1 Get Started Phone Battery 5. Slide the back cover to the top of the phone until it is securely in place. Install the Battery To install the battery: 1. With the back of the phone facing you, press on the back cover and slide it to the bottom of the phone. T Note: Before removing the battery, make sure to power off the phone. AF Charge the Battery You must have at least a partial charge in the battery to make or receive calls. To charge the battery: 1.
You can safely recharge the battery at any time, even if it has a partial charge. Memory Card 2. Use your finger nail to press and release the memory card in the slot until it bounces outward. Install the Memory Card 3. Carefully take the memory card out of the slot. 4. Put the rubber cover back into place. T To install the memory card: 1. With the front of the phone facing you, locate the rubber memory card cover on the lower right hand side. 2. Remove the cover. 3. Insert the memory card with the metal contacts facing toward the front of the phone until it is securely in place.
– Scroll down to go to Recent Calls > All. 8. Phone speaker. 9. Right softkey selects items that appear on the lower right of the display. At the home screen, you can select Contacts. 10. Back key erases characters in text entry or returns you to the previous screen when navigating through menus. 11. End key turns the phone on and off, ends calls or browser session, and returns you to the main screen. 12. OK key selects a menu item or option. At the home screen, pressing the OK key displays the main menu.
5. QWERTY keypad. 6. Number keypad. 7. Symbol key enables you to type symbol characters or toggle between alphabets and symbols. Press the Symbol key once to change the input mode for the next character; press twice (within 2 seconds) to toggle between alphabets and symbols. 8. Shift key enables you to press once to change case mode or press twice to toggle between case modes. 9. Left softkey selects items that appear on the lower left of the display.
LED Indicator Your phone’s LED indicator displays different colors depending on the alert. Incoming call Green—blinks (not for call waiting calls). Low battery Red—blinks until you charge the phone. New message Red—blinks for the first minute or until you respond to the alert, whichever happens first. T 3. Jack for a hands-free headset (sold separately). AF Missed call In call Red—blinks for the first minute or until you respond to the alert, whichever happens first.
Screen Icons These icons may appear on your phone’s screen. The phone is operating in IS2000 (1X) digital mode. The phone has a high speed data connection. A call is in progress. The phone is in airplane mode. The phone is set to light up instead of ring. The alarm clock is set. New photo and text message. The phone is set to auto answer. New photo and voice message. The battery is fully charged. The more black bars, the greater the charge. New photo message.
Main Menu Press the OK key or select Menu when the phone is in idle state to access the main menu. Level 1 > Level 2 Menu BREW Download an application. Contacts Access these options: View All, Add New, Groups, Speed Dial List, Voice Dial List, Erase Contacts, and Contacts Count. Recent Calls Access these options: All, Incoming, Outgoing, Missed, Erase Call List, Call Timers, and Kilobyte Counter. Media Gallery Access these options: Images, Sounds, and Delete All.
Guide Conventions D R AF T In this guide, the following conventions are used when describing phone features. Select means to press the Left softkey, Right softkey or OK key to select an item seen on the display. For example, “Select Menu” tells you to physically press the left softkey to choose Menu from the display. Press means to press a phone key. For example, “Press the Send key to make a phone call” tells you to physically press the Send key on your phone.
Call Features This section describes the basic features related to calls. Power Phone Up • • To turn your phone on, press the End key and wait until the phone display lights up. To turn your phone off, press and hold the End key until the phone plays a short musical sound and turns off. Make Phone Calls You can use voice commands to call a contact from your voice dial list or to dial a phone number. For more information, see “Voice Commands” on page 78. Redial a Number 1.
2. Follow the prompts. For more information, see “Voice Commands” on page 78. Volume Control Adjust Volume during a Call Press the Volume key up or down to adjust the earpiece volume during a call. Use the Speakerphone Emergency Services Call Emergency Service You can call an emergency code even if your phone is locked or your account is restricted. When you call, your phone enters emergency mode. This enables the emergency service exclusive access to your phone to call you back, if necessary.
3 Text Entry You can enter letters, numbers, and symbols in contacts, text messages, and your banner. Text Entry Modes Enter Numbers with QWERTY Keypad From the text entry field, select Options > Numbers Only and press the number key to enter your number. The icon indicates you are in Numbers Only mode. Press the Symbol key twice quickly (within two seconds) to change modes. Press the Symbol key once to change the mode for the next character only.
