Making Your First Call Installing SIM card What is a SIM card? The SIM (Subscriber Identification Module) card is a small plastic card with metal contact on it. You get this card after you subscribe to your operator. Your personal subscriber information is stored in the SIM card and you need to use this card in the phone to make/receive calls and access services provided by your operator. 1. Turn the phone face down. 2. Open the back cover. 3. Slide the SIM card into the SIM card socket.
Making Your First Call Turning on the phone 1. Press and hold the power key located on the bottom right-hand corner of the phone. 2. A welcome screen appears and you probably will be asked to enter your PIN code. Enter the PIN code and press OK. If you accidentally typed a wrong number, press Clear to erase it. Note For convenience of operation, your phone is equipped with two soft keys. You can press a softkey to execute the function that is indicated on the screen.

Introduction to Your Phone New voicemail message Roaming Line 2 Vibrator on Silent Appearance of this icon indicates that you have new voicemail messages. This icon appears when you are roaming under another network. If you speak with the second telephone line, this icon will appear. (See "Selecting a phone line to use"on page 65 for details) This icon appears when the vibrator function is turned on. This icon appears when you turn off all sounds of your phone.

Introduction to Your Phone Turning on the phone When phone power is off, press and hold the power key to switch it on. If the PIN code protection function has been activated, you will be asked to enter your PIN code. Enter the code and press OK. You can also choose to turn off PIN code protection. Please see "Activating/deactivating PIN code"on page 79 for details. A welcome screen will appear and the phone will start searching for its home network automatically.

Press key to dial. • Find a phone number in the Phone Book and press key to dial. • Long press alphanumeric keys ~ to dial the phone number located #2 ~#9 in the Phone Book. (You must set up Speed Dial and activate such function first.
Introduction to Your Phone Alphanumeric keys The alphanumeric keys on the phone can be used to enter numbers and letters. To enter phone numbers, press corresponding number keys directly. To enter letters, please see "Entering latin characters and words"on page 21 for details.

Basic Operations Making an emergency call Press (or any other emergency number specified by your operator) and then key. Depending on your operator, the emergency call can be made even when there is no SIM card in the phone. Answering a call Your phone rings or vibrates (or remains silent, according to the setting of sound profile) when an incoming call is received. Meanwhile, the caller’s name (if the caller’s name can be found in your Phone Book) or number will appear on the screen.
Basic Operations You can also customize these profiles. See "Customizing a sound profile"on page 69 for details. Options during a call During a call, you have the choice to access several in-call options. To access these options: 1. Press Options during a call. 2. Scroll to a desired item in the In Call Option menu that appears. 3. Press Select to select it. Making a new call To make a new call during a call: 1. Highlight Dial new call in the In Call Option menu and press Select. 2.
Basic Operations To unhold calls: 1. Highlight Unhold in the In Call Option menu and press Select. 2. Select the call you want to unhold in the menu that appears. 3. Press Select. Switching calls If you have two active calls, you can use this function to switch between them. To switch calls, scroll to Switch in the In Call Option menu and press Select. Transferring a call If you have two active calls, this function allows you to transfer one call to the other.
Basic Operations Highlight End Calls in the In Call Option menu and press Select. • To end one call on a multi-party call, highlight the call party you want to end and press Select. • To end all calls, highlight All calls and press Select. Transmitting DTMF tones This feature allows you to send DTMF tones during a call. For example, when you are asked to enter your bank account number during a telephone banking service call. To transmit DTMF tones: 1.
Basic Operations Highlight Unmute in the In Call Option menu and press Select. Listening to your voice mail When a new voice mail is received, the icon appears on the screen. To listen to the new voice mail, long press key in standby mode and connect to your voice mailbox. Depending on your operator, you may need to configure your voice mailbox before you can use this function. Please refer to "3. Scroll to the profile you configured and press Select two times.
Basic Operations • Fetch this msg.: Fetch the message immediately. • Erase: Erase the message immediately without fetching it. • Detail info.: View the title, sender’s number and memory size of this message. Note • If a multimedia message is received during a call, you still have to enter the Inbox and fetch this message by yourself after the phone call is end even if you have turned on the Auto fetch function. • A maximum of 30KB is allowed for each received multimedia message.
Basic Operations • Press Select to view the operator logo. • Scroll to Save and press Select to replace the old logo with the new one. • Scroll to Save as and press Select to save the new logo as a picture. • Scroll to Abort and press Select to abort this logo. Receiving and saving ring tone Ring tone download is an extra service. When the ring tone is received, New ring tone will appear on the screen and your phone alert will also be generated (depending on your sound profile setting).

