Message to Parents for 5-Point Harness Mode Thank you for choosing the Fisher-Price® Grow-with-MeTM Car Seat. This car seat can be used in two different modes: 5-Point Harness for a child 20 - 40 lbs.; or Booster Car Seat (without harness) for a child 30 - 80 lbs. ALWAYS secure this car seat with your vehicle belt system exactly as described in this manual.
WARNING NEVER leave an unsecured car seat in your vehicle. If left unsecured, even when not occupied, the car seat could injure other occupants in a sudden stop or crash. NEVER dress your child in clothing that interferes with positioning the crotch strap between your child’s legs. If the crotch strap is not positioned between your child’s legs, your child could eject from the car seat in a crash. NEVER allow the shoulder straps to be loose around your child.
IMPORTANT! • Please read the entire side of this manual carefully before using the car seat in 5-Point Harness Mode. Keep this manual under the clip on the back of the car seat for easy reference. • This child restraint system conforms to all applicable Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards (FMVSS 213) and the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) J1819 for child restraint systems; and when used in 5-Point Harness Mode is certified for use in motor vehicles and aircraft.
IMPORTANT! • If your child weighs between 20 and 40 lbs., but cannot sit upright unassisted, please contact your physician to determine how best to use a car seat. • This car seat includes a locking clip (stored on the headrest) for use with a particular vehicle belt system. Only use the locking clip to install the car seat in 5-Point Harness Mode. Attach the locking clip to a vehicle lap and shoulder belt system with a sliding latch plate.

