Before You Use Your Smartphone Before You Use Your Smartphone Safety Warnings • Observe restrictions on the use of radio equipment in fuel depots, gas stations, chemical plants, or where blasting operations are in progress. • When driving a vehicle, you MUST exercise proper control of the vehicle at all times. Observe the following safety precautions when driving: Read the following safety warnings carefully before using your smartphone.
Before You Use Your Smartphone – You MUST NOT stop on the hard shoulder of a motorway to answer or make a call, except in an emergency. NOTE: In some areas where electric current is known to fluctuate, it is recommended that you plug the charger to an AVR (AC Voltage Regulator) instead of a direct connection to a power outlet. Fluctuations in the electric current may damage the charger and/or the device.
Setting Up Your Smartphone Setting Up Your Smartphone Congratulations on the purchase of your Dell Mini 3iX. This section provides information about setting up your smartphone. Setting Up the Phone for the First Time Smartphone Requirements You must install the battery, SIM card, and charge the battery before you can use your smartphone. To use all of the smartphone features, you need: • A wireless service plan with a carrier • An Internet connection • A computer with a USB 2.
Setting Up Your Smartphone 2 Install the SIM card Hold the SIM card with the metal contacts facing downwards and insert the card into the SIM card holder. 4 Install the battery Align the metal contacts on the battery with the contacts on the battery holder and insert the battery. 5 Close the cover Insert the tabs on the cover into the slots on the phone and snap the cover in place. NOTE: To ensure proper installation, align the cut corners in the card and the SIM card slot.

Maintaining Your Smartphone Maintaining Your Smartphone This section provides information about removal and replacement of components (SIM card and microSD card) and charging the battery. M Battery IN I US B Charging the Battery CAUTION: Do not use any non-approved chargers as they may damage your smartphone and invalidate any warranties. NOTE: It takes at least one chargingdischarging cycle for the battery to reach its peak performance. 1 Ensure that the battery is installed.
Maintaining Your Smartphone 14 2 Open the cover by sliding a finger into the finger slot, and then lift the cover. 3 Slide fingers into the finger slots, and then lift to remove the battery. 4 Align the metal contacts on the battery with the contacts on the battery holder and insert the battery. 5 Close the cover by inserting the tabs on the cover into the slots on the smartphone, and then snap the cover in place.
Maintaining Your Smartphone SIM Card 3 Removing and Replacing the SIM Card 1 NOTE: To ensure proper installation, align the cut corners in the card and the SIM card slot. Maintaining Your Smartphone MicroSD Card 3 Slide the microSD card out from the microSD card holder. Removing and Replacing the microSD Card 4 Hold the microSD card with the metal contacts facing upwards, and slide it into the microSD card slot. 5 Press in on the microSD card until it clicks into place. 6 Close the cover by inserting the tabs on the cover into the slots on the phone, and then snap the cover in place.
Mini 3iX Smartphone Accessories Mini 3iX Smartphone Accessories Your smartphone may ship with the following accessories: • Mini-USB headset — allows you to listen to music or a phone conversation. Callers hear you through the integrated microphone. To use the headset, connect it to the Mini-USB port. See “Left View” on page 20. • Stylus — allows you to quickly enter text using the on-screen keyboard and handwriting tools. See “Selecting an Input Method” on page 33.
Mini 3iX Smartphone Accessories NOTE: The type(s) and number of the power adapter head(s) that ship with your smartphone may vary depending on the country where you purchased the phone. • Microfiber pouch — allows you to store the phone for protection when not in use, and to clean the screen as needed. CAUTION: Do not use solvents, water, or other liquids to clean your smartphone. The included pouch is designed to be used dry. Liquids may damage your smartphone and invalidate any warranties.

Long press: return to the Home screen. 3 Mini-USB Port — Use to charge the phone, connect to a computer, or connect to a headset.

Mini 3iX Smartphone Basics Mini 3iX Smartphone Basics Using The Touch Screen This section provides information about using the touch screen features. • 2 3 1 Selection — To select an item or open an application, touch the item or application with your fingertip. To go back to the previous screen, tap the Back icon or press the Home/Back button. To go back to the Home screen, long press the Home/Back button.
Mini 3iX Smartphone Basics • Options icon — To open the function menu for an item on the screen, tap and hold the item for a second and release. The function menu pops up when you release your finger. • Function tab — To perform the function or open the submenu of the current function, tap and hold the item for a second and release. • Pop up menu — Provides the options available for the current selection. You may have to scroll within the menu to see all the available options.

