Installation Instructions:
1. Valve Identification: Before removing the old trim, determine the valve
configuration type. Make note of how you turn the water ON:
Handle rotates right to left, counter-clockwise: Type A- Posi-Temp
®
.
Pull the Handle: Type B- Moentrol
®
.
NOTE: If your valve has a diverter (see Valve Type B with diverter),
you must use the clear, plastic Handle. For Valve Type B, make note of screw
hole placement: 2 and 7 o-clock position OR 5 and 7 o’clock position.
Before removing old Trim: Shut off water supply to the shower faucet.
Once
the water supply is shut off, turn the shower faucet on, to release water
pressure; then turn the shower faucet off.
2. Remove old Trim: Remove the index button from center of the handle to
expose the screw and remove handle. Remove the screws from the
Faceplate (Escutcheon) to uninstall. Remove Sleeve from valve by sliding off.
3. Install new Sleeve and Faceplate based on identified Valve Type.
3a. Install new Sleeve by sliding over valve.
Valve Type A uses the larger diameter Sleeve. Valve Type B uses the smaller
diameter Sleeve. (See photo.)
3b. Locate new Faceplate in this Kit. If the valve uses a diverter, remove
the O-Ring and diverter plug from the Faceplate.
3c. Remove the backing of the Foam Insert of the Faceplate and place over
the diverter. If the diverter isn't needed, don't remove the diverter plug and
O-ring from the Faceplate.
3d. Select the correct Faceplate Insert:
Valve type A uses the Faceplate Insert with larger opening.
Valve Type B uses the smaller Faceplate Insert, with smaller inner opening
and Sleeve. (There are 2 Insert options for Type B. Select Insert with the
correct screw hole placement. See photo.) Remove the backing paper from
the Foam Insert and attach to correct Faceplate Insert. Firmly press
Faceplate Insert (with attached Foam Insert) into Faceplate.
3e. Install new Faceplate: Insert Faceplate Gasket into Faceplate. Slide over
the Sleeve, making sure diverter hole is centered on bottom.
Secure the Faceplate to the valve body (with included Screws).
4. Install new Handle Adapter and Handle based on identified Valve Type.
Select the correct Handle Adapter (see photos, Back of Adapter, to identify
the correct Adapter). Slide Stem Washer over Stem.
Valve Type A: Requires Bushing to be installed.
Insert Stop into Bushing, then insert Bushing into Sleeve.
Valve Type B: Does not require Bushing to be installed (see photos).
Determine Handle to be used. (Note: Metal Handles do not work with valves
that include a diverter.)
For Metal Handle: Place Handle Adapter over Stem, secure with Screw.
Place Handle over Adapter, facing downward. Secure with Hex Screw using
an Allen Wrench.
For Plastic (or Acrylic) Handle: Remove Plastic Adapter from inside Handle
(for Valve Type A only. Valve Type B: Do not remove Plastic Adapter.)
Place Handle over Stem, pointing downward. Secure with Lock Washer
and Screw. Press Index Button into Handle.