Rapid Entry with QWERTY Keypad Enter Symbols with QWERTY Keypad AF D • While entering text in Normal Alpha mode, do one of the following to enter symbols displayed on your keypad: – Press and hold the Symbol key while entering the symbols. – Press the Symbol key and then the key for the symbol. While entering text in Normal Alpha mode, do the following to access the full set of symbols: a. Select Options > Add Symbol. b. Scroll up or down to view the list of symbols. c.
Text Entry Quick Reference This table gives instructions for entering letters, numbers, and symbols. Do this.. Enter a letter In Normal Alpha mode, press a key. 4 BREW Download an Application Your Kyocera phone has the added ability to download and manage applications through BREW. BREW brings you the full range of applications and services you have come to expect from the Internet: Email and instant messaging, real-time navigation services, group chat, games, relevant news, and much more. You connect to the server, download applications, and then manage them as you like.
5 Contacts Use your phone’s contacts list to store information about a person or company. Contacts Menu Select Contacts from the main menu to access the following functions: Level 2 > Level 3 View All Access your existing contacts list. Add New Add a new entry to your contacts list. Groups View your groups of contacts. Speed Dial List View your contacts assigned with speed dials. AF T Level 1 > Contacts View your contacts assigned with voice dials.
Use Fast Find Add a Code or Extension With Fast Find enabled, you can press one or two keys to view close matches of the contact. See “Call Contact using Fast Find” on page 68. When saving the phone number of an automated service, you may include a pause for dialing an extension. 1. From the home screen, enter a phone number. 2. Select Options and a type of pause: – Time Pause causes the phone to stop dialing for two seconds.
1. From View All, select a contact. 2. At the contact details screen, select a number or email address. 3. Select Send Pic Msg. 4. Complete your multimedia message and select Send. Send a Contact vCard 1. From View All, select a contact. 2. At the contact details screen, select Edit. 3. Press down twice to scroll to the number type dropdown and press the OK key. 4. Select a number type. The appropriate icon appears next to the number in your contacts list. 5. Select Save. Assign Ringers to Contacts 1.
Add a Prefix to Phone Numbers 4. Select groups from the list provided. A checkmark appears next to each selection. You can also remove a checkmark. 5. When finished, select Done. Use Prepend to add a prefix, such as an area code, to a phone number: 1. From View All, select a contact. 2. At the contact details screen, select a number. 3. Select Prepend to enter the prefix at the beginning of the number. 4. Select Save. Visit Web Addresses 1. From View All, select a contact. 2.
From Erase Contacts, select Erase All > Yes > Yes to erase all your contacts and groups. Note: You cannot recover deleted information. Contact Groups You can assign your contacts to groups. Your phone comes with default groups. You can also create your own groups. View Groups Send Multimedia Messages to Groups 1. From Groups list, highlight a group. 2. Select Options > Send Pic Msg. 3. Complete your multimedia message and select Send. Add or Remove Contacts from Groups 1. From Groups, highlight a group.
2. At the group details screen, scroll to the group name. 3. Select Options > Msg Tone > Assign Msg Tone and a ringer from the list. (Scroll to play the ringers.) Assign Pictures to Groups 5. When finished, select Done. Your new message group appears the next time you view your message groups list. Erase a Group 1. From Groups, highlight a group. 2. Select Options > Erase > Yes. 1. From Groups, select a group you have created. 2. At the group details screen, scroll to the group name. 3.
Voice Dial List Search Contact Voice AF Your phone creates a voice dial tag for each contact that has a name field which is not blank or a name that is more than five syllables. You can enable or disable the voice dial tags associated with your contacts. 1. From Voice Dial List, press the OK key to add or remove checkmarks. A checkmark appears next to each enabled voice dial. (Scroll through the list to play the voice dial tags.) 2. When done, select Save.
6 Recent Calls Recent Calls Menu Select Recent Calls from the main menu to access the following functions: Level 2 > Level 3 All See a list all voice calls. Incoming See a list all voice calls you have received. Outgoing See a list all voice calls you have made. Missed See a list all voice calls you have missed. Access these options: All, Incoming, Outgoing, and Missed.
