Introduction This document provides information on Microsoft Windows Server 2008 R2 for Dell PowerEdge systems. The document also includes information on Windows Server 2008 R2 Service Pack 1 (SP1). NOTE: Unless stated otherwise, the information in this document applies to all service packs of the operating system.

Installing Microsoft Windows Server 2008 R2 Using Dell Unified Server Configurator (USC) NOTE: Dell USC support is available only from the latest generation server onwards. Ensure that your server has this support. To install Microsoft Windows Server 2008 R2 using Dell USC: 1 Connect the keyboard, monitor, mouse, and any additional peripherals to your system. 2 Turn on the system and the attached peripherals. 3 Press in the POST to start the System Services. The Initializing UEFI. Please wait...
If a Windows operating system is installed on your system, the following message is displayed: Press any key to boot from the CD/DVD ...Press any key to begin the installation. 12 In the Install Windows screen, select the appropriate option for Language, Time and Currency Format, and Keyboard or Input Method. 13 Click Next to continue. 14 In the Windows Server 2008 R2 screen, click Install Now. The Operating System Install screen is displayed.
d Select the newly-created operating system partition and click Next. The Installing Windows screen is displayed and the installation process begins. After the operating system is installed the system reboots. You must set the administrator password before you can log in for the first time. 19 Click OK in the The user’s password must be set before you login for the first time screen. 20 In the Administrator screen, enter the password, confirm the password, and click the right-arrow.
You must configure the system to boot from the optical drive. To install the operating system using the Dell Systems Management Tools and Documentation media: 1 Connect the keyboard, monitor, mouse, and any additional peripherals to your system. 2 Turn on the system and the attached peripherals. 3 Insert the Dell Systems Management Tools and Documentation media into the optical drive. 4 Press when you are prompted to run the setup utility. The BIOS Settings screen is displayed.
Select Retain existing configuration on the system. If RAID is not yet configured, configure it at this time and click Continue. The Operating System Installation Summary screen is displayed, with the installation options that you have selected. 13 Click Back to change the installation options. If the options displayed are accurate, click Apply Now. The operating system installation begins.
To create a partition and begin installation: a Click New. b Specify the size of the partition in MB, and click Apply. A Windows might create additional partition for system files message is displayed. c Press OK. NOTE: The recommended minimum partition size for the Primary partition is 40 GB. If you are installing additional memory on your system, you may require additional primary partition space to accommodate page file and hibernation.
Installing Microsoft Windows Server 2008 R2 Using the Operating System Media Before you install Microsoft Windows Server 2008 using the Operating System media, you must create a device driver media, download the DRAC diskette image, or create a USB drive driver disk.
5 Alternatively, click Select Model, and navigate to the specific model. 6 Select the System Type, Operating System, Driver Language, Category, and Importance from the drop-down list. 7 The drivers that are applicable to your selection are displayed. From the available list, download the drivers that you require to a diskette drive, USB drive, CD, or DVD.
2 Turn on your system and any attached peripherals. Several BIOS screens appear during startup, but do not require any user intervention. NOTE: This method of installation is supported in the BIOS and UEFI modes. 3 Insert the Microsoft Windows Server 2008 R2 media into the DVD drive. NOTE: If a Windows operating system is installed on your system, the following message is displayed: Press any key to boot from the CD/DVD ... Press any key to begin the installation.
To create a partition and begin installation: a Click New. b Specify the size of the partition in MB, and click Apply. Initial Configuration Tasks and Server Manager After you log in, the Initial Configuration Tasks screen is displayed. You can perform various tasks to provide system information, update the system, and customize the system. After you close the Initial Configuration Tasks window, the Server Manager screen is displayed.
GUID Partition Table Scheme GUID partition table (GPT) scheme is a new standard for the layout of the partition table on a physical hard drive. It is part of the extensible firmware interface (EFI) standard, which is a replacement for the system BIOS. Table 3 provides information about the basic level of support provided by each of these partition schemes. Table 3.
NOTE: It is recommended that you use the GPT partition scheme as it is more flexible, supports larger hard drive sizes, and has a number of features and recovery mechanisms that are not available in the MBR partition scheme. NOTE: GPT boot (UEFI boot) is supported only on 11G or newer platforms.

ANMERKUNG: Für die primäre Partition wird eine Größe von 40 GB empfohlen. Introducción En este documento se proporciona información sobre Microsoft Windows Server 2008 R2 para sistemas Dell PowerEdge. Asimismo, también se incluye información sobre Windows Server 2008 R2 Service Pack 1 (SP1). Aparecerá la pantalla Select RAID Configuration (Seleccionar configuración RAID). Si se ha configurado RAID, en la pantalla se muestran los detalles de la configuración RAID existente. 12 Seleccione Retain existing configuration on the system (Conservar la configuración existente en el sistema). Si aún no se ha configurado RAID, hágalo en este momento y haga clic en Continue (Continuar).

4 Seleccione el controlador que desee en la lista de controladores que se muestra. Seleccione el archivo zip autoextraíble y haga clic en Run (Ejecutar). Copie el controlador en una unidad de disquete, un CD, un DVD o una unidad USB. Repita este paso para todos los controladores necesarios.
Uso de la imagen de disquete de DRAC Instale los controladores de almacenamiento masivo de Dell mediante las imágenes de disquete de Dell Remote Access Controller (DRAC) 4, DRAC 5 o iDRAC disponibles en la página web de asistencia de Dell (support.dell.com). 4 Aparece el mensaje siguiente: Windows is Loading Files (Windows está cargando archivos) Una vez cargados los archivos, aparece el asistente para la instalación de Windows. 5 En la pantalla Install Windows (Instalar Windows), seleccione los valores adecuados para Language (Idioma), Time & Currency (Hora y moneda) y Keyboard (Teclado). Haga clic en Next (Siguiente). 6 En la pantalla Windows Server 2008 R2, haga clic en Install Now (Instalar ahora).
Para crear una partición y comenzar la instalación: a Haga clic en New (Nueva). b Especifique el tamaño de la partición en MB y haga clic en Apply (Aplicar). Aparece el mensaje Windows might create additional partition for system files (Puede que Windows cree una partición adicional para los archivos del sistema). c Haga clic en OK (Aceptar). NOTA: el tamaño mínimo recomendado para la partición principal es 40 GB.
Tareas iniciales de configuración y Server Manager Tras iniciar sesión, aparece la pantalla Initial Configuration Tasks (Tareas de configuración inicial). El espacio de almacenamiento de datos total de una unidad de disco duro se divide en al menos cuatro particiones principales. Esquema de tabla de partición GUID El esquema de tabla de partición GUID (GPT) es un nuevo estándar para la estructura de la tabla de partición de una unidad de disco duro física.
Selección de esquemas de partición Las principales consideraciones que debemos tener en cuenta para elegir entre los esquemas de partición son: • Tamaño de unidad de disco duro • Versión de sistema operativo • Herramientas de software utilizadas en el sistema operativo El esquema de partición MBR se utiliza en las versiones antiguas de los sistemas operativos de Microsoft. El esquema de partición MBR admite un tamaño de volumen inferior a 2 TB.