All About 5-Point Harness Mode (20-40 lbs.) Tether Strap: An additional belt anchoring car seat directly to your vehicle’s frame, reducing forward motion in an accident and significantly reducing the potential for injury. “Wing” Cushion: Provides extra support for your child. Chest Clip: Keeps harness shoulder belts in place to properly secure your child. Five-Point Harness: This up-front harness adjuster is easily accessible, with five anchorage points to safely restrain your child in the car seat.
What Kind of Vehicle Belt System Do You Have? WARNING ALWAYS secure this car seat with your vehicle belt system exactly as described in this manual. Refer also to your vehicle owner’s manual for specific information on your vehicle belt system and specific instructions on how to install a car seat in your vehicle. 10 5-Point Harness Mode 20-40 lbs.
What Kind of Vehicle Belt System Do You Have? There are many different types of vehicle belt systems. Some vehicle belt systems can never be used with this car seat in 5-Point Harness Mode. Read your vehicle’s owner’s manual and check to determine which type of vehicle belt system or systems you have in your vehicle. Many vehicles have more than one type of vehicle belt system. For example, you may find lap only belts in center seating locations and lap and shoulder belts in side seating locations.
NEVER USE These Vehicle Belt Systems NEVER USE Door Mounted Lap and Shoulder Belt Explanation – This lap and shoulder belt system is attached to the vehicle’s door and moves when the door is opened. This system will not keep the car seat secure. NEVER USE Motorized Shoulder Belt Explanation – The lap belts with these systems cannot be tightened for a firm fit. Also, the shoulder belt moves along a track and may become entangled with the car seat when the door is opened.
OK to USE These Vehicle Belt Systems ✔OK ✔OK Manual Lap Belt Explanation The lap belt is tightened by pulling the free end. 13 5-Point Harness Mode ✔OK Automatic Locking Retractor Lap Belt Explanation The lap belt slack retracts automatically and locks. It can be further tightened by pushing the belt in near the retractor. ✔OK Lap and Shoulder Belt with Sliding Latch Plate Explanation Pull the shoulder portion of the belt to tighten. The shoulder belt retracts automatically.
Selecting a Vehicle Seating Location for Your Car Seat IMPORTANT! Accident statistics show that children are safer when restrained properly in rear vehicle seating locations than in front seating locations. Only use the front seat when no acceptable rear seating location is available. If the front seating location is equipped with an airbag but must be used, adjust the vehicle seat as far back from the dashboard as possible.
Selecting a Vehicle Seating Location for Your Car Seat Front of Vehicle The rear seating locations are ALWAYS preferred. Front of Vehicle ALWAYS use vehicle seats that face the front of the vehicle. Front of Vehicle NEVER use vehicle seats that face the side of the vehicle. 15 5-Point Harness Mode NEVER use vehicle seats that face the rear of the vehicle. 20-40 lbs.
Tether Anchor Installation A tether strap is required only when using the car seat in 5-Point Harness Mode. Use of the tether strap is an effective way to reduce a child’s forward motion in the event of a crash. And, reducing forward motion improves your child’s safety! To use the tether strap, you must have a tether anchor in your vehicle. If your vehicle was manufactured in or after 1999, you may already have a factory installed tether anchor.
Tether Anchor Installation 3 2 2 2 1 1 3 1 2 and 4 Door Car 1 17 3 Van, Hatchback, Station Wagon or Sport Utility Pick-Up Truck Drill a 5/16" hole through solid metal. - For a 2 and 4 door car, make sure the hole is at least 8" away from the top and not more than 3" away from the center line of the car seat.