The selected mode will appear on the upper right corner of the screen. • abc mode: Allows you to enter lower case letters. • ABC mode: Allows you to enter upper case letters. • Abc mode: The first letter entered is automatically capitalized. • 123 mode: Allows you to enter numbers. • T9 English: Allows you to enter text using T9 English input method.

Basic Operations reduce the time you need to select correct characters and words using conventional input method. To use T9 English input method: 1. Select T9 English in the input mode selection menu. 2. Type the word you want to enter using the keypad. For example, if you want to enter the word "phone", press . 3. If the word that appears on the screen is not the desired one, press Up or Down to scroll to the word you want. 4. To enter the word and add a space after the word, press .

Phone Book Adding a Phone Book entry You can add a new entry to Phone Book in the following ways: Method 1 Method 2 Method 3 1. Enter Phone Book by pressing the right soft key in standby mode. 2. Scroll to Add and press Select. 3. You will be prompted to enter the name of the entry. Enter the name and press OK. 4. Enter the phone number and press OK. 1. In standby mode, enter the number using the alphanumeric keys. 2. Press Save. You will be prompted to enter the name of the entry.
Phone Book Note Inserting pause To insert a pause after phone number (used when there is an extension number following the phone number), long press key until P appears. For example, to call extension number 234 after the number 1234567, enter 1234567 and then long press key to insert a P, then enter the extension number 234. Making an international call To make an international call: 1. Long press key to insert a + (international dialing prefix). 2.
Phone Book Searching for a Phone Book entry To search for a Phone Book entry: 1. Enter Phone Book by pressing the right soft key in standby mode. 2. Press Select. 3. Enter the name of the Phone Book entry you want to look for. You can also enter only the beginning few letters of the name. 4. The entries that match the name (or contain the letters) you entered will appear on the screen. Editing a Phone Book entry Editing name 1. Scroll to a Phone Book entry and press Detail. 2.
Phone Book The Caller group function allows you to separate your Phone Book entries in different groups. For details about the Caller group function, please refer to "Setting up Caller Group"on page 31. 1. Scroll to a Phone Book entry and press Detail. 2. Scroll to the name (or number) and press Options. 3. Scroll to Change Group and press Select. 4. Scroll to a desired caller group and press Select.
Phone Book Sending messages from Phone Book To send a new message from Phone Book: 1. Scroll to a Phone Book entry and press Detail. 2. Scroll to the number and press Options. 3. Scroll to Send message and press Select. 4. Compose the message. When finished, press Options and then Send to send the message. You can choose to copy Phone Book entries one by one or all at once. • Select Keep original (copy the Phone Book entry to a new location) or Move original (move the Phone Book entry to a new location). To copy Phone Book entries from SIM card to phone: • Scroll to SIM to Phone and press Select.

Phone Book you have an incoming call, you can judge the caller by its specific Caller Group. Note • For using the Caller Group function, you have to set up Incoming call alert as Group in the Sound profiles and select a corresponding caller group(Please see "Customizing a sound profile"on page 69). • Each phone book entry can only select a corresponding Caller Group. Your phone provides 5 pre-configured caller groups. You can also customize the caller group settings.
Phone Book Miscellaneous settings Personal number If your SIM card supports, your phone number will be recognized and displayed here. Otherwise, you need to specify your phone number manually.You can specify up to 2 numbers. Adding a personal number 1. Enter Phone Book by pressing the right soft key in standby mode. 2. Scroll to Personal Number and press Select. 3. Press Options and then Select. 4. Enter your name and press OK. 5. Enter your phone number and press OK. Editing personal number 1.

Select a format: • If you want to send the Phone Book entry as a business card, scroll to Send as SMS and press Select.
Phone Book If your SIM card supports, you can use this function to restrict outgoing calls only to the numbers (or the numbers that begin with the same digit(s)) on the fixed dial list. Note You need PIN2 code to active this function. Activating Fixed dial 1. Enter Phone Book by pressing the right soft key in standby mode. 2. Scroll to Fixed dial number and press Select. 3. Press On. 4. Enter your PIN 2 code and press OK. Adding new Fixed dial number 1.