Deal with a Missed Call Erase Call List Records When you have missed a call, “Missed Call” appears on your screen. You can do one of the following: • To clear the screen, select OK. • To view the call details, select Calls and press the OK key. • To return the call, select Calls and press the Send key. Erase a Single Record 1. At a call list, highlight a contact. 2. Select Options > Erase Record > Yes.
View Home Calls Timer View Outgoing Calls Timer Select Home Calls to view the number of calls and the total call time. Select Done when finished. This timer tracks all calls made and received in your home network since you last reset the timer. To reset this timer to zero, select Reset > Yes. Select Outgoing Calls to view the number of calls and the total call time. Select Done when finished. This timer tracks all calls made since you last reset the timer. To reset this timer to zero, select Reset > Yes.
7 Media Gallery This section describes how your phone can retrieve and playback media files and other downloads. Media Gallery Menu Select Media Gallery from the main menu to access the following functions: Level 2 > Level 3 Images Access these options: Camera Pictures, Saved Images, Wallpapers, Wallpaper Shuffle, Screensavers, and Caller IDs. Sounds Access these options: Saved Sounds, Ringers, My Music, Ringer Shuffle, and Voice Memos.
2. Select Add to include a file in the shuffle, Remove to remove a file from the shuffle, or Options to access more features. 3. When finished, select Options > Done. Send a File Copy a File to a Memory Card 1. From a media file list, highlight a file. 2. Select Options > Send > Via EMS Msg (to attach to an enhanced message), Via MMS Msg (to attach to a multimedia message), Via Bluetooth (to send to a Bluetooth-enabled device), or To Printer (to print on a Bluetooth-enabled device). The options available depend on the file type. 3. Complete the appropriate task. Note: If your phone has no Bluetooth feature, you may only send the file with a message. 1.
Use the Zoom Erase All Pictures 1. 2. 3. 4. From Delete All, select Camera Pics Only > Yes to erase all files in the Camera Pictures folder. Note: You can only erase unlocked files. From a media file list, select a file. Select Options > Zoom. Use the Navigation key to zoom in and out. Select Cancel to exit. Erase All Image Files 1. From Camera Pictures, select Options > Slideshow to play the slideshow of the files contained in the current folder. 2.
8 Messaging Use Messaging to send, receive, and erase messages from your phone. Note: The functions available may vary depending on the services provided. Check with your service provider for details and possible usage charges. Messaging Menu Select Messaging from the main menu to access the following functions: Level 2 > Level 3 Messaging New Text Msg Compose a text message. New Pic Msg Compose a multimedia message. Voicemail Shows how many voicemails are waiting.
Send Messages Create a Text Message 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. T You can only send text messages to phone numbers capable of receiving them or to email addresses if supported. 1. From New Text Msg, enter a recipient’s phone number or email address. (Select Options to access contacts, groups or recently used addresses. Scroll down to move to the next field when done.) You can message up to ten recipients at once. Use comma or spaces to separate addresses. 2. Enter the message. (Select Options to access more features.

Save Received Messages as Preset Text Add Contacts to Messages When viewing a received message, select Options > Save QuickText to use it later as preset text. 1. At the compose message screen, select Options > Insert Contacts when entering the text. 2. Select a contact from your contacts list. 3. Complete your message. Attaching Files to Messages Add Memos to Messages Use slides in a multimedia message to send multiple files of the same type, such as pictures or voice memos.
Take Pictures for Messages Request a Message Receipt 1. At the compose message screen, select Options > Take a Picture when adding an image. 2. Take a picture. 3. Select it to add to your message. 4. Complete your message. 1. When entering a message, select Options > Msg Settings > Msg Receipt > Request to request a message delivery notice. 2. Complete your message. Preview Messages D R 1. At the compose message screen, select Options > Preview Message when entering the message or media file. 2.
6. Select Done. 7. Complete your message. Your phone saves the message and sends it later. Set the Validity Period 1. When entering the message, select Options > Msg Settings > CC & BCC to enable or disable the CC and BCC address fields. 2. Complete your message. Handle Received Messages Reply to Text Messages When receiving a message, your phone displays a notification and the message icon appears at the top of your screen. The message icon flashes with an urgent message alert if the message is urgent.
