DESCRIPTION: United Coatings
Roof Mate
Butter Grade Flashing
is a water-based high solids acrylic sealant that utilizes the latest
advances in acrylic technology. It is part of the Roof Mate
Coating
System and is used to repair and reinforce penetrations and seams.
Roof Mate
Butter Grade Flashing has a thick, buttery consistency,
which allows it to be easily worked into vertical seams on metal
roofs, into gaps in flashings, around protrusions, and into heavily
alligatored areas in weathered asphaltic roofing. This material has
low shrinkage and does not utilize plasticizers.
USES: On metal roofs, Roof Mate
Butter Grade Flashing can be
used on metal roof fasteners and vertical seams, and with Roof
Mate
Fabric over horizontal seams. On asphaltic roofs, Roof
Mate
Butter Grade Flashing can be used over seams, around
penetrations, and over alligatored areas. Roof Mate
Butter Grade
Flashing can also be used with Roof Mate
Fabric to reinforce
penetrations and seams on asphaltic roofs. On TPO and PVC roofs,
Roof Mate
Butter Grade Flashing can be used over penetrations
and seams to provide extra protection, or with fabric to reinforce
penetrations and seams. Note: TPO or PVC roof must be primed
before applying a flashing or coating. Do NOT use on
EPDM membranes.
SUBSTRATE PREPARATION: All surfaces must be clean, dry, and
free of any dirt, dust, oil, surface chemicals, or other contaminants
that may interfere with optimum adhesion. Any unsound areas
in the roof must be repaired or replaced prior to application.
Deteriorated or badly corroded metal must be replaced prior to
application. TPO & PVC roofs must be primed before applying Roof
Mate
Base Coat. See gaf.com for more details.
APPLICATION: Apply with a putty knife, spatula, or stiff-bristle
brush. Apply up to 1/4” (6 mm) thick. Apply the Roof Mate
Butter
Grade Flashing in sufficient quantity to encapsulate fastener heads
and completely seal the seam or crack being treated, extending 1 –
2 inches (25 – 52 mm) on either side of the opening. A stiff-bristle
brush should be utilized for working it into seams, cracks, and
alligatored areas. When sealing vertical seams on metal roof decks,
the Roof Mate
Butter Grade Flashing should be worked up into the
seam with a brush.
CLEAN-UP: Thoroughly rinse application equipment with
clean water.
STORAGE & HANDLING: Store material in a clean and well-
ventilated area at 40°F – 90°F (4°C – 32°C). Storage outside this
temperature range may shorten shelf life. Keep containers covered
when not in use. Do NOT allow coating to freeze.
SHELF LIFE: 12 months from date of manufacture in unopened
containers, if stored properly.
IMPORTANT: Repair leaks promptly to avoid adverse effects,
including mold growth.
DO NOT apply on wet substrates or in temperatures below 50°F
(10°C).
DO NOT apply if rain, dew, fog, or freezing temperatures are in the
24-hour forecast.
DO NOT apply in the late afternoon if heavy moisture condensation
may appear during the night.
DO NOT apply on substrates that exceed 105°F (40°C).