Tether Anchor Installation 2 Insert the bolt through the anchor and into the hole in your vehicle. 3 From inside your trunk or the outside or underside of your vehicle, attach the washer and lock nut to the end of the bolt. While holding the bolt tight with a wrench, tighten the lock nut securely with another wrench. 18 5-Point Harness Mode 20-40 lbs.
Assembly Push the rod clip down to unlock the rod on the back of the shell. 2 Slide only the harness shoulder straps off of the rod. DO NOT remove the tether strap from the rod. 1 DO NOT REMOVE TETHER STRAP 2 1 19 5-Point Harness Mode 20-40 lbs.
Assembly Push the rod clip up to lock the rod in place. 4 Make sure the tether strap is still looped onto the rod. 3 4 Note: When properly installed, the tether strap is through the slot behind the headrest; comes out through the slot in the groove of the shell; and is looped onto the rod. 20 5-Point Harness Mode 3 20-40 lbs.
Assembly 5 Squeeze the headrest release button and slide the headrest all the way up to the highest position. 5 21 5-Point Harness Mode 20-40 lbs.
Assembly 6 From the front of the car seat, press both release tabs on the “wing” support to remove it. 6 22 5-Point Harness Mode 20-40 lbs.
Assembly 7 Position the seat pad onto the shell so that the headrest is through the opening in the seat pad. 7 23 5-Point Harness Mode 20-40 lbs.
Assembly Lift the bottom of the seat pad and unbuckle the chest clip and harness. 9 Then, insert the seat pad’s elastic loops through the slots in the shell. 8 9 8 24 5-Point Harness Mode 20-40 lbs.
Assembly 10 Carefully fit the harness shoulder/ lap straps through the slots in the seat pad. Make sure the straps are not twisted. 10 25 5-Point Harness Mode 20-40 lbs.
Assembly 11 Tip the shell backwards. Attach pad’s elastic loops (that were inserted through the bottom of the shell) to the clip on each side of the seat pad. 11 26 5-Point Harness Mode 20-40 lbs.
Assembly 12 Reach under the seat pad and fit the crotch strap buckle up through the slot in the seat pad. 13 Insert the shoulder/lap strap latch plates into the crotch strap buckle. Make sure you hear a “click” for each latch plate. 13 12 27 5-Point Harness Mode 20-40 lbs.
Assembly 14 Fit the “wing” pads onto each end of the “wing” support. 15 Fit the elastic strap on the each “wing” pad into the groove on each side of the “wing” support. 14 15 28 5-Point Harness Mode 20-40 lbs.
Assembly 16 Insert and “snap” the tabs on the “wing” cushion up into the slots in the bottom of the headrest. 16 29 5-Point Harness Mode 20-40 lbs.
Assembly 17 Fit the headrest pad onto the headrest. 18 Insert the headrest pad’s elastic loops through the holes in the headrest. 17 18 30 5-Point Harness Mode 20-40 lbs.
Assembly 19 Attach the headrest pad’s elastic loops (that were inserted through the headrest) to the clip on each side of the headrest pad. 20 Make sure the harness shoulder/lap strap is through the clip on the back of the car seat and is NOT twisted. 19 20 31 5-Point Harness Mode 20-40 lbs.
Assembly 21 Squeeze the headrest release button and slide the headrest down so that the screws with washers line up with the rod. 22 Push the rod clip down to unlock the rod on the back of the shell. Let the rod hang from the shell, without allowing the tether strap from sliding off of it. 21 22 32 5-Point Harness Mode 20-40 lbs.
Assembly 23 From the front of the car seat, fasten the chest clip. 24 Insert the shoulder straps through the slots in the seat pad and shell. Make sure the shoulder straps are not twisted. 24 23 33 5-Point Harness Mode 20-40 lbs.
Assembly 25 Fit the harness shoulder straps on the rod. DO NOT remove the tether strap from the rod. 26 Fit the rod with shoulder straps and tether strap into the groove in the shell. Push the rod clip up to lock the rod in place. 25 26 34 5-Point Harness Mode 20-40 lbs.
Converting Modes 5-Point Harness (20-40 lbs.) If you have used this car seat in Booster Car Seat Mode, you will need to convert it to 5-Point Harness Mode.

