Chapter 1. Important safety information Read this first This information can help you safely use your notebook computer. Follow and retain all information included with your computer. The information in this document does not alter the terms of your purchase agreement or the Limited Warranty. Customer safety is important. Our products are developed to be safe and effective. However, personal computers are electronic devices.
• Signs that liquid has been spilled or an object has fallen onto the computer product, the power cord, or power adapter. • The computer product, power cord, or power adapter has been exposed to water. • The product has been dropped or damaged in any way. • The product does not operate normally when you follow the operating instructions.
Power supply statement DANGER Never remove the cover on a power supply or any part that has the following label attached. Hazardous voltage, current, and energy levels are present inside any component that has this label attached. There are no serviceable parts inside these components. If you suspect a problem with one of these parts, contact a service technician. Power cords and power adapters DANGER Use only the power cords and power adapters supplied by the product manufacturer.
Electrical current safety information DANGER Electric current from power, telephone, and communication cables is hazardous. To avoid a shock hazard: • Do not use your computer during a lightning storm. • Do not connect or disconnect any cables or perform installation, maintenance, or reconfiguration of this product during an electrical storm. • Connect all power cords to a properly wired and grounded electrical outlet. • Connect to properly wired outlets any equipment that will be attached to this product.
Extension cords and related devices Ensure that extension cords, surge protectors, uninterruptible power supplies, and power strips that you use are rated to handle the electrical requirements of the product. Never overload these devices. If power strips are used, the load should not exceed the power strip input rating. Consult an electrician for more information if you have questions about power loads, power requirements, and input ratings.
Notice for built-in rechargeable battery DANGER Do not attempt to remove or replace the built-in rechargeable battery. Replacement of the battery must be done by a Lenovo-authorized repair facility or technician. Only recharge the battery strictly according to instructions included in the product documentation. The Lenovo-authorized repair facilities or technicians recycle Lenovo batteries according to local laws and regulations.
Liquid crystal display (LCD) notice CAUTION: The liquid crystal display (LCD) is made of glass, and rough handling or dropping the computer can cause the LCD to break. If the LCD breaks and the internal fluid gets into your eyes or on your hands, immediately wash the affected areas with water for at least 15 minutes; if any symptoms are present after washing, get medical care.

Chapter 2. Product overview Front view Note: Depending on the model, your computer might look different from the illustrations in this User Guide. Attention: Do not force the computer display open beyond 180 degrees from the relative position of the keyboard. Forcing the computer display beyond this point might cause damage. 1. Camera Take pictures or record videos by clicking Camera from the Start menu. 2. Camera status indicator When this indicator is on, the camera is in use. 3.
Base view Press the power button to turn on the computer or put the computer to sleep mode. 1. Power button To turn off the computer, open the Start menu and click Power, and then click Shut down. The indicator in the power button shows the system status of your computer. • On: The computer is on (battery power 21%–100%). 2. System status indicator • Blinks rapidly: The computer is on (battery power 1%–20%). • Blinks slowly: The computer is in sleep mode. • Off: The computer is off. 3.
Left-side view 1. Power connector Connect to ac power through an ac power adapter. This indicator shows the ac power and battery power status of the computer. 2. ac power status indicator • White: Connected to ac power (battery power 91%–100%) • Amber: Connected to ac power (battery power 1%–90%) • Off: Not connected to ac power 3. USB 3.1 connector Gen 1 4. Audio connector Connect USB-compatible devices, such as a USB keyboard, USB mouse, USB storage device, or USB printer.
Right-side view 1. Speaker Play sound. 2. Novo button When the computer is off, insert a needle or a straightened paper clip into this button to open the BIOS setup window, the Boot Menu window, or the System Recovery window. 3. USB-C™ connector Connect to external devices through compatible cables. CAUTION: Do not connect ac power adapter to this connector. This connector can not be used to provide power to the computer. 4. Use the special keys The special keys on the keyboard help you work more easily and effectively. For information on how to change the special key settings, see “Change the special key settings” on page 16.

Chapter 3. Basic operations Put your computer to sleep mode In the lower left corner of the desktop, click Start ➙ Power ➙ Sleep. Note: By default, press the power button or close the computer display to put the computer to sleep mode. To wake up the computer from sleep mode, do one of the following: • Press the power button. • Press any key on the keyboard. Start the Lenovo setup utility Shut down the computer and insert a needle or a straightened paper clip into the Novo button.
Step 3. Select Exit ➙ Exit saving changes. Change the special key settings Step 1. Start the Lenovo setup utility. Step 2. In the Lenovo setup utility, select Configuration ➙ Hotkey Mode and press Enter. Then, select Disabled or Enabled as desired. Step 3. Select Exit ➙ Exit saving changes. Enable or disable the Always on USB function For some Lenovo computers that come with the Always on USB connectors, you can enable or disable the Always-on function in the Lenovo setup utility. Step 1.
Chapter 4. Reset and restore Windows Windows 10 recovery options Windows 10 provides several options for you to restore or reset your computer. The following table helps you decide which option to choose if you are having problems with your computer. Problem Available options Your computer is not working well after installing apps, drivers, or updates. Restore from a system restore point. Your computer is not working well and you do not know what causes the problem. Reset your computer.
Note: System protection must be turned on for the system drive (typically drive C) of your computer before you can create restore points. Select a drive and then select Configure to turn on or disable system protection. Reset your computer If your computer is not working well and you are not sure why, you may reset it. Step 1. Open the Start menu. Step 2. Click Settings ➙ Update & Security ➙ Recovery; and then select Get started under Reset this PC. Step 3. Choose an option.
Attention: Previous files on the drive will be deleted. Back up personal files before using it to create a recovery drive. When recovery drive is created, you might see a Delete the recovery partition from your PC option. If you want to free up drive space on your computer, select it and then select Delete. Otherwise, select Finish. Chapter 4.

Chapter 5. Accessibility, ergonomic, and maintenance information Accessibility and comfort Good ergonomic practice is important to get the most from your personal computer and to avoid discomfort. Arrange your workplace and the equipment you use to suit your individual needs and the kind of work that you perform. In addition, use healthy work habits to maximize your performance and comfort while using your computer.
Chair Use a chair that gives you good back support and seat height adjustment. Use chair adjustments to best suit your desired posture. Arm and hand position If available, use chair arm rests or an area on your working surface to provide weight support for your arms. Keep your forearms, wrists, and hands in a relaxed and neutral (horizontal) position. Type with a soft touch without pounding the keys. Leg position Keep your thighs parallel to the floor and your feet flat on the floor or on a footrest.
Cleaning the computer cover Wipe it with a lint-free cloth dampened in mild soap and water. Avoid applying liquids directly to the cover. Cleaning the keyboard Wipe the keys one by one with a lint-free cloth dampened in mild soap and water. If you wipe several keys at a time, the cloth might hook onto an adjacent key and possibly damage it. Avoid spraying cleaner directly onto the keyboard.

To properly dispose of disused components, such as a printed circuit board or drive, use the methods described above for collecting and recycling a disused computer or monitor.
Battery recycling information for the European Union Notice: This mark applies only to countries within the European Union (EU). Batteries or packaging for batteries are labeled in accordance with European Directive 2006/66/EC concerning batteries and accumulators and waste batteries and accumulators. The Directive determines the framework for the return and recycling of used batteries and accumulators as applicable throughout the European Union.
Important WEEE information The WEEE marking on Lenovo products applies to countries with WEEE and e-waste regulations (for example, the European WEEE Directive, India E-Waste Management Rules). Appliances are labeled in accordance with local regulations concerning waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE).
