Making Your First Call Installing SIM card What is a SIM card? The SI M (Subscriber I dentification M odule) card is a small plastic card with metal contact on it. You get this card after you subscribe to your operator. Your personal subscriber information is stored in the SI M card and you need to use this card in the phone to make/receive calls and access services provided by your operator. • Turn the phone face down. • Open the back cover. • Slide the SIM card into the SI M card socket.
Making Your First Call Installing and charging the battery Place the top end of the battery on the back of the phone, then push the bottom end into the phone until you hear a click. I nstall the battery cover as shown.
Making Your First Call I nsert the battery charger connector into the battery charging socket located at the bottom of the phone, and then plug into the electric power outlet. Not e • Charge the new battery before first time use. When the battery is being charged, the service light becomes red, the bars of the charging status icon on phone screen scrolls. When charging is completed, the bars will stop scrolling. • You can use the phone while charging, however, it will take longer to charge the battery.
Making Your First Call Turning on the phone Long press the power key located on the top of the phone. Power key Not e I n this manual, "long press" a key means "press and hold the key for at least 2 seconds and then release it", while "press" a key means "press the key and release it immediately". A welcome screen appears and you probably will be asked to enter your PI N code. Enter the PI N code and press OK . I f you accidentally typed a wrong number, press Clear to erase it.
Making Your First Call Press this soft key to confirm the PIN code you entered. Not e For convenience of operation, your phone is equipped with two soft keys. You can press a softkey to execute the function that is indicated on the screen. I n this manual, “press OK ” refers to “press the softkey under OK that is displayed on the screen”. After the PI N code is verified, you will be prompted to enter current time and date. Enter the information and press OK .
Making Your First Call Dialing the num ber Enter the number you want to dial (including the area code) and press key. I f the phone number you entered is wrong, press Clear to erase a wrong number, or press and hold Clear to clear a whole line. Ending the call When you want to end the call, press terminated. key (or press End).

The more the number of vertical bars, the better the reception of signal (AppearSignal strength ance of 4 bars indicates the best signal reception). Shows remaining battery power. The more the number of vertical bars, the more the battery power (Appearance of 4 bars indicates that the battery is full).
Int roduct ion t o Your Phone Vibrator on Silent Status icons This icon appears when the vibrator function is turned on. This icon appears when you turn off all sounds of your phone. This icon shows that the call divert function is turned ON. Call divert (See "Call divert"on page 66 for details) When your phone has been connected to the GPRS network, GPRS mode this con will appear.

Int roduct ion t o Your Phone The alphanumeric keys on the phone can be used to enter numbers and letters. To enter phone numbers, press corresponding number keys directly. To enter letters, please see "Entering Latin characters and words"on page 26 for details. Service light There is a service light on your phone. Please refer to the table below for the type of flash, color and their meanings(You can change the color of the service light, please see "Service light"on page 89 for details).

Basic Operat ions Turning on the phone When phone power is off, long press the power key to switch it on. I f the PI N code protection function has been activated, you will be asked to enter your PI N code. Enter the code and press OK. You can also choose to turn off PI N code protection. Please see "Activating/deactivating PI N code"on page 85 for details. A welcome screen will appear and the phone will start searching for its home network automatically.

Press key to dial. • Press Left to view missed call records. Scroll to the number you want to call. Press key to dial. • Press Right to view answered call records. Scroll to the number you want to call. Press key to dial. • Find a phone number in the Phone Book and press key to dial.
Basic Operat ions Making an emergency call Press (or any other emergency number specified by your operator) and then key. Depending on your operator, the emergency call can be made even when there is no SI M card in the phone. Not e I f the home network is not found(the signal strength icon appears on the screen with no bars), you can only make emergency call. Answering a call Your phone rings or vibrates (or remains silent, according to the setting of sound profile) when an incoming call is received.
Basic Operat ions Ending a call Press key to end a call. Depending on your setup in Session information (see "Session information"on page 65 for details), the session information may appear on the screen. Missed call m essage If you have missed calls, “Missed call” message and the number of missed calls will appear on the screen. You can press D etail to view detailed missed call records, or Exit to clear the screen and return to standby mode.
Basic Operat ions To make a new call during a call: 1. Scroll to D ial new call in the I n-call Option menu and press Select. 2. Enter the phone number of the second call and press key. Answering a new incom ing call I f you have a new incoming call when you are already on a call, new incoming call message will appear on the screen. Press key to put current call on hold and answer the new call. Press key to end (or reject) the new incoming call and you will be connected to the old call automatically.
Basic Operat ions If you have multiple active calls, you can use this function to connect all calling parties so that they can talk to each other at the same time. To establish a conference call, scroll to Conference in the I n-call Option menu and press Select. Private call on a conference call When a conference call is in progress, you can use this function to talk to one of the call parties privately. To use this function: 1.
Basic Operat ions During a call, you can use this function to consult names and numbers in the Phone Book. For details about Phone Book, please refer to "Phone Book"on page 30. To consult Phone Book during a call: 1. Scroll to Phone book in the I n-call Option menu and press Select. 2. You will enter the Phone Book menu. You can search for a name and number or add a new number..., etc. Accessing Main Menu During a call, you can use this function to access the Main Menu.
Basic Operat ions To read the new message: 1. Press D etail to go to the list of received messages. 2. Scroll to the message you want to read and press Select. Reading m ultim edia m essages When a new multimedia message is received, new message alert will be generated (depending on your sound profile setting) and the “New MMS” prompt and an icon will appear on the screen. To read the new message: 1. Press D etail to go to the list of received messages. 2.
Basic Operat ions Receiving business card When a new business card is received, new business card alert will be generated (depending on your sound profile setting) and the “Business card” prompt will appear on the screen. To read the new business card: 1. Press D etail to go to the list of received business cards. 2. Scroll to the business card you want to read, press Select for the following options: • Scroll to V iew and press Select to view the business card.
Basic Operat ions Entering Tex t The phone provides several input methods that enable you to enter text in Phone Book, write a message..., etc. You can also switch among these input methods easily.
Basic Operat ions 2. Press a key and the corresponding letters will appear in a bar on the lower part of the screen. 3. Press the key several times to highlight the desired letter (or number) and it will be entered when the bar disappears. You can also proceed to enter the next letter when the desired letter (or number) is highlighted. The remaining number of letters you can enter is shown on the upper right corner of the screen. Long press key to switch between upper and lower cases.
Basic Operat ions Entering tex t using T9 English input m ethod The T9 English input method is able to detect your key presses and combine them into possible words automatically for you to select. This can dramatically reduce the time you need to select correct characters and words using conventional input method. To use T9 English input method: 1. Select T9 English in the input mode selection menu. 2. Type the word you want to enter using the keypad.

