Connecting external devices

Connecting USB devices
On the USB ports you can connect external devices that also have a USB port (e.g. a printer, a
scanner or a modem).

USB devices are hot-pluggable. This allows cables from USB devices to be connected
and disconnected with the system switched on.
Additional information can be found in the documentation for the USB devices.
Ê Connect the data cable to the external device.

Device drivers
The devices you connect to the USB ports usually require no driver of their own, as the
required software is already included in the operating system. However, if the USB device
requires its own software, please install it from the data carrier provided with the USB
device.
Connecting external audio devices
Headphones port
Via the headphone port
you can connect either headphones or external loudspeakers to your
notebook.
Microphone connector
Via the microphone port
you can connect an external microphone to your notebook.
Connecting external devices to S-Video Out
You can connect an external monitor, a TV set or a projector to the notebook.
· Using the [Fn] + [F11] key combination you can switch back and forth between the external
monitor and the LCD screen.
Ê Switch off the notebook and the external device.
Ê Connect the external monitor to the S-Video Out socket

Ê First switch on the monitor and then the notebook.
Ê Call System Configuration Utility and select the Startup menu.
Ê Set the TV out entry in the Display Device field to Enabled.
Ê Select a TV standard you want to use.
The default entry is PAL. The standard set must match the standard of your television set.
