Installation Guide

NRP
®
and NRP-FR PANELS feature solid polymer construction. The front
side of most products is embossed to enhance durability. The rear surface
is treated to accept recommended water-based adhesives. NRP
®
standard panels are made with 100% PLAS-TEX
®
densified solid polymer.
NRP-FR panels feature a unique fire-rated composition.
FRP PANELS are made from high quality gelcoat over cured mineral-filled
polyester resin and random strand fiberglass matt.
ADHESIVES: Parkland™ Panel Adhesive and Spray-Lock aerosol
adhesive are strongly recommended with NRP
®
, NRP-FR & FRP installa-
tions. These instructions assume the use of these VOC-free materials.
Pay close attention to warnings regarding use of non-recommended
adhesives.
STORAGE AND CONDITION-
ING: Panels must be stored flat on
a smooth, dry surface. Before
installation, allow panels to come
to room temperature. Install
panels at the temperature typical
for the area after construction is
finished.
ALLOWING FOR MOVEMENT:
Panels expand and contract with
temperature changes. Space
panels 1/16” apart in all directions
as shown. Use FRP only for
structures subjected to extreme
temperature changes such as
trailer interiors.
SURFACE PREPARATION: Ensure that all walls and surfaces are flat,
clean, dry and solid. Remove all bumps, loose plaster, paint and dust. Fill
all low spots and voids. For use with recommended adhesives- seal all
walls and surfaces with primer and paint to improve surface integrity. For
non-recommended adhesives- use extreme caution and follow adhesive
manufacturer's instructions and test prior to use.
CUTTING & FITTING PANELS: NRP
®
panels can be scored and snapped
similar to drywall or cut with a utility knife or heavy-duty scissors. NRP and
FRP can be sawn, use a fine-toothed negative hook blade. Cut-outs, such
as for switches and inside corners should be drilled at the corners or cut
with a router to distribute stress- do not use a jigsaw for cutouts. Test the
panel fit by placing it in position without adhesive. Be careful to leave 1/16”
min. gap at all moldings, openings, fastener holes, terminations and panel
edges. Do not fit panels tightly. NRP panels contain no fiberglass irritant;
they may be handled safely with bare hands. For FRP panels, wear a dust
mask, gloves, and a long-sleeve shirt when handling.
SPRAY ADHESIVE APPLICATION: When using Spray-Lock adhesive,
follow directions on the can or our website. Be sure to allow adhesive to
tack prior to placement of panel on the wall. Mask areas not to be sprayed.
To re-position- pull the panel straight off the wall and re-apply. Roll
thoroughly with pressure roller to bond sheet into adhesive bed.
TROWEL ADHESIVE APPLICATION: For Sealed or non-porous
surfaces use Parkland Panel Adhesive and a 1/16” V- notched trowel, and
1/8” V-notched for porous surfaces. Apply Parkland Panel Adhesive
directly to the wall [except for concrete substrates- see note elsewhere in
this document]. Leave only ridges of adhesive. Roll panel thoroughly into
adhesive bed. Ensure panel moldings are fully bedded in adhesive.
Adhesive coverage (Parkland Panel Adhesive) is about 1/3 gallon per 4’ x
8’ panel with 1/16” trowel. Parkland Panel Adhesive and Spray-Lock
adhesive may be used over DensArmor Plus
®
and other non-porous,
primed, or painted surfaces with excellent results. Be sure to follow the
manufacturer’s instructions. For more information and videos on how
to install panels please visit our website.
PANEL MOLDINGS: Color-matched panel moldings are available for
most panels. They can be trimmed to size with a utility knife or metal
shears. Allow at least 1/16” in all directions for panel expansion.
ARCHITECTURAL MOLDINGS: EcoTUFF™ base, chair and crown
protective moldings can be secured with a minimum of two 2-1/2 # 10
screws spaced every 24” max., run through wall panels and a minimum of
1-1/2” into studs or blocking behind. Pre-drill all screw locations with a
3/16" pilot bit, and countersink with a 7/16" countersink bit.
CONCRETE SUBSTRATES: Use a 3/16” x 1/4” square-notched trowel to
apply Parkland Panel adhesive directly to the sheet back; be sure
moldings are bedded in adhesive. Apply sheet to wall per remaining
instructions.
FIXTURE INSTALLATION: Allow adhesive to set minimum 24 hours, until
panels are firmly bonded to wall prior to fixture installation.
SEALING NRP
®
PANELS: For a water-tight installation, a continuous
bead of Parkland EcoTUFF™ sealant must be run in all molding channels,
seams, and along all edges. Remove excess sealant per instructions
below.
CLEANING NRP
®
: After installation panels may be cleaned with
non-abrasive cleaners or soaps. For removing excess sealant or difficult
stains use Bostik
®
Hand Towel and Specialty Adhesive Remover. Parkland
Back Labels can be soaked off with penetrating oil such as WD-40.
PIN RIVETS: Panels can be installed using plastic pin rivets to further
secure panels to walls. Panels properly installed with Parkland Panel
Adhesive or Spray-Lock do not require mechanical fasteners. Pre-drill all
holes 1/8” oversize in the panel and check that panels & moldings are fully
bedded in adhesive, and then fasten pin rivets to wall. Approved patterns
are every 16” o.c., in one direction, both directions, or along one panel
edge.