Press Left or Right to move the cursor backward/forward. Using key lock The key lock helps to prevent unwanted key operations when you carry your phone. • To enable key lock: I n standby mode, press the left soft key, then key. • To unlock: key.

Phone Book Adding a Phone Book entry You can add a new entry to Phone Book in the following ways: Met hod 1 1. Enter Phone Book by pressing the right soft key in standby mode. 2. Scroll to Add and press Select. 3. You will be prompted to enter the name of the entry. Enter the name and press OK . 4. Enter the phone number and press OK . Met hod 2 1. I n standby mode, enter the number using the alphanumeric keys. 2. Press Save. You will be prompted to enter the name of the entry.
Phone Book 2. Press Select. 3. Enter the name of the Phone Book entry you want to look for. You can also enter only the beginning few letters of the name. 4. Press OK , The entries that match the name (or contain the letters) you entered will appear on the screen. You can also press U P or D own in standby mode to enter the phone book for searching. Edit ing a Phone Book entry Editing nam e 1. Scroll to a Phone Book entry. 2. Press D etail. 3. Scroll to the name and press Options. 4. Press Select. 5.
Phone Book You can add four types of notes to a Phone Book entry that is stores in the phone memory. 1. Scroll to a Phone Book entry. 2. Press D etail. 3. Scroll to the name (or number) and press Options. 4. Scroll to Add text and press Select: • N ote: Enter notes. • E-mail: Enter e-mail addresses. • Postal address: Enter postal addresses. • Web address: Enter the web addresses. 5. Scroll to a desired type and press Select. 6. Enter the text and press OK when finished.
Phone Book up a recipient from Phone Book by pressing N ames) and press Send. If you are not sure whether the recipient's phone supports business card format, scroll to Send as text and press Select. You can edit the contents before sending it. If you added notes to a Phone Book entry, only e-mail address will be attached when you send the entry as a business card. Assigning default phone number If you have multiple phone numbers in a Phone Book entry, you can assign one of these numbers as default number.

Scroll to One by one and press Select. 2. Scroll to select the Phone Book entry you want to erase and press OK . 3. Press OK . To erase all Phone Book entries: 1. Scroll to All. 2. To delete all Phone Book entries stored in phone memory, scroll to Phone. To delete entries on the SI M card, scroll to SI M . 3. Press Select, and then press OK . 4.

Phone Book Before sending a business card, you can specify the contents of the information. 1. Scroll to I nfo. setting and press Select. 2. Scroll to an item and press Off or On. Only checked items will be included in the business card. Edit ing your business card 1. Enter Phone Book by pressing the right soft key in standby mode. 2. Scroll to M y own card and press Select. 3. Scroll to Edit and press Select. 4. Edit the contents of your business card. When finished, press Save.

The Main Menu Overview The main menu of your phone is accessed by pressing the left soft key in standby mode. Overview To navigate in the Main Menu Press U p or D own to scroll the menu. Press Right or Select to view the contents of the menu or select an option. Press Left or Exit to return to previous menu or abort selection. You can also navigate using the quick access keys: 1. I n standby mode, press the left soft key. 2. Press the quick access keys.
The Main Menu Message The options in the Message menu allow you to write, send and receive messages and setup message settings. Message Not e Before you can use Message functions, make sure that related message settings are configured properly. (Depending on your operator, the settings may have already been programmed on the SI M card). Refer to "Message settings"on page 53 for details. Writ ing and sending new messages You can write and send text messages.
The Main Menu • I nsert melody: I nsert a ring tone melody into the message. The icon will appear on the screen. You can also send a message from message templates. Please refer to "Sending a message from templates"on page 48 for details. Message Viewing sent m essages The draft and sent messages are automatically stored in the Outbox. To open the Outbox and check these messages: 1. I n standby mode, press the left soft key, Select. 2. Press Select. 3. Scroll to Outbox and press Select.

You can also add other members to the chatroom. Custom izing preset m essage tem plates Message Templates are frequently used phrases preset in phone memory. Your phone supports MM S (Multimedia M essaging Service) standard which allows you to insert color picture, sound, animation and melodies..., etc. in a message and to send the message to an e-mail address.