Phone Book If you activate this function, your phone will search for possible corresponding phone numbers from the Phone Book and display them on the bottom of the screen when you are entering phone number by pressing alphanumeric keys. 1. The Main Menu Overview The main menu of your phone is accessed by pressing the left soft key in standby mode. Overview To navigate in the Main Menu Press Up or Down to scroll the menu. Press Right or Select to view the contents of the menu or select an option. Press Left or Exit to return to previous menu or abort selection. You can also navigate using the quick access keys: 1. In standby mode, press the left soft key. 2. Press the quick access keys.
The Main Menu Message The options in the Message menu allow you to write, send and receive messages and setup message settings. Message Note Before you can use Message functions, make sure that related message settings are configured properly. (Depending on your operator, the settings may have already been programmed on the SIM card). Refer to "Message settings"on page 48 for details. Writing and sending new messages You can write and send text messages.
The Main Menu • Insert sound: Insert sound effect into the message. The icon will appear on the screen. • Insert melody: Insert a ring tone melody into the message. The icon Viewing sent messages The draft and sent messages are automatically stored in the Outbox. To open the Outbox and check these messages: 1. In standby mode, press the left soft key, Select. 2. Press Select. 3. Scroll to Outbox and press Select. A list of draft and sent messages will appear on the screen.
The Main Menu Press Detail. The list of received messages will appear on the screen. Viewing received messages in the Inbox Message The messages you received are stored in the Inbox. To open Inbox and view received messages: 1. In standby mode, press the left soft key, Select. 2. Press Select. 3. Scroll to Inbox and press Select. A list of received messages will appear on the screen. The icon that appears in front of a message indicates the status and type of it.
The Main Menu • Use number: Capture the numbers in the message. The numbers captured will appear on the screen. Scroll to a number and press Select. You can call the number directly or save it in Phone Book. • Callback: Make a call to the sender of current message. • Open Chatroom: Open a new chatroom session with the sender of current message. You can also add other members to the chatroom. Templates are frequently used phrases preset in phone memory.
The Main Menu Erasing all messages Message This function allows you to erase all messages in Inbox and Outbox. 1. In standby mode, press the left soft key, Select. 2. Press Select. 3. Scroll to Erase all and press Select. 4. Press Erase. Multimedia messages You can write and send multimedia messages. Your phone supports MMS (Multimedia Messaging Service) standard which allows you to insert color picture, sound, animation and melodies..., etc. in a message and to send the message to an e-mail address.

Note • Each multimedia message size can not be over 30KB. • Each page of the multimedia message allows a maximum of 1,000 Latin characters or Chinese characters(including space and symbols). • You can add up to 5 pages into a multimedia message. • Your phone support the following multimedia objects formats: Picture: JEPG, GIF87,GIF89, WBMP, PNG. Sound: iMelody, MDI, SP-MIDI.

Press Options and you can also choose to perform the following operations to selected message. • Send: Send the message immediately. You will be prompted to enter the number of the recipients. You can also press Options, scroll to Add recipient and press Select. Scroll to Number and press Select to pick up one recipient from your Phone Book by pressing Names.
The Main Menu Note Inbox, Outbox and Multimedia center share memory of total 315KB. It will be allocated automatically by your phone. Therefore, the number of the multimedia messages that can be stored in Inbox and Outbox will depend on the memory size of the multimedia messages you received(sent) and the remaining space of the Inbox/Outbox. When the memory is full, the icon will appear on the screen to remind you to delete some multimedia messages.

On the screen, your chat messages follows the ">" symbol and your nickname, and the chat messages from other chat members follow the "<" symbol and their nicknames. Enter the number of chat member, or pick a member from your Phone Book by pressing Names.

Press On (or Off).

If GSM network is not available, send messages via GSM network. • GSM only: Send messages via GSM network only. • GPRS only: Send messages via GPRS only. Message Checking message memory status The messages you received and the copy of your sent messages are stored in the memory in your phone and on the SIM card.

The Main Menu Call Meter The options in the Call Meter menu allow you to easily manage your phone call records. Call Meter Viewing missed call records This function can list the latest 10 missed call records. 1. In standby mode, press the left soft key. 2. Scroll to Call meter and press Select. 3. Press Select. The list of missed calls will appear on the screen. Each call record is represented by the name of the caller.

