System 5000 Cuff
Overview
The System 5000 Cuff is used in conjunction with the System 5000 personal tracking unit (PTU) to track
individuals on probation a parole. It is placed on the ankle or wrist of the individual in a secure manner
so that any removal would be detected electronically.
Cuff Installation and Set-up
The cuff is installed by first affixing one side of the strap to cuff housing. This is accomplished by
aligning the keyed side of the strap with the receiving recess on the cuff housing and inserting and
locking fastener into place.
Once the fixed end of the strap is in place, make a loop by feeding the other end of the strap into the open
slot on the opposite side of the cuff housing. The open slot is in a lever that will be used in a later step to
properly size the strap. Place a fastening pin in the keyed recess of the lever; this will be used to secure
the lever once the strap has been properly fitted.
The cuff is started by placing the cuff housing in the activation point in the PTU charging base for 5
seconds.
The PTU will acknowledge the marriage of the cuff PTU on screen and the cuff will vibrate to also
acknowledge the marriage. Both should be observed for a positive start-up.
When marriage confirmation is received the cuff is placed on the individual’s ankle, by slipping the loop
over the foot and pulling the strap tight around the ankle so only two (2) fingers can place between the
strap and ankle.
Now close the lever slowly so the excess strap material is cut; remove the excess material by pulling
loose end away from the cuff housing and snap the lever closed. The retaining pin will snap into the base
of the cuff and the lever will remain closed.
Cuff Shutdown and Removal
To shut down the cuff a file must be sent for the website to the PTU. The PTU will then forward the
message to the cuff and the cuff will confirm shut-down by vibrating x time then stop transmitting.
At this point the cuff can be removed from the ankle and place set-up for use on the next individual.
