I Smart Plug and EdiSmart App SP-1101W V2 and SP-2101W V2 are Wi-Fi smart plugs that are mostly managed by a powerful application tool from Edimax Technology. Once the smart plug is connected to the internet, the accompanying app can control and manage its functions such as turning it on / off, scheduling and budget control. The app’s functions are the same for iOS and Android, with a few minor cosmetic differences due to the nature of the two Operation Systems (OS).

I-1-5 Reset If you experience problems with your smart plug, or you want to connect the smart plug to a different Edimax app account, you can reset the plug back to its factory default settings. This resets all settings back to the default settings. 1. Press and hold the reset button found on the front of the plug. 2. Release the button (after ~10 seconds) when the network LED is flashing quickly in red. 3. Wait for the smart plug to restart.
I-1-6 Hardware Installation Follow the instructions below to ensure your smart plug is properly connected and ready for setup. Please only set up one smart plug at a time. 1. Plug the smart plug into a power socket. 2. Press and hold the reset button (for ~10 seconds) on the plug until the network LED starts flashing quickly in red and let go.
3. Wait a few moments for the smart plug to start up. The smart plug is ready for setup when the network LED is flashing slowly in red to indicate installation mode. 4. When smart plug is in installation mode, please continue to I-2 EdiSmart App Setup to set up your smart plug using the free EdiSmart app.
I-2 EdiSmart App Setup To allow remote access to your smart plug, please use the EdiSmart app. After setup, you can use the EdiSmart app to switch your smart plug on/off remotely from any compatible mobile device with an Internet connection, as well as set up automated schedules and email notifications. Please go to the setup instructions suitable for your mobile device (iOS or Android OS).
I-2-1 I-2-1-1 1. Apple iOS EdiSmart Account Sign-Up Search and download “EdiSmart” in Apple App Store. 2. 3. Open the EdiSmart app. 4. Enter an email, password, and confirm the password in the blank fields shown. 5. Tap “Login” (outlined in red) to submit and login to your EdiSmart account. Select “Sign up” (outlined in red) to sign up for an EdiSmart account The app will direct you to a setup tutorial. Go through the tutorial or press the icon to quit the tutorial.
I-2-1-2 Connecting the Smart Plug For EdiSmart app to control the Smart Plug, it must be connected to a Wi-Fi network with internet connectivity. To do so, follow the steps below: If you have not reset your smart plug, please do that now! Press and hold the Reset Button (for ~10 seconds) until the network LED starts flashing quickly in red and let go. Please bring the smart plug within the Wi-Fi range of a Wi-Fi router that has internet connectivity. 1. On your iOS device, go to Settings. 2.
Firmware Upgrade After selecting the icon, EdiSmart app will identify the current firmware version of your smart plug and prompt you to upgrade it to the newest firmware version if available. Tap “OK” to upgrade your firmware. After firmware upgrade, please press and hold the Reset Button (for ~10 seconds) on the Smart Plug until the network LED starts flashing quickly in red and go back to Step 1 to continue setup. If you have decided to integrate your smart plug to the EdiSmart app, other apps (e.g.
5. Select a Wi-Fi network (e.g. your home’s Wi-Fi router) from the Wi-Fi list. 6. Enter the network’s password and press “OK” to continue. The app will connect the smart plug to the Wi-Fi router, please wait patiently. 7. After the smart plug is connected to your Wi-Fi, the app will ask you to enter a name for the device. Enter a name where you will likely use the smart plug for. For example, office desktop light, bedside lamp, etc.
8. Congratulations! The smart plug is ready to be used. The smart plug’s network LED should be on in green color to indicate a successful network and cloud connection. You can now control your smart plug from the EdiSmart home screen. Tap the switch to switch your smart plug (and any electrical device you plug into it) on or off.
I-2-2 I-2-2-1 1. Android OS EdiSmart Account Sign-Up Search and download “EdiSmart” in Google Play. 2. 3. Open the EdiSmart app. 4. A message will be shown indicating that it is connecting to the smart plug. Firmware Upgrade When the EdiSmart app is connecting to the smart plug, the app will identify the current firmware version of your smart plug and prompt you to upgrade it to the newest firmware version if available. Tap “Yes” to upgrade your firmware.