2. After viewing the message, select Reply or Options > Reply if the message has more than one slide. Select Options to access more features. 3. Complete your message and select Send. Reply to all Recipients Reply to Multimedia Messages (with Prompt) Reply with a Copy of the Message T 1. When viewing a received message, select Options > Reply with Copy. The original message appears in your reply message. 2. Complete your message and select Send.
View Messages with Multiple Slides accidental deletion. To unlock the message, select Options > Unlock Msg. Sort Messages in Inbox 1. From Inbox, select Options > Sort. 2. Select a sort option. Go to Web Addresses in Messages Handle Attached Files View Message Information Play Attached Files D R When viewing a received message with files attached, select the applicable save option to save the attached files, including graphics, sounds, contacts (vCard), or events (vCal).
Check your Voicemail The message has been sent to more than one recipient. Check Message Status in Outbox Use the following symbols to check your Outbox for the status of messages sent but still in process. The message is pending and will be sent when possible. You can cancel delivery of the message. The message cannot be sent because service is not available. An alert appears on your phone if the message cannot be sent.
Set your Signature 1. From Alerts, select Msg Alert. 2. Select an alert for messages. If you select an & Remind alert, the phone notifies you once when receiving a new message and notifies you again every five minutes. To stop a reminder alert, select Ignore. You can create a signature to appear at the end of all outgoing messages. 1. From Signature, enter your signature. 2. Select OK to save the signature. Note: The signature counts towards the character limit of your message.
Enable CC/BCC Fields From CC and BCC, select Disabled (to hide the CC and BCC fields) or Enabled (to show them). Set Callback Number Request Text Message Receipts From Text Msg Receipt, select Request to request a notification when a recipient has received your text message. Enable Save to Sent Request Multimedia Message Receipts From Save to Sent, select Enabled to automatically save outgoing messages to the Sent Msgs folder. T 1.
Message Groups 2. Select Options > Send Pic Msg. 3. Complete your multimedia message and select Send. You can create groups for messaging. View Message Groups List 1. From Message Groups, highlight a group. 2. Select Options > Edit. 3. If you are modifying a group you created, select Next. Otherwise, go to the next step. 4. Select contacts from the list provided. A checkmark appears next to each contact in the group. Press the the OK key to add or remove checkmarks. 5. When finished, select Done.
Erase Messages Erasing old messages frees up memory in your phone. You can erase messages as you send or read them, erase them one at a time, or erase them all at once. Erase a Single Message Erase Messages from a Folder AF From Erase Msgs, select a folder to erase messages from. For example, to erase received messages, select Inbox > Yes. Note: You cannot recover deleted information. T When viewing a received message, select Options > Erase > Yes.
9 Tools & Games Tools & Games Menu Select Tools & Games from the main menu to access the following functions: Level 2 > Level 3 Brick Attack Play Brick Attack. Voice Memo Access these options: Record New and Recorded Memos. Scheduler Access these options: Add New Event, View Month, View Day, Go to Date, View All Events, and Settings Set an alarm. AF Alarm Clock T Level 1 > Tools & Games Calculate a tip. Calculator Perform basic calculations. Timer Set a countdown timer.
Use Voice Memo to record and play back audio memos. Record Voice Memos 1. From Voice Memo, select Record New. 2. Record your voice memo and select Stop when done. 3. Select Save. If you receive an incoming call while recording a memo, the memo is saved and the incoming call screen appears. Play Voice Memos Scheduler AF 1. From Recorded Memos, highlight a memo. 2. Select Play to play the memo or Options to access more features. R Use Scheduler to schedule events and set reminder alerts.
View Events Return to the Current Date View Events by Month From View Day, select Options > Go to Today to return to the current date. Sort Events by Time From View All Events, select Options > Sort by Time to sort events by time. Sort Events by Type From View All Events, select Options > Sort by Type to sort events by their assigned type. Sort Events by Priority T 1. From View Month, scroll through the month view. (Days with events are highlighted.) 2. Press the OK key to select a date. 3.
