General Notes (Free Layout) When using Canon imagePROGRAF Free Layout (hereafter Free Layout), the following restrictions apply. Please familiarize yourself with them before using it. • Free Layout supports Canon IJ CUPS Printer Driver Ver. 15.0.0 or later for OS X, which supports roll paper feeding. • This guide primarily provides explanations using the screens that are displayed when you use OS X Yosemite v10.10.
The Features of Free Layout The main features of Free Layout are as follows. • Allows you to lay out at will and print a document created with application software. • You can not only lay out multiple pages on one page but also lay out and print a multiple-file document on one page, or lay out and print a document created with multiple application programs on one page.
Starting Free Layout Follow the procedure below to start the Free Layout. 1. Open Print dialog box. From the application software's File menu, select the printer setup menu to open the Print dialog box. Note • Normally, select Print from the File menu. 2. From PDF pop-up menu, select Canon imagePROGRAF Free Layout. Click the PDF pop-up menu and select Canon imagePROGRAF Free Layout from the list. Free Layout main window is displayed.
Important • You start Free Layout from a PDF pop-up menu. Therefore, it cannot be started with application software that does not allow use of a PDF pop-up menu.

Free Layout Main Window The Free Layout main window consists of a menu bar, tool bar and layout area. Note • You can use the View menu to show or hide the tool. Menu Bar This allows you to select menus required for operations. Tool Bar This allows you to select tool buttons required for major operations.
Enlarge Enlarges an object. You can also set this with Enlarge in the View menu. Reduce Reduces an object. You can also set this with Reduce in the View menu. Zoom Displays the object with the specified scaling. You can also set this with the Zoom dialog box. Undo Cancels the last edit. You can also execute this with Undo in the Edit menu. Redo Restores the edit reversed with Undo. You can also execute this with Redo from the Edit menu. Cut Cuts the selected object.
• Tool buttons that can be added Fit to Width You can change the zoom scaling of part of the preview in the selected window so as to fit the width of the printing area of one page. You can also set this with Fit to Width in the View menu. Fit Screen You can change the zoom scaling of part of the preview in the selected window so as to display the entire printing area of one page. You can also set this with Fit Screen in the View menu. Delete Deletes the selected object.
Rotate Left Rotates the selected object 90 degrees counterclockwise. You can also set this with Rotate Left in the Object menu. Layout Area This allows you to lay out objects and edit the object size and orientation. Note • You can switch between showing and hiding the ruler and grid on the View menu. Set the ruler unit and grid display settings in the Preferences Dialog Box.
Preferences Dialog Box This dialog box appears when you select Preferences from the Canon imagePROGRAF Free Layout menu. You can set the Free Layout preferences. Units Select the ruler unit. Gridlines You can input a grid line width value in numerical characters so that they serve as a guide to laying out objects. Note • You can input between 10.0 and 200.0(mm) (between 0.39 and 7.87(inch)). • You can change the numbers by clicking either button or button.
Print Click the check box to print the object border. Style Click the Print check box to enable this. You can select the object frame style for printing. The following settings are available for the object frame style. Setting Details Solid Line You can print the solid line as the frame style. Dotted Line You can print the dotted line as the frame style. Dashed Line You can print the dashed line as the frame style.
Page Setup Dialog Box This dialog box appears when you select Page Setup from the File menu.This dialog box provides selections for setting the media size, orientation and other important features. These settings are applied to the Layout Area of the main window. Paper Size You can select the size of the print media. Orientation This selects the paper orientation. The following settings are available for orientation.
Print Dialog Box This dialog box appears when you select Print from the File menu. Print from this dialog box. Printer Select a printer to use for printing. Do not print the lower end margin This appears when you click Show Details. Clicking Do not print the lower end margin creates a print object that does not include the lower end margin. Print Click to start printing. Important • If you select a printer that does not support Free Layout, the following message appears.
Zoom Dialog Box This dialog box appears when you select Zoom from the View menu. You can enlarge or reduce the screen display. Scaling Set the magnification for enlargement or reduction of the screen display. Note • You can input between 10 and 400. • You can change the numbers by clicking button.