I-2-3 General Information When you open the EdiSmart app, existing smart plugs are displayed in a list as shown below: 1 2 3 4 1. To view app info, tap the icon and refer to I-3 Info Page. 2. To add additional smart plugs, tap the icon and refer to I-2-1-2 or I-2-2-2. 3. To view a smart plug’s power meter information (SP2101W V2 only), tap the name of your smart plug in the list and refer to I-4-1 Power Meter Page (SP2101W V2 only). 4. To turn smart plug on or off, tap the 17 icon.
While you are using the app, you can tap on the icon anytime you see the icons at the top of the screen to go back to the previous page.

I-4 Dashboard The dashboard of the EdiSmart app will display all the devices you have learnt and quick on / off option of the devices as shown in the picture below: Quick On / Off options Devices Tapping any of the devices will take you to their viewing / editing page as shown below: Selecting SP1101W V2 smart plug device will take you to the Device Settings page Selecting SP2101W V2 smart plug device will take you to its power meter page 22
I-4-1 Power Meter Page (SP2101W V2 only) Tap any of the three icons at the bottom to browse view information about your smart plug: Now, Usage and Schedule. Displays how many Watts your smart plug is currently using, along with an icon (happier face = lower Watts) Displays how many Amps your smart plug is currently using. Click any category for more information.
I-4-1-1 Now The “Now” screen provides a summary of the smart plug’s current usage in Amps (A) and Watts (W) as well as the total power used during the last day, week and month. The time and date your smart plug was switched on. Usage in kWh today, this week and this month.
I-4-1-2 Usage The “Usage” screen displays a graph of your smart plug’s power usage with kWh (kilowatts per hour) against time, or currency (represented by a dollar icon) against time.
You can adjust the time displayed by tapping the arrow icon on the top right hand corner.
You can adjust between kWh and $ by tapping the icon in the top right corner and entering the price per kWh. Check with your electricity provider if you are unsure of the price.
I-4-1-3 Schedule The “Schedule” screen displays a summary of your smart plug’s existing schedules and allows you to set new or edit existing schedules. You can set multiple schedules for each day. If you are using the smart plug’s scheduling function, you also need to set the correct time and date for your smart plug in “Device Settings Advance”. Refer to I-5-6 Advance if you need help.
A. Tap the arrow icon to the right of any day you wish to set a schedule. B. Tap the switch icon to enable / disable scheduling for that day. C. Tap “Add New Schedule” to add a new schedule. D. Enter a start time (From) and end time (To) for the schedule. This is the time which your smart plug will be on. Tap the tick icon to save the schedule. E. Use the switch icon to switch individual schedules on or off, or switch all schedules for that day on or off. F.
I-5 Device Settings You can quickly configure your smart plug’s settings on Device Settings page. Select a category and refer to the following chapters for more information. For SP1101W V2, tapping the smart plug from the list will direct you to the Device Settings page: For SP2101W V2, to go to your Device Settings page, firstly tap the smart plug from the list, where you will be directed to the Power Meter page, and tap the icon.
I-5-1 Name You can edit the name used to identify the smart plug in the EdiSmart app. Tap on the name section and the app will prompt you to edit the name. Enter a new name and click “Ok” to confirm. If you are using multiple smart plugs, it is recommended that you name each plug for easy reference, e.g. Living room lamp, bedroom fan..etc. I-5-2 Schedule Please refer to I-4-1-3 Schedule.
I-5-3 Budget Control (SP2101W V2 Only) Your smart plug includes a helpful budget control feature which allows you to regulate the amount of power which a smart plug uses per day, per week or per month. You can set the limit in kWh or you can enter the cost of your electricity per kWh and set the limit in monetary value e.g. $10 per month. When the power usage reaches the limit, your smart plug will switch off automatically.
I-5-3-1 Daily, Weekly & Monthly Control Choose whether to set your limits in kWh (kilowatt hours) or use a monetary value by tapping the icon on the top right corner. By default, your smart plug is set to use kWh. You can enter daily, weekly or monthly limits. The switch icon can be selected to switch this limit on or off. When a limit is active and your smart plug exceeds the limit, it will automatically switch off.
When your smart plug exceeds the set limit, the app can be configured to send out notifications. When tapped, the app will ask you to select one of “Off”, “Email”, “Push” and “Push + Email” notifications (or “Cancel” to not select any), as shown below: Tap the icon to save the configuration. If you choose to set your limit using a monetary value ($) you will be prompted to enter the cost of your electricity per kWh. Refer to I-5-3-3 Power Prices for more help.
I-5-3-2 Current Usage Control Your smart plug can be set to switch off anytime the power or current used by its connected appliance exceeds a specified limit (in Watts or Amps, respectively). Enter the limit in the box and tap to save.
I-5-3-3 Power Prices To set daily, monthly or weekly usage limits in units of your currency (represented by a $ icon), you first need to enter the cost of your electricity per kWh. The smart plug can then calculate the cost according to its power usage and adhere to your set limits. Enter the cost per kWh and click “Ok” to save. Then you can set a limit for your smart plug e.g. $10 per month to enable you to track and manage your electricity costs more effectively.
I-5-4 Push Notification Your smart plug can provide helpful notifications for different events such as exceeding a set limit or being switched on or off. The smart plug can also send a useful daily, weekly or monthly report consisting of information about the plug’s usage. Setup push notification to obtain the information mentioned above. A push notification is a message that pops up on a mobile device where users do not have to be in the app or using their devices to receive them.
B. (SP2101W V2 Only) Daily, Weekly and Monthly usage alarm will be sent you when this option is turned on. C. The app can be configured to send notifications of smart plug being reconnected to the internet by tapping the icon of the “Reconnect to Internet Notifications” option. D. (SP2101W V2 Only) The “Continuous working over ___ Minutes” option can be utilized for the user to know if the device has been operational for the past number of minutes / hours. Enter a number (e.g.