Set Scheduler Hours 1. From View Day, select an event. 2. At the event details screen, select Options > Copy. 3. Enter a new name for the event. 4. Complete the event and select Save. Erase Events 1. From Scheduler Hours, modify the start and end times. – Scroll left or right to move between hour, minute, and AM/PM fields. – Scroll up or down to change hour, minute, and AM/PM. 2. Select Save when done. Erase an Event Erase Events Automatically 1. From View Day, select an event. 2.
Set an Alarm 2. Scroll down to select the percentage you want to tip. The total bill with tip is displayed. If you are finished, select Done. Otherwise, go on to the next step. 3. Scroll down to enter the number of people sharing the bill (or enter 1 if paying the entire bill). 4. Select Next to view the final bill. 5. Select Done when finished. Use Calculator T 1. From Alarm Clock, scroll to one of the alarms and select Set. 2. Press the OK key to change the time, if needed.
Use Timer View a Memo The timer counts down for the specified time. It beeps when that amount of time has elapsed. 1. From Timer, select Set. 2. Enter the time length. – Scroll left or right to move between hours, minutes, or seconds fields. – Scroll up or down to change hours, minutes, or seconds. 3. Select Sound, and choose from the list to modify the sound. 4. To work the timer, select from the following options: – Start begins the countdown. – Stop pauses the countdown. – Reset clears the timer.
Erase All Memos From View Memos, select Options > Erase All > Yes. Note: Selecting Erase All only erases unlocked memos. World Clock Use World Clock to check times in cities around the world in relation to your local time. Set World Clock Search World Clock AF T 1. From World Clock, first scroll left or right to select a time zone. 2. Check your local time and date on the first line, followed by your selected world city and its time and date. D R 1.
10 Browser Launch Browser Browse the Web 1. Surf to the Web page you want to bookmark and select Options > Add to Bookmarks. 2. Edit the bookmark's details, if needed. 3. Select Options > Save to save the bookmark. To access your saved bookmarks, select Options > Bookmarks from any web page. AF Select Browser to launch the browser. An alert appears notifying of airtime fees, if you have enabled web alerts. Select OK to continue.
11 Music Player Use Music Player to play and manage media files. Play a Song Search for a Song 1. From Music Player, select Options > Music Library. 2. Select All Songs and enter the first letter(s) of the name of your desired song to search for it. The search letters you enter are not case sensitive. You can also scroll through the song list. Note: You can sort your songs in various ways. For example, to sort songs by artist, choose By Artist instead of All Songs. 3.
Work with Songs Music Player Settings 1. From Music Player, select Options > Music Library. 2. Select All Songs or other song list. 3. Scroll to a song and select Options to access functions such as locking or assigning the file. For more information, see “Media File Options” on page 35. From Music Player, select Options > Settings to adjust the following features. Enable Repeat To play your tracks continuously in a loop, from Repeat, select Enable.
12 Settings Settings Menu Select Settings from the main menu to access the following functions: Level 2 > Level 3 Bluetooth Access these options: On/Off, My Devices, and Settings. Sounds Access these options: Ringers, Ringer Mode, Volume, Slide Sounds, Pwr On/Off Sound, and Keypad. Access these options: Set Wallpaper, Wallpaper Shuffle, Set Screensaver, Themes, Main Menu View, My Banner, Backlighting, Brightness, Language, and Time/Date Format.
The Bluetooth® wireless technology (not available on all phones) enables wireless connectivity with accessories such as portable or installed hands-free car kits, headsets, handsets, computers, and so on. For details, check with your service provider. You must use a Bluetooth device (compatible with Class 2 Bluetooth wireless technology, version 1.2) in order to use this phone wirelessly. Bluetooth accessories display a symbol on your phone.
View Device Services Enable OBEX Authentication A Bluetooth device paired with your phone may have more than one service profile (such as Headset, Handsfree, and so on). Do the following to check the services available: 1. From My Devices, highlight a device. 2. Select Options > Services. 3. At the service list, highlight a profile and select Connect to change the active profile. From OBEX Authentication, select Enabled.
– View Ringer Shuffle Set Ringer Volume 1. From Ringer Shuffle, select View. Only the files used in your shuffle appear. 2. Select Edit to modify the shuffle list or press the Back key to exit. 1. From Ringer Volume, scroll right or left to set the ringer volume. 2. Press the OK key to save. 1. From Spkrphone Volume, scroll right or left to set the speakerphone volume. 2. Press the OK key to save. Set Earpiece Volume 1. From Earpiece Volume, scroll right or left to set the earpiece volume. 2.
