About the Remote Control Congratulations on the purchase of your ListenClear hearing aids. This remote control allows you to control your hearing aids quickly and easily, with easy-to-use buttons that fit your hand comfortably. Using the remote control, you can: Change the volume level in your hearing aids Change the program in your hearing aids. Instantly return your hearing aids to their “Home” state (Program A at mid-level volume).
Getting started The remote control uses a single AAA battery for power, which should last for at least two months with normal use. Alkaline batteries are recommended, although NiMH rechargeable batteries can be used as well. Slide the battery door off from the back of the device, and insert the battery as indicated by the icon in the bottom of the battery compartment. The battery can only be inserted one way – if the battery is inserted backwards, the remote control will not operate.
Using the Remote Control Please refer to the diagram on page 7 for locations of the various controls. Turn on the remote control by sliding the Power Switch upwards (located on the side of the device). The LED will light briefly, to indicate that the remote control is ready for use. Please see page 8 for detailed descriptions of each control.

Volume Up (+) A brief press increases the volume in your hearing aids by one step. The LED lights briefly. Volume Down (-) A brief press decreases the volume in your hearing aids by one step. The LED lights briefly. Tip: Pressing and holding either of the volume buttons rapidly increases or decreases the volume in your hearing aids. Program (P) A brief press changes the program in your hearing aids. The LED lights briefly.
Home ( ) A brief press instantly reverts your hearing aids to program A at midlevel volume. The LED lights briefly. Tip: Pressing and holding the Home button for 5 seconds places the remote control into pairing mode (see below) Tip: The remote control works best when oriented so that you are looking directly at the front of the device. Holding the device off to one side may yield unreliable results.
Pairing the Remote Control to your hearing aids When first powered up after purchase, the remote control will enter pairing mode automatically, indicated by a rapid double-flashing of the LED. The pairing process will remain active for 15 seconds, or until pairing completes. While the LED is flashing, bring at least one of your hearing aids very close to the remote control. The doubleflashing will stop as soon as the pairing process completes.
LED indications The LED lights briefly when a button is pressed, to indicate that the remote is functioning properly. When the battery gets low, the LED will flash three times on every button press. While the battery is low, the remote will continue to function. When the battery gets too low for normal operation, the LED will flash rapidly six times on every button press. Once in this state, remote control commands will no longer be sent to your hearing aids. Replace the battery to restore normal operation.
Maintenance and care Do not use the remote control in the bath or shower, or immerse it in water. If the remote becomes wet, do not attempt to dry it in an oven or microwave. Do not adjust any controls, and allow the remote to air dry for 24 hours. Protect the remote control from excessive heat (hair dryer, vehicle glove box or dashboard, and so on). Do not drop the remote control or knock it against hard surfaces. Clean the remote control with a dry or damp cloth.
Safety guidelines and warnings The remote control is not a toy. It should be kept out of the reach of children and anyone else who might swallow parts or otherwise cause injury to themselves. Pay special attention to the smaller components to prevent children from swallowing them and choking. The remote control uses a low-power, digitally-coded inductive transmission to communicate with your hearing aids. Although unlikely, interference with medical devices (such as pacemakers) is possible.
Do not use the remote control in locations where use of electronic devices is forbidden, such as an aircraft. Store your remote control in a safe location for CT and MRI scans, or for other electromagnetic procedures. Your remote control has no user-serviceable parts inside and opening the device will void the manufacturer warranty. Bring your remote control to your hearing healthcare professional if service is required.
Troubleshooting The remote control will not turn on The battery might be depleted, or has been inserted backwards. Replace and/or reorient the battery and try again. The LED flashes several times every time I press a button The battery is getting low. If the LED flashes three times, the battery is low, but the remote control will still function. If the LED flashes six times, the battery is too low for normal operation, and the remote control will not function. Replace the battery and try again.
My hearing aids don’t always respond to the remote control The remote control may not work if held/angled to the side of your body, and your head is not turned to face it. Try facing the remote control when you press a button.