I-5-5 Email Account Setup Email Account notifications to receive the same information as shown in I-5-4 Push Notification. To use email notifications, you need to configure an email address to send and receive the mail.
Gmail, Yahoo! and Outlook Gmail, Yahoo! and Outlook email services have pre-configured settings to help facilitate the setup process. We will use Gmail as an example here: 1. Enter the email address in the “Email” space. 2. Enter the password of your email address service in the password space. Password can be shown while entering if you turn “Show password” option on. 3. Send a test email by selecting the “Send a Test Email” option to check if your configuration is operational.
Manual Settings If you wish to use other email services, please select “Manual Settings” with further options as shown below: Follow the table below to enter the information required to setup the email service: SMTP Server SMTP Port Recipient Email Sender Email SSL/TLS Input the host name or IP address of the SMTP server for the email sender. This information can be provided by your email service provider. Input the SMTP port number for the email sender.
Enable this option authentication. when your SMTP server requires SMTP Authentication Account Password = Enable; = Disable This information can be provided by your email service provider. Input the SMTP account name when your SMTP server requires authentication. This information can be provided by your email service provider. Input the password used for SMTP server authentication. Password can be shown while entering if you turn “Show password” option on.
Below are the available options: A. For power switch related email notifications, keep “Switch action alarm” option on. If this is turned off, no notifications will be sent. B. (SP2101W V2 Only) Daily, Weekly and Monthly usage alarm can be configured by turning the option on. If the usage limit has not been set, enter a limit in the space exemplified below: C. (SP2101W V2 Only) The app can be configured to send daily, weekly or monthly usage report by turning their respective options on.
D. The app can be configured to send notifications of smart plug being reconnected to the internet by selecting the icon of the “Reconnect to Internet Notifications” option.
Send a Test Email The smart plug can send a test email to check everything is set up correctly. If you don’t receive the email, or if any error message is displayed, please check your settings again. If the problem persists, please go to the settings of your mail service provider and turn on the “Allow Less Secure Apps” option.

I-5-6 Advance On the “Advance” page, you can configure “Date & Time”, “check the latest firmware”, “Reset to Default”, or go to “FAQ” to get more information. I-5-6-1 Date & Time On the “Date & Time” page, you can select to turn on or turn off “Daylight Saving” option. You can also tap “Synchronize to phone time” to synchronize the smart plug to your mobile device’s time setting.
I-5-6-2 Check the latest firmware To check and (if available) update the smart device’s firmware version, tap the “Check” button: If a new version is available, the app will ask if you would like to update it: Select “OK” to update.
I-5-6-3 Reset You can reset your smart plug back to its factory default settings. This will reset all settings including scheduling, email notifications and time settings. Click “Reset to Default” from the “Plug Settings” menu and confirm that you wish to reset. The smart plug will take a couple of minutes to reset before it is ready for use again. The smart plug is ready for setup when the network LED is flashing slowly in red to indicate installation mode.
