoints is selected, select List Waypoints again or use the search feature to find the desired waypoint. 4. Select the waypoint name from the list of waypoints. 5. Tap Go To. 6. The Map screen is displayed with a Goto trip line displayed. Navigate along this line to go to your destination waypoint. Creating a multiple destination trip 1. From the Marine Navigation menu, tap .
Activating a multiple destination trip 1. From the Marine Navigation menu, tap . 2. Select Guide Me. 3. Select the name of the saved trip you want to use. 4. A list of the waypoints in the trip is displayed. Select the first destination on the list to activate the trip. 5. The map is displayed and the trip is highlighted with a pink line. Track Tools 1. From the Marine Navigation menu, tap . • Select Start or Stop to turn tracking on or off. • Select Reset to clear the active track.
Bow View With an active trip you can use the Bow View to help navigate to your destination. When your destination is behind you or to your left or right, a red arrow indicates the correct direction you need to head in, in order to reach your destination. The three data fields at the bottom of the display are customisable. Tap and hold down the data field for 3 seconds. A popup menu will appear with a list of available data types. Accessing the Bow View 1. From the Marine Navigation menu, tap .
VMG to Last - the velocity made good to the last waypoint in your active trip (i.e. the speed at which you are approaching the waypoint). VMG to Next - the velocity made good to the next waypoint in your active trip (i.e. the speed at which you are approaching the waypoint). Altitude - your current altitude. Average Speed - your average speed since you started your trip. Bearing to Last - the bearing to the last waypoint in your active trip.
Outdoor Navigation The Outdoor application provides a basic form of navigation for hiking and camping. Without loading any external maps (Magellan MapSend Topo) you can create a track, add waypoints, navigate to a saved waypoint and perform a backtrack (following your track back to your point of origin). Nav Road View With an active trip you can use the Nav Road View to help navigate to your destination. Follow the road to route to your destination. The three data fields at the bottom of the display are customisable. Tap and hold down the data field for 3 seconds. A popup menu will appear with a list of available data types. Accessing the Nav Road View 1. From the Outdoor Navigation menu, tap . Select “X” in the bottom right-hand corner to exit Nav Road View.

Setting User Options Overview The Magellan CrossoverGPS can be customised to your needs. To access the User Options menu, select Options from page 2 of the Main Menu and select the option you want to change. POI Selection In POI Selection you can select which POI icons you wish to display on the Map screen Check the POI category name to select or deselect it. POIs with an “X” will be displayed on the screen. Use ‘Mark All’ or ‘Clear All’ for global selections.
Active Track Options (Marine and Outdoor use only) Track is a recording of your journey on land or water. Active Track Options sets some of the parameters for the active track. Continue Track on Application Start: You can set the track to continue from the last track point set automatically (Yes), have a new track started and the old track deleted every time you start (Reset), or set it to ask you if you want to continue the track every time you start the outdoor/marine application (Ask).
Route Preferences (Vehicle Navigation only) You can turn automatic re-routing on or off. With automatic re-routing on, the receiver will automatically recalculate the route whenever you leave the planned route. Automatic Re-Routing: When checked, automatic re-routing is on. Navigation Mode (Vehicle Navigation only) You can select whether the Car/Motorcycle or Pedestrian mode should be proposed by default when calculating a route.
Simulator Mode (Vehicle Navigation only) This option provides a way to set the Magellan CrossoverGPS into simulation mode. In simulation mode you can create a route and observe the Magellan CrossoverGPS in action as it simulates travelling along the route. Simulation: Check “Propose simulator mode when calculating a route.” to turn the simulator on. When on, you will be asked each time you create a route if you want it to be simulated.
Backup and Restore (Vehicle Navigation only) Backup and Restore will save (backup) all of your address, trips, and option settings to an SD card installed in the Magellan CrossoverGPS. You can then upload (restore) this information in the future should you lose the information or accidentally clear the addresses. Export Data/Import Data (Marine and Outdoor Navigation only) Export and Import Data brings up a menu that enables you to save or load waypoints, trips or tracks to an optional SD card.
System Settings Overview System settings provides access to a number of global settings for the Magellan CrossoverGPS. The following is a listing of the accessible settings. From the Main Menu screen, select the Application Menu icon and then the System icon. Volume A slider bar is displayed that can be selected to raise or lower the volume of alerts. Selecting the speaker icon (above the slider) will mute or unmute the speaker.
Unit of Measurement You can set distances to be displayed as Miles/Feet or Kilometres/Metres. Page 2 (tap ) Product Information Provides detailed information about the software and firmware installed in the Magellan CrossoverGPS. Also shown is the unique serial number for the receiver. Diagnosis Provides a way to diagnose the audio, touchscreen or video portions of the Magellan CrossoverGPS. Additional Items Battery Life A battery charge indicator is shown at the bottom of the display.
Magellan CrossoverGPS PC Tools Installation The Magellan CrossoverGPS Tools application enables you to create custom POIs and load them onto your Magellan CrossoverGPS. It also provides tools for uploading music files and photos onto your SD Card. Installing the Software 1. Insert the Magellan CrossoverGPS Tools PC Application CD into your PC’s CD drive. 2. The setup application will begin automatically. If it doesn’t, browse your computer’s CD drive and double-click on the setup.exe file. 3.
Magellan CrossoverGPS POI Manager The Magellan CrossoverGPS POI Manager enables you to transfer custom points of interest files from your computer to your Magellan CrossoverGPS. Before adding any custom POIs to the Magellan CrossoverGPS, you should understand how the POI Manager plots POIs.
