EMS SATCOM SYSTEM DESCRIPTION, INSTALLATION, AND MAINTENANCE MANUAL eNfusion™ HSD-400 High-speed Data Terminal SYSTEM DESCRIPTION The HSD-400 terminal is a scalable, high-speed data, satellite communications terminal. It interfaces with an ARINC 741 compatible antenna subsystem to provide a high-speed data communication link with the Inmarsat satellite network. This section includes basic information about the HSD-400 terminal, including the following sections: 1.
EMS SATCOM SYSTEM DESCRIPTION, INSTALLATION, AND MAINTENANCE MANUAL eNfusion™ HSD-400 High-speed Data Terminal To use the SBB service, the HSD-400 terminal obtains subscriber information from two SIM cards installed in the SCM. Each SIM card slot in the SCM is associated with a specific channel card—the slot next to the SCM connector is for channel card one, the third slot is for channel card two.

Electrical Description The Installation section of this manual describes all ARINC 600 connector contact assignments and physical details, including part numbers, insert descriptions, and polarization keying. The loading/gradient specifications for all HSD-400 terminal installations are provided in table format in the Installation section of this manual.
EMS SATCOM SYSTEM DESCRIPTION, INSTALLATION, AND MAINTENANCE MANUAL eNfusion™ HSD-400 High-speed Data Terminal The ISN consists of the type approval number and the FWD ID address. Each FID is associated with Inmarsat Mobile Numbers (IMN), which are the numbers that a user dials from the ground to reach the terminal on an aircraft. There is a unique IMN for each of the service types (e.g. data, voice). ISNs are available from EMS SATCOM.
EMS SATCOM SYSTEM DESCRIPTION, INSTALLATION, AND MAINTENANCE MANUAL eNfusion™ HSD-400 High-speed Data Terminal F. Antenna Subsystem RF Interface The system RF parameters, such as cable losses and antenna gain, are defined to ensure that the HSD-400 terminal performance requirements are met. Refer to the Installation section of this manual for a definition of these parameters and their expected values. G.
EMS SATCOM SYSTEM DESCRIPTION, INSTALLATION, AND MAINTENANCE MANUAL eNfusion™ HSD-400 High-speed Data Terminal The most likely user configurations include a networking device such as a router that allows multiple users to optimize and share the channel capability offered by the HSD-400 terminal. The selected networking device must have the capability to decide which combination of services is required at any particular moment and activate it accordingly.
EMS SATCOM SYSTEM DESCRIPTION, INSTALLATION, AND MAINTENANCE MANUAL eNfusion™ HSD-400 High-speed Data Terminal Figure 1-1. ISDN Connection Options C. RS-232 Interface The simplest configuration, using the RS-232 interface, allows users to connect directly to the HSD-400 terminal without any kind of networking device (i.e. router or file server).
EMS SATCOM SYSTEM DESCRIPTION, INSTALLATION, AND MAINTENANCE MANUAL eNfusion™ HSD-400 High-speed Data Terminal Note: An HSD-400 terminal with a Data I/O Card Type 3 uses one S/T Bus “device connection” for system use. Install RJ-45 interface connectors in the cabin area to facilitate connection to the Ethernet interface. Refer to the Installation section of this manual for a description of the RJ-45 connector and cable termination. F.
EMS SATCOM SYSTEM DESCRIPTION, INSTALLATION, AND MAINTENANCE MANUAL eNfusion™ HSD-400 High-speed Data Terminal 10. Modes of Operation HSD-400 terminals may be installed as Stand-Alone systems. The following system configuration modes are possible: A. Channel Card Configurations Each channel card supports two channels, for a total of four channels. Each HSD-400 terminal channel works either independently or bonded to provide up to a 256 kbps data-link to the Inmarsat Communications Network.