Tap and hold the status bar, then slide the panel downwards to open the Communication Manager. 1 1 1 Go to Settings icon • 1 24 Expand icon Communication — Tap Mobile Network to turn the cellular network service on or off. Tap WLAN to turn WLAN on or off. Tap Bluetooth to turn Bluetooth on or off.

Icons appear on the status bar to notify you of a new message, upcoming calendar event, alarm or other information important to you.

Mini 3iX Smartphone Basics Using the Home Screen The Home screen provides access to all the applications available on your smartphone. The following are the applications available on your smartphone: NOTE: Not all applications are supported in all models and configurations. Application 28 Description Phone Allows you to make calls using either the recent caller list, contacts list, or manually using the numeric keypad. Browser Allows you to browse the Internet.

Calculator Allows you to perform simple calculations. Notes Allows you to record notes. World clock Allows you to view the time in cities around the world by enabling you to add clocks of your favorite cities. Camera Allows you to capture pictures and videos. Music Provides a rich music experience with playlist management.
Mini 3iX Smartphone Basics Application 30 Description Search Allows you to search for contents on the phone or the SIM card. VSuite Allows you to access VSuite for voice commands. Apps Allows you to execute Java applications. Facebook Allows you to access Facebook on your smartphone. Twitter Allows you to access Twitter on your smartphone. Theme Allows you to switch theme for your smartphone.
Mini 3iX Smartphone Basics Moving Items on the Home Screen 1 To move an item from your Home screen, touch and hold the item to open the menu manager. Removing Items on the Home Screen 1 To remove an item from your Home screen, touch and hold the item to open the menu manager. 2 Tap Delete shortcut. NOTE: Only icons that the user have added can be deleted. 2 Tap Reorder menu to enter reorder mode. 3 Tap and drag the item to its new location.
Mini 3iX Smartphone Basics Sleep Mode Your smartphone may automatically enter the sleep mode after a period of inactivity. You can set the period of inactivity after which the smartphone changes to sleep mode using the phone settings menu. While in sleep mode the display turns off, and your smartphone consumes lesser battery power. 1 Activating sleep mode Short press the Power/Lock button to activate sleep mode.
Mini 3iX Smartphone Basics Entering Text 2 When you start a program or select a field that requires text or numbers, the input panel appears automatically. You can select an input method and start inputting text (predictive text). The phone may automatically suggest vocabularies or commonly used phrases as you enter text. Tap and hold the Switch Input Method icon to open the Input Method Settings screen.
Mini 3iX Smartphone Basics Selecting Input Languages You can select two languages as main input languages and quickly switch between two languages by tapping the Switch Input Method icon. 4 Tap Optional Input Language One to select the first language. 5 Tap desired language. 6 Tap Optional Input Language Two to select the second language. 7 Tap desired language. 8 Tap the Back icon to close the Input Method Setting screen.
Mini 3iX Smartphone Basics To switch between languages: 1 Tap the Switch Input Method icon to switch between the two languages. The space bar on the keyboard changes to indicate the current language. Entering Text with QWERTY To type text using the standard keyboard, you should be in the QWERTY input mode. As you type, each letter appears above your thumb or finger. The letter is not entered until you release your finger from the key.
Mini 3iX Smartphone Basics 3 Tap the keys on the keyboard to enter text. As you tap the keys, word suggestions appear on the suggestion area. Tap a word to select it. Entering Numbers and Symbols Tap the Numbers and Symbols icon to change the input to numbers and symbols.
Mini 3iX Smartphone Basics Using HandWriting 3 Use a stylus or your finger to write anywhere on the screen. 4 The handwriting will be converted to text shortly after you lift the stylus or your finger from the screen. Handwriting allows writing across the entire screen. 1 Tap a text field, such as in a note or new contact, to open the input panel. 2 Tap and hold the Switch Input Method icon and select HandWriting as your input method.
Mini 3iX Smartphone Basics Using the Phone KeyPad 1 2 1 Screen 2 Displays possible word. Tap the word to select it. 38 In the phone keypad, you can text by typing out letters similar to texting on a numeric keypad. 1 Tap a text field, such as in a note or new contact, to open the input panel. 2 Tap and hold the Switch Input Method icon and select Phone KeyPad as your input method. 3 Use a stylus or your finger to touch a key on the keypad. Characters, numbers, or symbols appear on the box.
Mini 3iX Smartphone Basics Connecting to the Internet . Your phone connects to the Internet using a cellular data network. Selecting Cellular Data Networks You can connect to the Internet through EDGE, GPRS, 3G, HSDPA, or WiFi networks. Check the carrier’s network coverage in your area for availability. Ensure that you get the appropriate service plan for a desired network.
Mini 3iX Smartphone Basics Basic Phone Settings Display Settings This section provides information about the basic settings for your smartphone. Display settings allow you to adjust the screen brightness, screen timeout, and screen lock settings. In the Home screen, tap the Settings icon to open the Settings screen. 40 Enabling Auto Brightness 1 In the Home screen, tap the Settings icon to open the Settings screen.

