In order to quickly familiarise yourself with your new mobile telephone we have compiled the present information over a few pages. 1.3 INSERT THE SIM CARD LIKE THIS A SIM card is needed for phoning. It is inserted this way: D Turn around the closed mobile phone, slide the battery cover down with your thumb approx. 5mm and then take it off. (Picture 1) D Take out the battery (providing it is already in the device). Raise and lift or pull out the lower corners. 1.5 HOW TO CHARGE THE BATTERY Picture 5 Please note: Charge the battery for at least 4 hours before the first phone call. D Put the mains plug into a mains socket. D Put the recharger cable connector into the jack at the top end of the mobile phone. (Bild 5) D During the charging process, a large battery symbol and charging will be indicated on the mobile phone.
1.7 SWITCH OFF PIN-CODE To avoid problems later on through forgetting the PIN-Code, we recommend that the PIN query is switched off. (However, this is not possible with some network operators.) D With the sliding cover open, access Settings in the menu with and select with . Access the PIN query menu item by pressing several times and selecting with Select Off with . (In case the Off option is not already darkly shaded, access it by pressing ). The 4-digit PIN-Code will now be requested again.
2 GET TO KNOW YOUR MOBILE PHONE IN 10 MINUTES 2.1 DO NOT WORRY IF YOU GET LOST IN THE MENU D Whenever you get carried away in the menu, simply close the sliding cover of the mobile phone. By doing this you will see the familiar view again on the screen! (=Stand-by mode) D By pressing D If the mobile phone is not used for over two minutes, the screen switches itslef off. The mobile phone is now in economy mode but still ready to receive.
2.5 REPEAT SELECTION D Slide the cover open to at least 15 mm, keep D Call the number that was dialled last with rufen. 3 20 MINUTES FOR USEFUL DETAILS 3.1 SMALL MENU – SLIDING COVER CLOSED With the sliding cover closed, alphabetically sorted phone book entries are legible in the display (in case already saved). Page up to the Small Menu with . ■ 3.1.1 Numbers dialled If this menu item is darkly shaded, the last number dialled will be displayed. With , the list of recently dialled numbers appears with date and time stamp of the individual callers.
■ 3.1.4 Received SMS’s If this menu item is darkly shaded, the number of newly received SMS’s (= text messages) is displayed. With , the list of SMS’s received appears. Each SMS is displayed with a number or name (as long as they are saved in the phone book) as well as the date and time stamp. If an SMS is indicated with an “N”, it is “New” and therefore unread D Select the desired SMS with . D Press , to read the SMS. D Page down the text with mands). (See chapter 4.
■ 3.2.2 Set or alter alarm time D Move the -slide upwards. Should the alarm clock already be switched on, slide ( -slide upwards), briefly down and back up again. The entry field for the alarm time appears on the screen. D Set the hours with two digits (e.g “07” fo 7AM) via the keypad or with and save with . D Set the minutes with two digits (e.g “07” fo 7AM) via the keypad or with and save with . D After a confirmation report, the mobile phone returns to stand-by mode.
3.3 KEY LOCK To avoid unintentional pressing of the keys (e.g. in your pocket), you can lock the keys. D If the -slide on the left of the mobile phone is moved upwards, the key lock is switched on. A large key symbol will be indicated in the display. D If the mobile phone is slid open, all of the buttons are accessible again. If the phone is closed again, the keys will be locked again. D To switch off the key lock, move the -slide down again.
3.4 FAVOURITES In Favourites, individually arrange the menu items that you want to use the most (without paging down too far in the main menu, e. g. Ring tone on/off, Calculator, Name search, etc.). Activation is only necessary once in order to make favourites visible when the cover is closed. ■ 3.4.1 Activate Favourites button D With the sliding cover open, access Settings with D Access Favourites with and select with D To switch on this function, select On with and select with . .
4 30 MINUTES FOR PROFESSIONALS 4.1 SMS TEXT MESSAGES An SMS (Short Message Service) is a short written message which can be sent to all mobile phone users. Costs are only incurred when sending the SMS. Note: Some landline telephones can also receive SMS messages. 4.1.1 SMS Service Center number The central number of the network operator through which all short messages are developed.

When you find your preferred additional character, press to insert it into the text.
■ 4.1.3 Sending an SMS D Send a completed text with D Select Send with . D Continue. Depending on whether the telephone number of the receiver already appears in the moble phone, follow the various procedures: D Telephone number already in phone book: Select phone book by pressing twice: Access names with or enter the initials of the name with the keypad. As soon as the preferred number appears shaded in dark, confirm it with . A final sends your SMS.
