General safety guidelines Always observe the following precautions to reduce the risk of injury and property damage. Service Do not attempt to service a product yourself unless instructed to do so by the Customer Support Center. Use only a service provider who is approved to repair your particular product. Note: Some parts can be upgraded or replaced by the customer. These parts are referred to as Customer Replaceable Units, or CRUs.
Do not bend or modify the plug. If the plug is damaged, contact the manufacturer to obtain a replacement. Some products are equipped with a three-pronged plug. This plug fits only into a grounded electrical outlet. This is a safety feature. Do not defeat this safety feature by trying to insert it into a non-grounded outlet. If you cannot insert the plug into the outlet, contact an electrician for an approved outlet adapter or to replace the outlet with one that enables this safety feature.
CD and DVD drive safety CD and DVD drives spin discs at a high speed. If a CD or DVD is cracked or otherwise physically damaged, it is possible for the disc to break apart or even shatter when the CD drive is in use.

Chapter 1. Product Description The M500 projector can be used for both business presentations and home entertainment and is easy to connect, use, and maintain. Some main features of this projector are: v Extremely powerful, lightweight, and portable at 1.1 kg (2.5 lbs). v Sharp and clear images with a high contrast ratio of 2000:1. v Bright, high quality images with 1700 lumens and XGA native resolution. v Beautiful reproduction of high-quality images from PC and AV sources.

Note: The remote control can only interface with a computer when the projector is connected to the computer through a USB cable connection. The computer cable connects a computer to the projector for display purposes only. Remote control operating range The remote control uses infrared transmission to control the projector. It is not necessary to point the remote directly at the projector.
Projector and remote control buttons The projector can be operated using the remote control or the buttons on the top of the projector. All operations can be carried out with the remote control; however the buttons on the projector are limited in use. The following illustration shows the corresponding buttons on the remote control and on the projector. Chapter 2. Setup and Operation This chapter provides information on positioning the projector, connecting a computer source, using the projector with Microsoft Windows, and displaying and adjusting a computer source image. Attention: Only use AAA alkaline batteries. Dispose of used batteries according to local ordinance regulations. Remove the batteries when not using the projector for prolonged periods.
Connecting input devices Attention: Be sure to disconnect all power to the projector and connecting devices before making connections. A PC or notebook computer as well as video devices can be connected to the projector at the same time. Video devices include DVD, VCD, and VHS players, as well as movie camcorders and digital still cameras. Check the user manual of the connecting device to confirm it has the appropriate output connector.
Starting and shutting down the projector 1. Connect the power cord to the projector. Connect the other end to a wall outlet. This turns on the POWER and READY LEDs on the projector. 2. Turn on the connected devices. 3. Ensure that the Ready LED is on a steady (not flashing) orange and then press the Power button to turn on the projector. The projector splash screen displays and connected devices are detected.
Setting access passwords (security lock) You can use the cursor (arrow) buttons on the remote to set a password and prevent unauthorized use of the projector. When enabled, the password must be entered after you power on the projector. (See “Navigating the OSD” on page 3-1 and “Setting the OSD language” on page 3-3 for help on using OSD menus. Attention: Keep the password in a safe place. Without the password, you will not be able to use the projector.
5. Press the left or right cursor button to select Enable (green text is selected). A password dialog box appears. 6. You can use the cursor buttons numbered 1, 2, 3, and 4 on the remote to enter the password. You can use any combination including the same number multiple times, but the password must be four characters. After entering the password a second time to confirm it, OK displays. Chapter 2.
7. Every time you start the projector a password dialog box appears. Enter the password set in step 6. Press Menu to cancel if you enter the wrong password. Adjusting the projected image position Take note of the following when setting up the projector: v The projector table or stand should be level and sturdy. v Position the projector so that it is perpendicular to the screen. v Be sure cables are not in the way or can cause the projector to be knocked over. Chapter 3. On-screen display (OSD) menu settings This section provides information on the On-screen display (OSD) menu settings. OSD menu controls The projector has an OSD that lets you make image adjustments and change various settings. Note: You must have a display on the screen in order to access the OSD. Navigating the OSD You can use the remote control cursor buttons or the buttons on the top of the projector to navigate and make changes to the OSD.
Note: Depending on the video source not all items in the OSD are available. For example, the Horizontal or Vertical Position items in the Properties menu can only be modified when connected to a PC. Items that are not available are grayed out and cannot be accessed.
Setting the OSD language You may want to reference the OSD on your projector while reading this section. Set the OSD language to your preference before continuing. The default language is English. 1. Press the menu button to open the OSD menu. 2. Press the left or right cursor button until Language is highlighted. 3. Press the up or down cursor button to highlight the desired language. 4. Press the cursor right cursor button or Enter to confirm the language. 5. Press Menu twice to close the OSD.