Format Dialog Box This dialog box appears when you select Format from the Object menu after you select an object. You can rotate, enlarge, or reduce an object. Note • When the objects are not selected, you can not select Format. Rotate When you place a checkmark here, you can select Rotate Right or Rotate Left. Setting Details Rotate Right Rotates the object 90 degrees clockwise. Rotate Left Rotates the object 90 degrees counterclockwise.
Object Size You can confirm the object size. Note • When several objects are selected, you cannot display Object Size.

Laying out a Multiple-File Document on One Page You can lay out and print a multiple-file document on one page. 1. Open Print dialog box. From the application software's File menu, select the printer setup menu to open the Print dialog box. Note • Normally, select Print from the File menu. 2. From PDF pop-up menu, select Canon imagePROGRAF Free Layout. Click the PDF pop-up menu and select Canon imagePROGRAF Free Layout from the list.
Laying out a Document Created with Multiple Application Programs on One Page You can lay out and print a document created with multiple application programs on one page. 1. Open Print dialog box. From the application software's File menu, select the printer setup menu to open the Print dialog box. Note • Normally, select Print from the File menu. 2. From PDF pop-up menu, select Canon imagePROGRAF Free Layout. Click the PDF pop-up menu and select Canon imagePROGRAF Free Layout from the list.
Selecting an Object To select an object, click that object. When an object is selected, a select box (blue border) appears around the object. To select multiple objects, perform the following. • To select multiple successive objects, click them while holding down the shift key. • To select multiple arbitrary objects, click them while holding down the command key. • To select all objects, select Select All from the Edit menu.
Changing the Object Size You can change the object size by means of mouse operation or by specifying a scaling value. Note • The vertical-to-horizontal ratio remains unchanged when the object is enlarged or reduced. Resizing by means of mouse operation 1. Select an object. 2. Change object size. Place the pointer at a corner of the selection box around the object to show the arrow handle, and drag this handle to change the object size. Resizing by specifying a scaling value 1. Moving an Object You can move the object position. 1. Select an object. 2. Moving an Object Place the pointer inside the selection box of the object to show the crosshair handle, and drag it to move the object.
Rotating an Object You can rotate the object. 1. Select an object. 2. Select rotation direction. You can select Rotate Left or Rotate Right from the Object menu. Alternatively, you may click on the Rotate check box in the Format Dialog Box then select Rotate Right or Rotate Left, and click the OK button. Note • If several objects are selected, you cannot select Rotate.
Laying out Objects Automatically You can arrange the Layout Area objects automatically. 1. Select Auto Arrange. Click Auto Arrange from the toolbar. Alternatively, select Auto Arrange Object from the Object menu. This automatically arranges all objects. Note • The arrangement of the objects is determined by the settings in Auto Arrange Spacing and Order in the Preferences Dialog Box.
Aligning Objects You can align objects systematically. 1. Select multiple objects. 2. Select how to align objects. Select the align menu from the Object menu. Align Top Lays out the objects, justifying them to the top. Center Vertically Lays out the objects, justifying them to the vertical center. Align Bottom Lays out the objects, justifying them to the bottom. Align Left Lays out the objects, justifying them to the left.
Center Horizontally Lays out the objects, justifying them to the horizontal center. Align Right Lays out the objects, justifying them to the right.
Changing the Object Overlapping Order You can change the object overlapping order. 1. Select an object. 2. Select object overlapping order. Select the overlapping order menu from the Object menu. Bring to Front Moves the object to the frontmost position. Send to Back Moves the object to the backmost position. Bring Forward Moves the object one position to the front. Send Backward Moves the object one position to the back.
Pasting a Copied or Cut Object 1. Select an object. Select an object to copy or cut. 2. Select how to edit objects. Click Copy or Cut from the toolbar. Alternatively, you may select Copy or Cut from the Edit menu. 3. Paste Copy or Cut object. Click Paste from the toolbar. Alternatively, you may select Paste from the Edit menu. Note • The copied or cut object is laid out at the end of the page.