Viewing call time information You can check the duration of your phone calls with this function. The information includes the duration of the last call, all calls, received calls and dialed calls. To view call time information: 1. In standby mode, press the left soft key. 2. Scroll to Call meter and press Select. 3.

In standby mode, press the left soft key. 2. Scroll to Call meter and press Select. 3. Scroll to GPRS data counter and press Select. 4. Scroll to an item below and press Select to view corresponding information: • Last sent: Display the total size of data you last sent. • Last received: Display the total size of data you last received.

The Main Menu Call Feature The options in the Call Feature menu allows you to access advanced call features. Call Feature Note Some of the call features described in this section are operator dependent. Please consult your operator for availability. Call divert If for any reason you can not answer a call, you can activate the call divert function to direct incoming calls to a specific phone number. If Call divert function is activated, the icon will appear on the screen.
The Main Menu Inquiring status To inquire the service status of specific call divert function, scroll to Status and press Select in step 6 above. Call Feature Diverting data or fax calls To activate call divert function for vioce calls: 1. In standby mode, press the left soft key. 2. Scroll to Call feature and press Select. 3. Press Select. 4. Scroll to Fax calls (to divert Fax calls) or Data calls (to divert data calls) and press Select two times. 5.
The Main Menu Deactivating call waiting To cancel call waiting, scroll to Off and press Select in step 4 above. Inquiring status Call barring With Call barring function, you can bar (restrict) incoming and outgoing calls under certain conditions. Note You need network code to activate/deactivate call barring function. Such code is available from your operator. Barring outgoing calls To bar outgoing calls: 1. In standby mode, press the left soft key. 2. Scroll to Call feature and press Select. 3.
The Main Menu To inquire the service status of call barring function, scroll to Status and press Select in step 7 above. Barring incoming calls Call Feature To bar incoming calls: 1. In standby mode, press the left soft key. 2. Scroll to Call feature and press Select. 3. Scroll to Call barring and press Select. 4. Scroll to Incoming calls and press Select. 5. Scroll to a desired barring condition: • When roaming: bar all incoming calls when roaming. • All calls: bar all incoming calls. 6. Press Select. 7.

If your number is hidden, it will not be shown to the person who receives your call. To show/hide your number: 1. In standby mode, press the left soft key. 2.

Call Feature Flip answer If the flip answer function is activated, when phone flip is closed, simply open the flip to answer the call. Otherwise, you have to open the flip and press key or any key(except End and key) to answer the call. 1. In standby mode, press the left soft key. 2.
The Main Menu Talk and Fax If you have subscribed the fax service to your operator and you have activated this function, you can send or receive fax after making a voice call. To activate/deactivate the talk and fax function: 1. In standby mode, press the left soft key. 2. Scroll to Call feature and press Select. 3. Scroll to Talk and Fax and press On (to activate it) or Off (to deactivate!it).
The Main Menu Sound The options in the Sound menu allows you to setup the sound settings of your phone. Sound Sound profiles A sound profile is a combination of sound settings. Your phone provides 6 pre-configured sound profiles and you can select one that fits your circumstances to use. For example, in a meeting, you can select to use the Meeting profile. You can also configure these profiles according to your preferences.
The Main Menu Customizing a sound profile To customize a sound profile: 1. In standby mode, press the left soft key. 2. Scroll to Sound and press Select. 3. Press Select. 4. Scroll to the sound profile you want to customize and press Select. 5. Scroll to Customize and press Select. 6. Use the following options to customize settings. Scroll to each option and press Select to customize. • Ringing volume: Scroll to a desired ringing volume and press OK. 5 volume levels are available.
The Main Menu • Startup music: Press On, your phone will play music when the phone power is turned on/off. Press Off to deactivate it. Renaming a sound profile Sound 1. In standby mode, press the left soft key. 2. Scroll to Sound and press Select. 3. Press Select. 4. Scroll to the sound profile you want to rename and press Select. 5. Scroll to Rename and press Select. 5. Enter the new name and press OK. Note The Headset profiles can’t be renamed.

Move the note one octave down. Insert a rest. Up Down Left Right Move selected symbol up on the staff. Move selected symbol down on the staff. Select previous symbol. Select next symbol. When selecting a note, inserting a note, moving selected note up/down or changing the length of the note, corresponding tone is played.

In standby mode, press the left soft key. 2. Scroll to Phone setup and press Select. 3. Press Select. 4. Scroll to preferred language and press OK.