Item Description Default User color This feature adjusts the color balance in each color (red, green, blue, cyan, 80 magenta, yellow and white by using color correction adjustment. Increasing a color’s setting heightens the intensity of that color on the screen, while a lower setting makes the color less intense. Press the up or down cursor button to select a color. Press the left or right cursor button to adjust the selected color (range: 0 100).

Appendix A. Maintenance This chapter provides information on projector maintenance. Replacing the projection lamp The projection lamp should be replaced when it burns out. It should only be replaced with a certified replacement part, which you can order from your local dealer. Attention: This product contains a metal arc lamp, which contains a small amount of mercury. Dispose of it as required by local ordinances and regulations. Avoid touching the glass surface of the new lamp.
6. Reverse steps 1 to 5 to install the new lamp module. Resetting the lamp After replacing the lamp, you should reset the lamp hour counter to zero. Refer to the following: 1. Press the Menu button to open the Main menu. 2. Press the left or right cursor button to move to the Information menu. 3. Press the up or down cursor button to move down to Lamp Hour Reset.
4. Press the up or down cursor button or the Enter button. A message screen appears. 5. Using the remote, press the cursor buttons in this order: down, up, left, right. The Status menu displays the Lamp Hours reset to zero. Cleaning the projector Cleaning the projector to remove dust and grime will help ensure trouble-free operation. Attention: Be sure to turn off and unplug the projector at least an hour before cleaning. Use only a dampened cloth when cleaning.
Using the Kensington lock If you are concerned about security, attach the projector to a permanent object with the Kensington slot and a security cable. Note: Contact Lenovo for details on purchasing a suitable Kensington security cable.
Appendix B. Troubleshooting The following table provides troubleshooting information for the projector. In some cases, more than one possible solution is provided. Try the solutions in the order they are presented. When the problem is solved, you can skip the additional solutions. Common problems and solutions These guidelines provide tips to deal with problems you may encounter while using the projector. If the problem remains unsolved, contact your dealer for assistance.

Lenovo Statement of Limited Warranty LSOLW-00 05/2005 Part 1 - General Terms This Statement of Limited Warranty includes Part 1 - General Terms, Part 2 - Country-unique Terms, and Part 3 Warranty Information. The terms of Part 2 replace or modify those of Part 1. The warranties provided by Lenovo Group Limited or one of its subsidiaries (called ″Lenovo″) in this Statement of Limited Warranty apply only to Machines you purchase for your use, and not for resale.
If the Machine does not function as warranted during the warranty period, contact a Service Provider. If you do not register the Machine with Lenovo, you may be required to present proof of purchase as evidence of your entitlement to warranty service. What Lenovo Will Do to Correct Problems When you contact a Service Provider for service, you must follow the problem determination and resolution procedures that we specify.
Limitation of Liability Lenovo is responsible for loss of, or damage to, your Machine only while it is 1) in your Service Provider’s possession or 2) in transit in those cases where Lenovo is responsible for the transportation charges. Neither Lenovo nor your Service Provider are responsible for any of your confidential, proprietary or personal information contained in a Machine which you return for any reason.
