2 Slide the back cover towards the top of the computer and lift the back cover off the inner frame.
Procedure (non-touch screen) 1 Push the stand down. 2 Loosen the captive screws that secure the back cover to the inner frame.

2 Using your fingertips, spread apart the securing clips at each end of the memory-module slot until the memory module pops up. 3 Slide and remove the memory module from the memory-module slot.

2 Using the straps on the hard-drive assembly, gently push and lift the hard-drive assembly out of the hard-drive cage. 3 Pry the hard-drive bracket to release the tabs on the bracket from the slots on the hard drive.
4 Slide the hard drive off the hard-drive bracket. NOTE: Note the orientation of the hard drive so that you can replace it correctly.

3 Lift the processor heat-sink off the system board. Procedure for computers with discrete graphics NOTE: Depending on the configuration you ordered, the appearance of the processor heat-sink and the number of screws may differ. 1 In sequential order (indicated on the heat sink), loosen the captive screws that secure the processor heat-sink to the system board. 2 Remove the screw (M3X4) that secures the processor heat-sink fan to the middle frame.
3 Lift the processor heat-sink off the system board.

3 Gently lift the processor and remove it from the processor socket.

Procedure Using a plastic scribe, gently push the tabs on the coin-cell battery socket and lift the coin-cell battery off it’s slot on the system board.

7 Slide and remove the wireless card out of the wireless-card slot.

2 Disconnect the power-supply unit cable from its connector on the system board. 3 Disconnect the chassis fan cable from the system board. 4 Remove the four screws (M3X4) that secure the chassis fan to the middle frame.
5 Lift the chassis fan along with its cable off the middle frame.

5 Open the securing clips and release the cables. 6 Remove the five screws (M3X4) that secure the power-supply unit to the middle cover.
7 Lift the power-supply unit with the cable off the middle cover.

2 Gently pry the inner frame from the sides and lift it off the middle frame.

6 Lift the hard-drive cage off the middle frame. 7 Remove the four screws (M2X3) that connects the interposer to the hard-drive cage. 8 Disconnect the interposer from the hard-drive cage.

3 Disconnect the left backlight power cable from the converter board. 4 Remove the three screws (M3X4) that secure the converter board to the middle frame.
5 Lift the converter board off the middle frame.

Flashing the BIOS You may need to flash (update) the BIOS when an update is available or when you replace the system board. To flash the BIOS: 1 Turn on your computer. 2 Go to www.dell.com/support. 3 Click Product support, enter the Service Tag of your computer, and then click Submit. NOTE: If you do not have the Service Tag, use the auto-detect feature or manually browse for your computer model. 4 Click Drivers & downloads → Find it myself. 5 Select the operating system installed on your computer.
System diagnostic lights Power status light: Indicates the power status. Solid Amber – The computer is unable to boot to the operating system. This indicates that the power supply or another device in the computer is failing. Blinking Amber – The computer is unable to boot to the operating system. This indicates that the power supply is normal but another device in the computer is failing or not installed properly. NOTE: See the light patterns to determine the device that is failing.
The computer may emit a series of beeps during start-up if the errors or problems cannot be displayed. The repetitive beep codes help the user troubleshoot problems with the computer. Camera status light: Indicates whether the camera is in use. • Solid white – Camera is in use. • Off – Camera is not in use.