Setting Brightness Manually 1 In the Home screen, tap the Settings icon to open the Settings screen. 2 In the Phone basics section, tap Display settings to open the Display settings screen. 3 Ensure that the Auto brightness is disabled. 4 Tap Brightness from the Display settings screen to open the Brightness panel.
Mini 3iX Smartphone Basics Setting Screen Timeout 4 Tap the available options to select the idle time after which the screen turns off. 5 To exit the screen, tap Cancel. 1 In the Home screen, tap the Settings icon to open the Settings screen. 2 In the Phone basics section, tap Display settings to open the Display settings screen. Date & Time Settings 3 Tap Screen timeout to open the Screen timeout panel. Date and time settings allow you to manually set the date, time, time zone, and formats.

Setting the Date Manually 1 In the Home screen, tap the Settings icon to open the Settings screen. 2 In the Phone basics section, tap Date & time settings to open the Date & time settings screen. 3 Tap Set date to open the Change date panel. 4 Slide your finger up or down on each field to increase or decrease the value of the date. 5 Tap Save to save your changes and exit the Change date panel.
Mini 3iX Smartphone Basics Setting the Time Manually 44 Using the 24-hour Time Format 1 In the Home screen, tap the Settings icon to open the Settings screen. 1 In the Home screen, tap the Settings icon to open the Settings screen. 2 In the Phone basics section, tap Date & time settings to open the Date & time settings screen. 2 In the Phone basics section, tap Date & time settings to open the Date & time settings screen. 3 Tap Set time to open the Change time panel.
Mini 3iX Smartphone Basics Selecting date format 1 In the Home screen, tap the Settings icon to open the Settings screen. 2 In the Phone Basics section, tap Date & time settings to open the Date & time settings screen. 3 Tap Select date format to open the Select date format panel. 4 Tap the date format you prefer from the list. 5 Location Settings Location settings allows you to select the source the smartphone will use to determine your location.
Mini 3iX Smartphone Basics Language Settings The language settings allow you to set the display language and the input method. Selecting the Display Language 46 Activating Input Methods 1 In the Home screen, tap the Settings icon to open the Settings screen. 2 In the Phone basics section, tap Language and input to open the Language screen. 1 In the Home screen, tap the Settings icon to open the Settings screen. 3 Tap Enable favorite input method to open the Input methods panel.
Mini 3iX Smartphone Basics Profile Settings . Profile settings allow you to create a profile, select a profile to use, and edit an existing profile. Selecting a Profile 1 In the Home screen, tap the Settings icon to open the Settings screen. 2 Tap Profiles to open the Profiles screen. The Profile icon appears next to the selected profile. Available profiles include Normal, Vibrate, Silent, and Outdoor mode. 1 NOTE: You can also select the profile in the Connection Manager.
Mini 3iX Smartphone Basics 4 48 You may setup the individual settings by tapping the options on the menu. • Alert Style — Tap Ring, Vibrate, or Ring and Vibrate on the panel to change the alert style and tap OK to exit. • Audible selection — Select this option to play sound when tapping the screen. • Volume — Slide your finger right/left on the screen to increase/decrease the volume and tap OK to exit.
Mini 3iX Smartphone Basics • Ringtone — Tap Ringtone or a specific alert from the Profile Settings screen to open Ringtones screen. Tap to select the ringtone you prefer, and then tap OK to exit. 5 • Message alert — Tap this option to set the message alert tone. • Email alert — Tap this option to set the Email alert tone. • Calendar alert — Tap this option to set the calendar alert tone. • Alarm alert — Tap this option to set the alarm alert tone.
Mini 3iX Smartphone Basics 6 In the function menu, tap Select to activate the selected profile and exit the screen.
Using the Phone Using the Phone You can make calls using your smartphone by either tapping a number in your contacts list or recent caller list. You can also dial a number manually using the Phone that appears on the screen. Phone Dialing a Number Using the On Screen Phone 1 Tap Phone in the Home screen to open the Phone screen.
Using the Phone 2 2 1 3 4 5 Touch the on-screen dial pad to enter a number. Use the Backspace icon to make corrections. As you dial the numbers, the phone will auto-match the numbers already stored in your Contacts list. Both the number you are dialing and the potential matches will be shown. If you see a match, you can tap it to make the call. If no matching result is found, finish dialing the number and then tap the Call tab to dial the number you just entered.
Using the Phone You can switch out of the In call screen by tapping the Back icon to continue using other features on the phone. The Ongoing call icon will be displayed on top of the Home screen during your phone call. Ending a Call Tap the End call tab to end the phone call. 1 1 Ongoing call icon NOTE: If you are not in the Call screen as shown above, long press Home/Back button to return to the Home screen, and then tap Phone to enter the Call screen.