Keypad 2. Select Add (to include a file in the shuffle) or Remove (to remove a file from the shuffle). 3. When finished, select Options > Done. From Keypad, you can modify the following settings. Set Key Press Sounds View Wallpaper Shuffle From Key Sounds, select Tone, Click, or Off to set the sounds you hear when pressing the keypad. 1. From Wallpaper Shuffle, select View. Set Main Menu View Set Keypad Duration From Main Menu View, select one of the following: • Grid displays icons of each menu item, with its name at the top of the screen. • List displays a list of all menu items. The next time you view the Menu, your selected menu style appears. 4. 5. Auto Keyguard Enable Auto Keyguard Use Auto Keyguard to automatically lock the keypad after 30 seconds of inactivity to prevent accidental key presses. From Auto Keyguard, select Enabled or from the home screen, press and hold the Back key. Unlock Keyguard From the home screen, select Unlock and press the OK key to unlock the keypad. Place a Call on Hold D R You can place a call on hold with Answer Hold enabled. Note: If you are already on a call and you receive another call, you cannot place the incoming call on hold.
Set Missed Call Alert Voice Features From Missed Call Alert, select an alert type for missed calls. If you select an & Remind alert, the phone notifies you once when receiving a new message and notifies you again every five minutes. To stop a reminder alert, select Ignore. Use the following features to customize the voice commands. Enable Any Key Answer Customize Keys From Automatic Add, select Enabled to automatically add a contact to your voice dial list when you create a new contact.
Set Digit Lengths You can set the number of digits used for a phone number in your voice dial list. R Set Roaming Restrictions D You can restrict your phone from making a call when roaming. From Roam Option, select Automatic (to allow roaming) or No Roaming (to disallow roaming). Set Phone Line Your phone can have two service accounts, or phone lines, associated with it. Each phone line has its own phone number. Note: You must first establish a second phone line with your service provider. Once 72 established, a second phone number becomes available in the menu for selection.
Enable Roaming Call Alert Unlock the Phone You can set the phone to warn you before you answer or place a call while roaming. Note: Call prompt is disabled when the phone is in Emergency Mode. From Roam Call Alert, select Enabled. The phone emits a distinctive ring to indicate when you are roaming during a call. To accept or place a call while roaming, you must press 1. 1. From the home screen, select Unlock. 2. Enter your four-digit lock code.

13 Camera Camera Tips Bluetooth (to send to a Bluetooth-enabled device), or To Printer (to print on a Bluetooth-enabled device). Select Erase to delete the picture from your phone. 5. Press the End key to exit camera mode. Note: If your phone has no Bluetooth feature, you may only send the file with a message. T Your phone comes with a camera. Before using your phone’s camera, here are some tips: • You cannot activate the camera while on an active call or while browsing files in the media gallery.
Enable Multishot Mode Set Picture Quality From camera mode, select Options > Settings > Multishot > On to take multiple pictures. The icon indicates multishot mode is enabled. When you take a picture, press and hold the OK key to take multiple pictures. A single tone plays for each picture taken. Your camera is set to a lower resolution during multishot mode. The resolution setting returns to the previous setting when you are done.
D R AF T 3. Select OK to choose a frame. 4. Take a picture with the frame. The frame is part of the image and can not be removed.
14 Voice Commands Call a Contact 1. From the home screen, press and hold the Send key. The phone prompts, “Say a command”. 2. Say “Dial Number” and then speak the digits of the number you want to call. If you pause, the phone prompts you, “Did you say ” or “Say a number” if it does not recognize the name. Say “Yes” to make the call, “No” to cancel the phone call. 3. Press the End key to end the call. D R AF 1. From the home screen, press and hold the Send key.
Find a Contact D R AF T 1. From the home screen, press and hold the Send key. The phone prompts, “Say a command”. 2. Say “Find Contacts”. The phone prompts, “Say a name”. The phone prompts, “Please repeat” or “Say a name” if it does not recognize the name. If the name you spoke matches a contact in the voice dial list, the phone prompts: “Name, correct?” Say “Yes” to display the contact, “No” to select a similar name, or “Cancel” to cancel the search.