Altitude Each location can also have an Altitude. Altitude is expressed by how far the point is above or below the level of the ocean, or Sea Level. 100m Above 80m Above 60m Above 40m Above 20m Above Sea Level 0m 20m Below 40m Below 60m Below 80m Below 100m Below Using Magellan PC Tools Turn on your Magellan CrossoverGPS by pressing and holding the Power button.
Transferring a POI File When you start the POI Manager the contents of your “My POIs” folder on your PC will be displayed. This is the default location for storing custom POI files. Locate the POI files you wish to load onto your CrossoverGPS. NOTE: only files in Magellan’s .MGLN format will be displayed in this window, all POI files in other formats must be converted to Magellan’s format before they can be loaded onto your Magellan CrossoverGPS. Use the Magellan POI Editor to convert files to .MGLN format.
NOTE: If you are copying a speedtrap file to your Magellan CrossoverGPS make sure that it is copied to the speedtraps folder on your CrossoverGPS (this is a subfolder of the POI folder). This is the folder where the preloaded speedtrap file is stored and this is where all new speedtrap files you may want to upload should also be stored. When you have finished copying files, remove the USB cable from the Magellan CrossoverGPS. Creating a New POI FIle There are two ways to create a POI file.
The Alert feature is an audible alarm that lets you know when you are within a certain distance from the POI. Distance 2 Select your preferred unit of measurement (Metres or Feet). The Detection angle sets the alert range in degrees from the POI. Importing a Data File POI files are widely available on the Internet and most of them can be easily transferred to your Magellan CrossoverGPS. The POI Manager software supports ASCII file format (.ASC,.CSV,.TXT); GPS Exchange file format (.GPS,.XML); Magellan Waypoint file format (.WPT,.RTE); and Garmin PCX5 Waypoint file format (.WPT,.RTE) but before transferring a POI file to your Magellan CrossoverGPS you must convert it to the .MGLN format (Magellan format). Magellan CrossoverGPS Music Manager The Magellan CrossoverGPS Music Manager enables you to transfer song files in MP3 or WMA format from your computer to the SD memory card installed in your Magellan CrossoverGPS. The amount of music you can load depends on the size of the memory available on your installed SD card. You can also choose to transfer your music files to a new, optional SD card but the detailed map and speed trap POIs will be unavailable. Insert the memory card into the memory card slot.
Magellan CrossoverGPS Photo Manager The Magellan CrossoverGPS Photo Manager enables you to transfer image files in multiple formats from your computer to an optional SD memory card installed in your Magellan CrossoverGPS. The number of images you can load depends on the size of the memory available on your installed SD card. You can also choose to transfer your music files to a new, optional SD card but the detailed map and speed trap POIs will be unavailable.
Music Player The Magellan CrossoverGPS Music Player enables you to play music files in MP3, or WMA format, stored on an SD memory card installed in your Magellan CrossoverGPS. If you have not already done so, you must install the Magellan CrossoverGPS Tools application and transfer files onto the card using the Magellan CrossoverGPS Music Manager. Note: You must use the Magellan CrossoverGPS PC Toolkit to load music files onto the SD Card.
Press the Stop button to stop song play. Once a song has been stopped, pressing the Play/Pause button will start the song from the beginning. Multiple Song Play Multiple song play enables you to create a “playlist”. A playlist consists of one or more songs in a group that can be played continuously. Select Playlist The Playlist menu will appear. To exit the playlist menu, select ESC. Play To hear a previously created playlist, select Play. Use the Up or Down arrow to select the desired playlist. Select OK.
Use the arrow buttons on the left side of the screen to highlight the song files you wish to add to the playlist. Select Add to Playlist (right arrow) to add the highlighted song to the playlist. Continue adding files to the playlist. When you have finished, select OK. Delete To remove a playlist, select Delete. Select the playlist you wish to delete and select OK. A dialogue box will appear asking you to confirm your selection. Select Yes to delete the playlist.
Equaliser The Equaliser provides advanced sound options so you can customise the quality of the playback. The equaliser will only be available for MP3 format sound files. Select an equaliser preset from the following pre-configured options: Default (flat), Jazz, Classical, Rock, Techno, Dance Hall, Live, Full Bass, Full Treble, and Full Bass & Treble. You are not however able to manually set the equaliser. Select the Equaliser .
Photo Viewer The Magellan CrossoverGPS Photo Viewer enables you to view image files in JPG and BMP format, stored on an SD memory card installed in your Magellan CrossoverGPS. If you have not already done so, you must install the Magellan CrossoverGPS Tools application and transfer files onto the card using the Magellan CrossoverGPS Photo Manager. Select the Application MENU button on the Magellan CrossoverGPS. . Select the Photo Viewer The Photo Viewer screen will appear.
Zoom Press the Zoom button to reduce or enlarge the current photo. The top of the zoom menu shows the current zoom level. Select another zoom level from the list of presets. Select Best Fit to adjust the zoom to fit within the display boundaries; select Actual Size to display the image at 100%; select 25% to 150% to reduce or enlarge the image to the preset level. Slideshow Press the Slideshow button to browse through all the photos in the Pictures folder automatically.
Manage Photos List View Press List view to show the files in a hierarchical list view. Thumbnail Press Thumbnail to show the files as thumbnails. Rename To change the name of the selected file or folder, press Rename. Use the backspace key (<-) to erase the name; and the keypad to enter a new name for your file.