Using the Phone Dialing a Number Using the Call Log Dialing a Number Using Your Phonebook 1 Tap Phone in the Home screen to open the Phone screen. 1 Tap Phone in the Home screen to open the Phone screen. 2 Tap the Call log icon to open the Call log screen. 2 Tap the Phonebook icon to open Contacts. 1 1 1 1 3 54 Phonebook icon Call log icon Tap a contact from the log to dial the number directly. 3 Tap a contact from the list to dial the number.
Using the Phone Dialing a Number Using Your Favorites 1 Tap Phone in the Home screen to open the Phone screen. 2 Tap the Favorites icon to open the Favorites screen. Answering or Rejecting an Incoming Call To answer a call, press and slide the Slide to answer arrow. To reject a call, press and slide the Slide to decline arrow. 1 1 2 1 3 Favorites icon Tap a contact from the list to dial the number.
Using the Phone Accessing the Call Log 1 Tap Phone in the Home screen to open the Phone screen. 2 Tap the Call log icon to open the call log screen. The call log lists all incoming, outgoing, and missed calls.
Using the Phone To sort your calls, tap the Call log tab, then select sorting view. To call, send a message, and edit contact data, tap the Options icon. Using the Call Log 1 Select an entry to open the detailed Call log screen. Tap the Options icon to open the function menu.
Using the Phone 2 Perform any of the options below as required: • Tap Call to call the contact. • Tap Edit number then dial to edit contact details then call the contact. • Tap Send VCard to send the selected contact’s information to another contact. Contacts Adding New Contacts 1 Tap Contacts in the Home screen. 2 Tap Add Contact. 1 2 1 Add Contact tab 2 Please input name field 3 58 Enter the contact information.
Using the Phone Tap Add icon to add an icon for the contact. Tap the Add Field tab to add more information. Tap the Delete icon to delete a field. 4 Tap Save to save your contact information and exit, Back icon to exit without saving. Adding a Contact to Favorites 1 In the Contacts screen, tap a contact to open Edit Contact screen. 2 Tap the Options icon then tap Set to Favorites.
Using the Phone Understanding Call Settings 2 The following options are available from the Call settings screen: • Fixed Dial Number list • Call barring • Call forwarding • Other basic settings • Speed dial • Voicemail • In-call timer Use your finger tip to enter the submenu for each option. 1 2 Editing Call Settings 1 Open the Settings > Call settings screen. 1 Settings screen 2 Call Settings screen 3 To exit the screen tap the Back icon.
Using the Phone Fixed Dial Number (FDN) list 3 Tap Manage FDN list. If you have numbers on your SIM card you will be able to select from them. If not, you will be able to add contacts or numbers to your list. 4 To add new numbers, tap Add. Type the name and number of the contact and then tap Save. Your FDN list now contains the newly added contact. The Fixed Dial Number list allows you to restrict outgoing calls from your phone to a preset list of numbers.
Using the Phone 5 Continue adding numbers until you have all the contacts you wish to include on the FDN list. You may also edit or delete contacts at any time. 6 To disable FDN functionality, re-select the FDN Enabled option again. To enable or disable the call barring functions, tap the option on the screen that you would like to set up.
Using the Phone Call Forwarding The Call forwarding option allows you to forward your smartphone calls directly to voicemail or to other numbers. The following options are available when setting up call forwarding: • Always forward — Select to specify a forwarding number and to enable this feature. When this feature is enabled, the Forward when busy, Forward when unanswered, Forward when unreachable are disabled. • Forward when busy — Select to enable this feature.
Using the Phone Other Basic Call Settings The following are options available in the Other basic settings screen: • Caller ID — Select this check box to hide or show your number to recipient’s of your call. When your number shows, your phone number and Caller ID picture will appear to people you call, provided the call recipient’s device supports this feature. • Call waiting — Select this check box to display incoming calls when you are on a call.
Using the Phone Using Speed Dial Using Speed Dialing The Speed dialing option allows you to set up your most frequently used numbers for quick dialing. Tap Phone in the Home screen, and then tap and hold the Speed dial number. For example, tap and hold 1 to call Speed dial #1. To exit this screen, tap the Back icon. The in-call timer option allows you to monitor the duration of your calls. You can set the timer to 30, 60, 90, or 120 seconds. You will hear a tone at the interval set. You can also use this option to enable or disable the in-call timer function.

