DESCRIPTION:
The Zodiac SmartCard Fingerprint Reader operates by reading a user’s template stored in a contactless SmartCard or
self-adhesive BioPatch for ID verification prior to gaining access. The stick-on BioPatch can be affixed to existing
access cards or devices such as PDAs or cell phones. Once the card or BioPatch is presented to the Zodiac reader, the
user’s ID number and encrypted fingerprint template are extracted. An indicator on the sensor is activated to prompt the
user to present their finger. The reader then compares the scanned fingerprint to the template stored in the Zodiac
credential. If they match, the User ID and Facility Code are transmitted to the host access control system.
USING ZODIAC
:
Note: The user must first be enrolled at a Zodiac Enrollment Station and be assigned a Zodiac ID SmartCard or
BioPatch.
1. To authenticate at a Zodiac Fingerprint Reader, the user first presents the SmartCard or BioPatch to the front of
the reader. The card should be held steadily until the fingerprint sensor on Zodiac flickers RED, indicating a
successful transfer of the user’s template . The Zodiac credential can now be removed.
2. After the Zodiac credential is presented successfully, the user applies their finger to the sensor for verification.
Note: When applying the finger to the sensor, the same pressure should be used as during the enrollment
process.
3. If the fingerprint verification is successful, Zodiac will transmit the user’s ID and system code information to the
access control system to verify if the user has access through the entrance or exit being controlled.
ZODIAC LED INDICATORS AND BEEPER
:
Zodiac has two Bi-Color (RED/GREEN) LED’s to provide visual indication of verification and access status from the host
access control system. In addition, Zodiac has a beeper which is controlled by the access control system.
LEFT LED: This LED provides indication of successful or unsuccessful fingerprint verification.
SUCCESSFUL FINGERPRINT VERIFICATION:
If the fingerprint is verified successfully, this LED turns GREEN momentarily.
UNSUCCESSFUL FINGERPRINT VERIFICATION:
If the fingerprint is NOT
verified successfully, this LED flashes RED and beeps four times rapidly.
RIGHT LED: This LED is controlled by the host access control system and is intended to indicate “Access Granted
(GREEN) or “Access Denied (RED)”.
BEEPER: The internal beeper is controlled by the host access control system.