■ 4.1.6 Deleting an SMS Because a full SMS memory blocks the receipt of an SMS, it must be deleted sometimes. D Open the sliding cover and then select the SMS message with . D Delete the SMS with and select with . Now either delete the whole range of SMS’s by deleting the entire SMS memory or just certain ones, e.g. only access SMS’s with and select with . Confirm response to the repeated question Delete all received SMS‘s? by pressing .
■ 4.1.8 Send phone book entry by SMS If the recipient of this SMS also uses an emporia LifePLUS, the entry will automatically be saved in the recipient’s phone book. D Select SMS messages with . D Send 3 times to Entry per SMS, select with . D Access the phone book entry to be sent with and select with . D Enter phone number or name search to the recipient who was sent the phone book entry and confirm with . 4.
■ 4.2.2 Change phone book entry D Open the sliding cover and access Phone Book with and select with and select with . D Access New Entry with . D Access the phone book entry to be changed with keypad and select with . D If necessary, correct the names with the aid of the numerical keypad or to delete characters press . ■ 4.2.4 The most important numbers In order to quickly dial the most frequent or most important numbers with the sliding cover closed, use the “Top 10” setting. This ranks your Top 10 numbers at the beginning of the phone book so that they can be quickly accessed with when the sliding cover is closed. D Open the sliding cover and access Phone Book with and select with .
4.3 EMERGENCY CALL The emergency function is a simple function which can save lives at the deciding moment. In all, you can save 5 emergency numbers (relatives, neighbours, friends, rescue). These numbers, previously saved in order of sequence, will be automatically dialed in an emergency by pressing the emergency button on the back of the mobile phone.
■ 4.3.2 What do you do in an emergency? D Press the emergency button on the back of the mobile phone, either for 3 seconds or 3 times in 3 seconds. (The emergency button also functions when the key lock is active.) D If you want to stop or cancel the emergency call, press for 3 seconds. ■ 4.3.3 What happens after pressing the emergency button?? D By pressing the emergency button, the emergency numbers you have previously saved will be automatically dialled in the given sequence.
D When changing a phone card: Always make sure that there is sufficient credit on you phone card because private emergency numbers cannot be dialled without sufficient credit. D As a rule, the international emergency call 112 can still be called outside of the regional network of your network operator. Attention: If you want to save emergency numbers such as the ambulance service, the police, fire brigade etc. as an emergency number, you must gain permission from each of these institutions beforehand.
■ 4.4.2 Header shows network operators or time & symbols In Settings you can choose whether you see the network operator or the time and symbols in the header (Ring out, Forward call, Alarm) Closed cover. ■ 4.4.8 Answer machine number If you press the button for 3 seconds, you will be automatically connected to your answer machine. Should this number still not be saved to your device or SIM card, you will be requested to give this number. If you do not know this number, ring your network operator’s free of charge hotline. 5 GENERAL INFORMATION SAFETY INFORMATION: D Switch of the mobile phone in hospitals or near to medical equipments. D A minimum distance of 20 cm should be kept between a pacemaker and a telephone that is switched on. Never keep the mobile phone in your breast pocket. When phoning, hold the phone to the ear which is furthest away from the pacemaker. If you suspect that it may disturb the pacemaker switch off the mobile phone immediately.
DISPOSAL: D Battery disposal: Rechargeable and ordinary batteries are not to be placed in household rubbish! As a consumer you are legally obliged to return used rechargeable and normal batteries. You can do this at your local authority’s collection site or at a specialist shop. D Disposal of your device: If your product can no longer be used do not throw it into the household rubbish.
q How long can you use it before having to recharge again? The operating time depends, amongst other things, on the distance to the transmitter (are you far away from the transmitter, does the mobile phone need substantially more energy to maintain contact), on the number of calls made and set volume. Charging batteries to a fully loaded state is sufficient enough under optimal conditions to enable a conversation length of up to 3 hours. On stand-by mode, a maximum 250 hours operating time can be achieved.
q Is it possible to withhold a call number? In case you do not want to display your own mobile phone number to your interlocutor, select “YES” from the large menu under settings / withhold call number. q A key symbol is displayed and the telephone does not react / the telephone is immediately cut off The key lock is switched on. Move the slide on the left hand side of the mobile phone downwards to disable the lock. (See chapter 3.3).