Your smartphone allows you to check email from your corporate Exchange server, from your POP/IMAP accounts with your ISP (Internet service provider), and from Internet mail accounts such as AOL, Gmail, or Yahoo. Tap Mail in the Home screen to begin using Email. The Email account screen opens. NOTE: Not all account types are available in all products and regions.

In Conversation List screen, messages are listed as grouped conversation or message threads that are sent to and received from a contact.
Using Applications Reading Unread Messages The Unread Messages icon indicates unread messages for the contacts on your Messaging list. Tap the contacts with unread messages to read the messages. Replying to a Message 1 Tap Messaging in the Home screen to open the Messaging screen. 2 Tap the desired message. 3 In Folder view screen, tap Reply. In Conversation List screen, tap the text box. 4 Type in your message. 5 Tap Send to send your message.

Using Applications Messaging Settings SMSC This section provides information about Message Settings including SMSC, Expiry Time, Delivery reports, Request read reports, Auto retrieval, Auto retrieval while roaming, and Signature. Select SMSC (Short Message Service Center) to enter the Service Center address for your multimedia. The Service Center address should already be set up for you. Contact your service providers if you need to change this information.
Using Applications Delivery reports Select this check box to request a delivery report for each message you send. Request read reports Select this check box to request a read report for each message you send. Auto-retrieval Select this check box to retrieve messages automatically. Auto-retrieval while roaming Select this check box to retrieve messages automatically when roaming outside of your service area.
Using Applications Signature Calendar Select this setting to append a signature to your messages. Signature will be appended to every MMS message you send. The Calendar lets you assign events such as appointments or specific tasks to a date or time and receive reminders to remind you of the events. You can view your events in a continuous list, by day, by week, or by month. To open Calendar, tap Calendar in the Home screen. Tap OK to save and exit when you are done.
Using Applications Calendar Views To select calendar view, tap the Function tab and select Month View, Week View, Day View, or Agenda View. Month view The blue square on vertical bars represent events you added. 112 To view event details, select a day to view all events on that day then select an event to view its details. To navigate months, slide your finger left/right through the days and past the beginning/end of the month to move to the previous/next month.

To navigate within the current week, slide your finger up/down on the screen. To navigate to a past or future week, slide your finger left/right on the screen. To jump to current day, tap the Options icon, and then tap Jump to today. To exit the screen, tap the Back icon. Select an event to open the pop up window that displays more event information.

Editing an Event To edit an event, tap the event to view its details, tap the Options icon then tap Edit event. To exit the screen, tap the Back icon.

You can set up Hide declined events, Set default view, Set alert & notifications, and Set default reminder in Calendar Settings. The following settings are available: • Hide declined events — Select this check box to have all declined events hidden. • Set default view — Select this setting to set the default view for your calendar.
Using Applications • Set alerts & notifications - Select this setting to set the type of event reminder you want. You can choose Alert, Status bar notification, or Off. Alarm Clock To use Alarm Clock, tap Alarm in the Home screen. Setting an Alarm 1 • Set default reminder - Select this setting to set the default reminder time for your events. To exit the screen, tap the Back icon. 118 Tap Alarm in the Home screen to open Alarm Clock.

Long tap the file or folder you want to decompress to open the pop up menu. 2 Tap Decompress. 3 Enter the name for your unzip file and tap OK to save and exit the screen.

Using Applications Index Statistic 1 Use Index statistic to view the number of records you have in each program. Tap Search in the Home screen to open Search. 2 Tap the Options icon, and tap Index. The Index screen opens. 3 Slide your finger up and down to view the entire list. 4 Tap the Back icon to exit the screen.
