1 Introduction Use this document to better understand the installation process, the basic site requirements, and the steps for getting started managing your APEX Data Storage Services. Topics: • APEX Data Storage Services overview APEX Data Storage Services overview APEX Data Storage Services is an on-premises as-a-Service portfolio of scalable and elastic storage resources.
The onboarding process that is shown below is the same whether you are designing a new offer or expanding an existing offer. Figure 1. APEX Data Storage Services onboarding process Design solution If you are new to APEX Data Storage Services, contact your Dell Technologies sales team to work with your IT architects to design or expand the solution to meet your business needs.
Staging and shipping Dell Technologies stages the offer in a Dell factory, where the storage and server components, networking switches, and power distribution are installed and cabled. After validation testing, the entire rack is shipped to the selected data center location. Deployment and service readiness The Dell Technologies deployment team works with your staff to install and deploy the offer in your data center or hosted location, including configuring storage software and network ports.
2 Site Planning You will work closely with Dell Technologies Services to assess your site and determine specific requirements pertaining to your APEX Data Storage Services order. This section provides general site requirements for APEX Data Storage Services.

APEX Data Storage Services networking The Dell Technologies Managed Services sales team works with you to identify your network configuration and discusses network details with you such as the following: ● A—Management network—One uplink is used for overall system management. An RJ45 or 10G SFP+ transceiver is added to the offer for the management network connection. ● B-D—Host data network—The data uplink connections are IP-based connections with speeds of 10 Gbps, 25 Gbps, 40 Gbps, or 100 Gbps.
VPN connections are established between your location and two Dell Technologies sites in an active/active configuration where all connections are always active for high availability and disaster recovery. Dell Technologies Managed Services uses VPN for the following services: ● Remote management—Used for secure management and support of your APEX Data Storage Services using Remote Desktop sessions.

3 Getting Started with APEX Data Storage Services After the Dell Deployment team has installed and set up your APEX Data Storage Services order, you can start using the Dell Technologies APEX Console to manage your storage. Topics: • • Onboarding communications APEX Console Onboarding communications When you place an order for APEX Data Storage Services, you will receive communications from Dell Technologies that includes links to the APEX Console and its related programs and credentials as needed.
APEX Console Your subscription to APEX Data Storage Services includes access to the APEX Console. Use the APEX Console to access and operate your data storage and to contact Dell Technologies. You will receive credentials and information about programs during the onboarding process. Retain communications from Dell Technologies for future reference. Figure 3. Get started with the APEX Console After onboarding, you can access the APEX Console. The APEX Console provides online access to manage your storage subscriptions, billing information, and services. You can start onboarding users while waiting for service to be provisioned. Your subscription order is visible in the APEX Console, but details are not available until after service activation.
APEX Data Storage Services Roles and Responsibilities This section describes the roles and responsibilities for the features and functions of the APEX Data Storage Services offer. For the most current information for your offer, see the Roles and Responsibilities (RACI) APEX Data Storage Services document that is provided with your service agreement. NOTE: This information is for reference only, it does not supersede the provisions in the Terms and Offer Description for your purchased services.