Installing Your Car Seat in a Vehicle 1 2 3 4 Once you have selected an acceptable seating location (see pages 14-15), place the car seat on the vehicle seat firmly against the vehicle seat back. Fit the vehicle belt through the slot on the side of the car seat shell. Continue to route the vehicle belt behind the car seat shell. Pull the vehicle belt out through the slot on the opposite side of the car seat shell.

Installing Your Car Seat in a Vehicle 6A For a manual lap belt system: With the vehicle belt buckled, push down on the car seat with your knee and pull the free end of the vehicle belt for the tightest possible fit. 6A 39 5-Point Harness Mode 20-40 lbs.
Installing Your Car Seat in a Vehicle 6B For a lap and shoulder belt system: With the vehicle belt buckled, push down on the car seat with your knee and pull the shoulder belt for the tightest possible fit. 6B HINT Some vehicle belt systems have labels with instructions for use with car seats. Read the instructions on your vehicle’s belt or refer to your vehicle owner’s manual for specific instructions on how to tighten and lock your vehicle belt system. 40 5-Point Harness Mode 20-40 lbs.
Installing Your Car Seat in a Vehicle 7 Check to see if the lap portion of the vehicle lap and shoulder belt system loosens. Move the car seat from side to side. If you can loosen the lap portion of the lap and shoulder vehicle belt system, the lap portion probably does not have a locking mode and you will need a locking clip. (Included with your car seat.) If the lap portion of the lap and shoulder vehicle belt system does not loosen, please proceed to step 12, page 45.
Installing Your Car Seat in a Vehicle 8 After properly tightening the vehicle belt system, you may notice that your car seat has pushed down and forward on the vehicle seat. This is normal, and as long as the lap portion of the lap and shoulder belt system does not loosen, you can proceed to step 12, page 45. 8 42 5-Point Harness Mode 20-40 lbs.
Installing Your Car Seat in a Vehicle 9 To install the locking clip: Re-tighten the vehicle lap and shoulder belt system (see page 40). Hold the lap and shoulder belts together just behind the tongue and unbuckle the vehicle belt. Continue to hold the lap and shoulder belts together. 9 43 5-Point Harness Mode 20-40 lbs.
Installing Your Car Seat in a Vehicle 10 While holding the belts together, 2 1" tuck the edges of the vehicle belts under the arms of the locking clip. Make sure the locking clip is positioned approximately 1/2" from the sliding tongue. 11 While pushing down on the car seat with your knee, buckle the vehicle belt system. 10 44 5-Point Harness Mode 11 20-40 lbs.
Installing Your Car Seat in a Vehicle 12 Attach the tether strap hook to the tether anchor. 13 Pull the free end of the tether strap to tighten. 14 Fold or roll the excess tether strap and tuck it between the car seat and the vehicle seat. 12 13 14 Note: To remove the tether strap from the tether anchor, lift the tab on the adjuster to loosen the tether strap. Installing Your Car Seat in a Vehicle 15 Test your installation of the car seat again, this time by rocking the car seat forward and backward. You should NOT be able to pull the back of the car seat away from the vehicle seat more than one inch. Note: Regularly check to be sure your car seat installation is secure. PHOTO HD56 15 CORRECT IMPORTANT! If the lap belt continues to loosen after testing your installation, choose another vehicle seating location to install this car seat.
Securing Your Child 1 After installing the car seat in your vehicle, unfasten the chest clip. 2 Press the button on the crotch strap and remove the shoulder straps. 1 HINT The metal and plastic parts of the car seat may become very hot when exposed to the sun. When not in use, cover the car seat with a blanket if it will be exposed to the sun for prolonged periods of time. Before placing your child in the car seat, remove the blanket and check to be sure the metal and plastic parts are not too hot.
Securing Your Child Place your child in the car seat. Make sure your child’s lower back is against the car seat. This will allow you to position the car seat restraint around your child properly. 4 Position the shoulder straps over your child’s shoulders. Make sure the shoulder straps are not twisted. 5 Insert the shoulder strap latch plates into the crotch strap buckle. Securing Your Child 6 50 Adjust the height of the headrest and shoulder straps to your child: Squeeze the headrest release button and lift or lower the headrest. This will also raise or lower the shoulder straps. Align the shoulder strap slots at or just above the top of your child’s shoulders. 5-Point Harness Mode 6 20-40 lbs.
Securing Your Child 7 To tighten the shoulder straps: Pull the attached shoulder strap A up to remove slack. Then, pull the free end of the shoulder strap B down to tighten. If necessary, repeat this procedure to comfortably tighten the shoulder straps. To loosen the shoulder straps: Fit your finger through the loop and press the metal plate on the adjuster A . Securing Your Child 8 52 Fasten the chest clip. Slide the chest clip up so that it is level with your child’s underarm area; or up against the adjuster. 5-Point Harness Mode 8 20-40 lbs.
Securing Your Child 9 Check to be sure the shoulder straps are snug against your child. Pull the shoulder straps away from your child’s chest. They should not move more than one inch (two fingers) from your child’s chest. If the shoulder straps are too loose, tighten them (refer to page 51, step 7). 9 WARNING NEVER allow the shoulder straps to be loose around your child. If the shoulder straps are not snug against your child, your child will not be properly restrained.

Aircraft Use You can install this car seat in aircraft seats that face forward. Before bringing the car seat on board: • Notify the airline of your intent to bring this car seat. The airline may have restrictions regarding its use. • The width of the car seat is 17". You may need to lift an armrest out of the way to provide added room for the car seat. Check with the airline to be sure this car seat will fit in the aircraft seat.
Cleaning and Washing • Machine wash the seat pad, and headrest pad and “wing” support pads in cold water and mild detergent. Do not use bleach. Tumble dry on low heat. • To clean the 5-point harness, shell and “wing” support, use a mild cleaning agent and damp cloth. Rinse with clean water to remove soap residue. To remove the pads: • Tip the car seat backward and remove the seat pad’s elastic loops from the clips on each side of the car seat. Pull the seat pad off of the shell.

WARNING NEVER put anything on your vehicle seat (such as a cushion) to raise the car seat. This will create too much slack in the vehicle belt system. In a sudden stop or crash, a loose vehicle belt system will not be able to properly restrain your child. NEVER use the car seat after it is involved in a crash. A crash can cause damage to the booster car seat that you cannot see. NEVER allow the vehicle shoulder belt to be moved off of your child’s shoulder.
IMPORTANT! • USE ONLY a vehicle lap and shoulder belt system to restrain your child in this car seat when used in Booster Car Seat Mode. • The Grow-With-MeTM Car Seat in Booster Car Seat Mode is intended for use by children who weigh between 30 and 80 lbs. (14 and 36 kg) and are between 37 and 52 inches (94 and 132 cm) tall. If your child does not meet this criteria DO NOT use this car seat in this mode.
IMPORTANT! • This restraint, when used in Booster Car Seat Mode, is not certified for aircraft use. A booster car seat requires the use of a lap and shoulder belt system to restrain your child. Aircraft are not equipped with lap and shoulder belt systems. • DO NOT use the locking clip (included) when using this car seat in Booster Car Seat Mode.

