1.Safetyprecautions

PleasereadthefollowingguidelinesforcorrectuseoftheSE2L.Proper
handlingandusageensuretheSE2Ltooperateaccordingly.
(1)General
Danger
●
SE2LisanAOPDDRthatdetectsobstacleswithinthe configured
protection zone by detecting diffused optical radiation. Optical
radiationsaregeneratedandemittedintotheconfiguredprotection
zone.The optical radiations arethenrotated by a rotatingmotor
covering the protection zone. The opticalradiations are diffused
andreflectedbacktowardsthereceivingunitoftheSE2L.

SE2L is designed to protect human begins or systems by
monitoringthehazardousarea.Itisnotdesignedfortheprotection
fromhighspeedobjectsortheelectromagneticradiation.
●
Pre-operation tests must beperformed inorder to verifythe
functionalityandtheperformanceoftheSE2L.
●
DonotmodifyordisassembleSE2L.Suchmodificationswillaffect
thedetectioncapabilityleadingtoinjuriesordeath.
●
DonotmodifyordisassembleSE2Ltomaintainitshousingrating.
Suchmodificationswillvoidthewarranty.
●
Operatorisreferredtoapersonwhoisresponsible andqualified
to operate the SE2L. Operatorshould have attended appropriate
safety-relatedtrainingandcouldoperatetheSE2Lcorrectly.
●
A person-in-charge must be assigned and have trained the
operatoraboutthecorrectuseofSE2L.
●
Theperson-in-chargeisresponsibletoensuretheproperworking
environmentforSE2L.
●
Theperson-in-charge isresponsible forthecompliance with the
localsafety requirements, standards,rules and regulations, laws
ofrespectivenations,statesordistrictswhentheSE2Lisusedina
safety-relatedsystem.
●
SE2Lhasbeenmanufacturedandshippedunderthestrictquality
control. If you findany defect in theproductcontact the nearest
distributororsalesrepresentative.
●
IDECcannotbeheldresponsibleforthedamagesorfailuredue
to misuse ofthe product bycustomers or third parties.IDEC
cannottakeresponsibilitiesforanylossfromthemisuseexceptfor
theresponsibilitiesgovenedbylow.
●
Usershouldpreparetestpiecesfordetectioncapabilityverification.
Thetestpieceshouldemulatethesmallestobjectthatisintended
tobedetectedduringtheoperation.
●
Maximum level of homogeneous pollution for SE2L is 30%.
Warning signal will be displayed if the pollutionexceeded the
statedlimit.However, operator shouldalways keep the optical
windowincleancondition.
●
Before resettingthe interlock ofthe SE2L, operatormust ensure
thesurroundingissafeespeciallyintheprotectionzone.
●
Duringdecommission of theSE2L,protective measures must be
takentoensuresafetyontheprotectionzone.Protectivematerials
such as guards or lightcurtainshould be used to prevent any
passageintothehazardousarea.
●
SE2Lincludingitsaccessoriesaresubjecttochangewithoutprior
noticefortheimprovement.
●
SE2Lshouldbedisposedasindustrialwasteorinaccordancewith
thelocaldisposaldirectives.

Operatingenvironment

●
MakesurethatSE2Lʼsoperatingenvironmentiswithinthestated
specification(temperature, humidity, ambient light,etc.).Using
SE2Lin theout-of-specenvironment may cause malfunction or
decreasethedetectioncapacity.
●
DonotuseormountSE2Lneardevicesthatcouldgeneratestrong
electromagneticwavesasitcouldaffecttheoperationofSE2L.
●
DonotuseormountSE2Lindusty,smoky,ormistyenvironments,
orwherecorrosivesubstancesarepresent.Operatingundersuch
environmentsmaydecreasethedetectioncapacityofSE2L.
●
Thisproductisforindooruseonly.
(3)Installation
Danger
●
Install the SE2L on a firm surface or structures to avoid
displacementofthesensor.
●
TheSE2Lshouldbefirmly mounted usingscrews.Shockand
vibration shouldnot loosenthe mounting.SE2L will notoperate
properlyiftheprotectionzoneisdifferent fromtheintendedarea
duetothedisplacement.Recommendedtorqueforscrewsis3N・m.
●
Safety distance must bedetermined before installingSE2L.User
mustensure the functionality of theSE2Lafter installationby
placingatestpieceinalltheprotectionzone.
●
During the installation of the SE2L, protective materials suchas
guardsorlightcurtainshouldbeusedtopreventanypassageinto
thehazardousarea.
●
Resetswitchusedforinterlock,mutingandoverridefunctionshould
bemountedat alocationawayfrom theprotectionzone.Alsothe
wholeprotectionzonemustbevisiblefromtheswitchlocation.
●
MutualinterferencecouldoccurwhenidenticalSE2Lsaremounted
atthesamedetectionplane.
●
SE2Lshouldbemountedatalocationwhichhassufficientspace
formaintenance.
●
Do not addanyprotective materials such as glass, transparent
coveretcinfrontoftheopticalwindow.Thiswouldleadtolossof
detectioncapabilityoftheSE2L.
●
Minimumdetectablewidthvarieswiththedistance.
(4)Wiring
Danger
●
SwitchOFFallthepowersupplyduringwiring.
●
Ifthesourceofthepowersupplyistakenfromaconverter,please
ensurethepowersupplyfulfillsthefollowingrequirements:
a) A rated output voltage of 24VDC ±10%(SELV circuit,
OvervoltageCategoryII)
b) Reinforced insulation ordouble insulation for the primaryand
secondarycircuit
c)Holdingtimeoftheoutputshouldbeabove20ms
d) The power supply must comply with the requirements of
electrical safety and electromagnetic compatibility (EMC)
regulationsoftherespectivecountry,statesanddistrict.

All the input/outputsignalcables should be installed awayfrom
machinespowerlinesandhigh-voltagecables.
●
UseOSSDoftheSE2Ltocontrolsafety-relatedmachine/system.
Donot use Warning signalstocontrol safety-related machine as
thesearenon-safetysignals.
●
BoththeOSSD1andOSSD2outputsshouldbeconnectedtothe
safety-relatedmachinesorcontrolsystem.IfOSSD3andOSSD4
areusedtheymustbeconnectedinthesamemanner.
●
Useshield cable forthe connection between OSSDsignals and
safety-relatedmachines or systems.
(5)Configuration
Danger
●
Configuration of safety functionsarepasswordprotected.Only
authorized personnel oroperator withpassword are allowedfor
configuration.
●
SE2Lwillnotoperatewithoutaninitialconfiguration.
●
Pre-operationtestmustbeperformedtoverifytheconfigurations
beforeoperatingtheSE2L.
●
IncreasingtheresponsetimeofOSSDwillincreasethestabilityof
SE2L.However, thiswill reduce the detection capability towards
moving objects.User must performrisk assessmentbeforeusing
thisfunction.
●
Changes made during the configuration must be recorded.
Operator canuse thereport generating function in theSE2L
ProjectDesigner.

User must perform the following tests and maintenance by
referringtothechecklistsinthismanual.

b)Operationinspection
c)Dailyinspection
d)Periodicalinspection
*The checklists inthis document areprovided asbasic guidelines
whileperforming the testandmaintenance. Usermust perform
additionalinspection andmaintenancetasks deemed necessary
fortherespectiveapplication.

Stopthe machine andstop using theSE2Liffaultsare detected
duringthesetests.
●
Cleantheopticalwindowwhenitgetscontaminated.Iftheoptical
windowisdamageditshouldbereplacedbyanewone.
