Temperature Control
OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS
Water temperature can be adjusted by turning the knob
of the gas control/thermostat on the front of the water
heater. Always read and understand safety instructions
contained in the Use & Care Manual before adjusting the
temperature setpoint.
NOTE: Refer to Water Temperature in Safety
Information, page 5.
Safety and energy conservation should be considered
when selecting the temperature setpoint of the water
heater:
The recommended setpoint for the water heater is 120°F
(49°C), as water temperatures above 125°F can cause
severe burns or death from scalding.
• Lower temperature setpoints increase energy savings.
Higher temperature setpoints can increase the cleaning
performance of dishwashers and washing machines, as
well as killing bacteria.
Mixing Valves
If the water heater’s temperature is set above HOT
(120°F/49°C), supplemental mixing valves are
recommended to reduce point-of-use water temperature
by mixing hot and cold water in branch water lines.
Contact a licensed plumber or local plumbing authority for
additional information.
Vacation Setting
This setting is recommended when you will be away from
the home for an extended period of time and hot water
is not needed. The vacation setting will reduce the water
temperature to 50ºF (10°C) to conserve energy.
NOTE: Refer to Hydrogen Gas Caution, page 4.