All About Booster Car Seat Mode (30-80 lbs.) ADJUSTABLE HEADREST Squeeze the release button to raise or lower the headrest for your child’s comfort. SHOULDER BELT POSITIONER Attached to adjustable headrest to raise or lower the vehicle shoulder belt into the proper position to secure your child. LAP BELT POSITIONER Groove in car seat shell to help position the lap portion of the vehicle lap and shoulder belt system on your child’s lap, not abdomen.
Assembly If you have purchased this car seat and will be using it immediately in Booster Car Seat Mode, you will need to: assemble the pads to the headrest and seat; remove the 5-point harness; remove the rod; and remove the “wing” cushion. To assemble the seat pad, refer to pages 23 -26 in the 5-Point Harness Mode section and follow assembly steps 7, 9 and 11. To assemble the headrest pad, refer to pages 30 -31 in the 5-Point Harness Mode section and follow assembly steps 17 to 19.
Converting Modes Booster Car Seat (30-80 lbs.) 1 If you have used this car seat in 5-Point Harness Mode, you will need to convert it to Booster Car Seat Mode. Remove the rod from the shell. Lift the headrest pad and press the wing cushion tabs. Remove the “wing” cushion. Unbuckle the chest clip and 5-point harness. IMPORTANT! Feed the ends of the harness shoulder/lap strap Store all parts down through the slots in the pad and shell.

What Kind of Vehicle Belt System Do You Have? The illustrations on the next page show vehicle belt systems that can never be used with this car seat in the Booster Car Seat Mode. If you do not have a seating location with a usable lap and shoulder vehicle belt system, DO NOT use this car seat. Your vehicle manufacturer may be able to install a vehicle belt system that will be able to restrain your child properly in this car seat. NEVER alter your vehicle belt system yourself.

Selecting a Vehicle Seating Location for Your Car Seat IMPORTANT! Accident statistics show that children are safer when properly restrained in rear vehicle seating locations than in front seating locations. Only use the front seat when no acceptable rear seating location is available. If the front seating location is equipped with an airbag, but must be used, adjust the vehicle seat as far back from the dashboard as possible.

Restraining Your Child WARNING NEVER put anything on your vehicle seat (such as a cushion) to raise the car seat. This will create too much slack in the vehicle belt system. Installing Your Car Seat in a Vehicle 1 2 3 4 Once you have selected an acceptable seating location (see pages 14-15), place the car seat on the vehicle seat firmly against the vehicle seat back. Fit the vehicle belt through the slot on the side of the car seat shell. Continue to route the vehicle belt behind the car seat shell. Pull the vehicle belt out through the slot on the opposite side of the car seat shell.

