1 System overview The Dell™ PowerEdge™ R550 is Dell’s latest 2-socket, 2U rack server designed to run complex workloads using highly scalable memory, I/O, and network options. The system features the 3rd Generation Intel ® Xeon Scalable Processor , up to 16 DIMMs, PCI Express ® (PCIe) 4.0 enabled expansion slots, and a choice of network interface technologies to cover NIC.

5 Memory subsystem The PowerEdge R550 supports up to 16 DIMMs, with up to 1024 GB of memory and speeds of up to 2933 MT/s. The PowerEdge R550 supports registered DIMMs (RDIMMs) that use a buffer to reduce memory loading and provide greater density, allowing for the maximum platform memory capacity. Static rails The static rails, shown in the figure below, support a wider variety of racks than the sliding rails, but do not support serviceability in the rack. The static rails are not compatible with the CMA and SRB.
Strain Relief Bar The optional Strain Relief Bar (SRB) for the system organizes and secures cables exiting the back of the server.