Installing Your Car Seat in a Vehicle 6B For a lap and shoulder belt system: With the vehicle belt buckled, push down on the car seat with your knee and pull the shoulder belt for the tightest possible fit. 6B HINT Some vehicle belt systems have labels with instructions for use with car seats. Installing Your Car Seat in a Vehicle 7 Check to see if the lap portion of the vehicle lap and shoulder belt system loosens. Move the car seat from side to side. If you can loosen the lap portion of the lap and shoulder vehicle belt system, the lap portion probably does not have a locking mode and you will need a locking clip. (Included with your car seat.) If the lap portion of the lap and shoulder vehicle belt system does not loosen, please proceed to step 12, page 45.
Installing Your Car Seat in a Vehicle 8 After properly tightening the vehicle belt system, you may notice that your car seat has pushed down and forward on the vehicle seat. This is normal, and as long as the lap portion of the lap and shoulder belt system does not loosen, you can proceed to step 12, page 45. 8 42 5-Point Harness Mode 20-40 lbs.
Installing Your Car Seat in a Vehicle 9 To install the locking clip: Re-tighten the vehicle lap and shoulder belt system (see page 40). Hold the lap and shoulder belts together just behind the tongue and unbuckle the vehicle belt. Continue to hold the lap and shoulder belts together. 9 43 5-Point Harness Mode 20-40 lbs.
Installing Your Car Seat in a Vehicle 10 While holding the belts together, 2 1" tuck the edges of the vehicle belts under the arms of the locking clip. Make sure the locking clip is positioned approximately 1/2" from the sliding tongue. 11 While pushing down on the car seat with your knee, buckle the vehicle belt system. 10 44 5-Point Harness Mode 11 20-40 lbs.
Installing Your Car Seat in a Vehicle 12 Attach the tether strap hook to the tether anchor. 13 Pull the free end of the tether strap to tighten. 14 Fold or roll the excess tether strap and tuck it between the car seat and the vehicle seat. 12 13 14 Note: To remove the tether strap from the tether anchor, lift the tab on the adjuster to loosen the tether strap. Installing Your Car Seat in a Vehicle 15 Test your installation of the car seat again, this time by rocking the car seat forward and backward. You should NOT be able to pull the back of the car seat away from the vehicle seat more than one inch. Note: Regularly check to be sure your car seat installation is secure. Securing Your Child 1 After installing the car seat in your vehicle, unfasten the chest clip. 2 Press the button on the crotch strap and remove the shoulder straps. 1 HINT The metal and plastic parts of the car seat may become very hot when exposed to the sun. When not in use, cover the car seat with a blanket if it will be exposed to the sun for prolonged periods of time. Before placing your child in the car seat, remove the blanket and check to be sure the metal and plastic parts are not too hot.
Securing Your Child Place your child in the car seat. Make sure your child’s lower back is against the car seat. This will allow you to position the car seat restraint around your child properly. 4 Position the shoulder straps over your child’s shoulders. Make sure the shoulder straps are not twisted. 5 Insert the shoulder strap latch plates into the crotch strap buckle. Securing Your Child 6 50 Adjust the height of the headrest and shoulder straps to your child: Squeeze the headrest release button and lift or lower the headrest. This will also raise or lower the shoulder straps. Align the shoulder strap slots at or just above the top of your child’s shoulders. 5-Point Harness Mode 6 20-40 lbs.
Securing Your Child 7 To tighten the shoulder straps: Pull the attached shoulder strap A up to remove slack. Then, pull the free end of the shoulder strap B down to tighten. If necessary, repeat this procedure to comfortably tighten the shoulder straps. To loosen the shoulder straps: Fit your finger through the loop and press the metal plate on the adjuster A . Securing Your Child 9 Check to be sure the shoulder straps are snug against your child. Pull the shoulder straps away from your child’s chest. They should not move more than one inch (two fingers) from your child’s chest. If the shoulder straps are too loose, tighten them (refer to page 51, step 7). 9 WARNING NEVER allow the shoulder straps to be loose around your child. If the shoulder straps are not snug against your child, your child will not be properly restrained.

Aircraft Use You can install this car seat in aircraft seats that face forward. Before bringing the car seat on board: • Notify the airline of your intent to bring this car seat. The airline may have restrictions regarding its use. • The width of the car seat is 17". You may need to lift an armrest out of the way to provide added room for the car seat. Check with the airline to be sure this car seat will fit in the aircraft seat.
Cleaning and Washing • Machine wash the seat pad, and headrest pad and “wing” support pads in cold water and mild detergent. Do not use bleach. Tumble dry on low heat. • To clean the 5-point harness, shell and “wing” support, use a mild cleaning agent and damp cloth. Rinse with clean water to remove soap residue. To remove the pads: • Tip the car seat backward and remove the seat pad’s elastic loops from the clips on each side of the car seat. Pull the seat pad off of the shell.
