Description:
InstallingaBudderflyadaptertransformsyourbuilding’sexistingwiringintothe“BudderflyOpenNetwork”andallowsthe
adaptertomonitorenergyconsumptionandcommunicatethedatatoafacilitycontroller.
BudderflyadaptorswillusetheexistingpowerlineandtheRFforcommunicationandthusrequirenoreͲwiring.
Usingour
Budderflysoftware,youcanvisualizeconsumptiondataandmanageeachindividualadapter.
The Budderfly MultiͲWay light switch is a component of the Budderfly system and designed to work with all other
Budderflydevices.Itisa plugͲandͲplayreplacementforyour existinglightswitch. Onceinstalled,the Budderfly
switches
alsoactasrepeaterstoextendtherangeofthenetworkandincreaseefficiency.
Thisdeviceisdesignedforuseonlywithpermanentlyinstalledfixtures.
Installation:
TheBudderflyMultiͲWaylightswitchmaybeusedinnewinstallationsortoreplaceanexistingwallswitch.Itcouldbeusedeitherasa2Ͳwayswitch,orasa3Ͳwayswitch.Thewiring
stepsforbothconfigurationsareexplainedinthefollowingdiagrams:

3ͲWayConfiguration:
1. Atthecircuitbreakerorfusepanel,disconnectthepowerforallofthecircuitsin
theswitchjunctionbox.
2. Double Check that the power is OFF to the switch box before continuing by
tryingtoturnonthecontrolledload.
3. Remove the wall plate from the switch you are replacing.
Then, unscrew the
switchitselfandpullitoutfromthejunctionbox.
4. Disconnectthewiresfromtheswitchyouarereplacing.
5. Followthewiringinformationprovidedbelowtoconnectthewiresasfollows:
o ConnecttheGROUNDwire(usuallyBareCopperorGreen)totheGroundwire
ofBudderflySwitch
(Yellow&Green).
o 2ͲWayconfiguration:
ConnecttheLOADwire(usuallyBlack)thatgoestothelight tothe
Traveler#1(Red)wireofBudderflySwitch.
o 3ͲWayconfiguration:
ConnecttheTraveler#1(UsuallyRed)andTraveler#2(UsuallyBlue)wires
oftheStandardMultiͲWaySwitchtotheTraveler#1
(Red)andTraveler#2
(Blue)wiresofBudderflySwitchrespectively.
ConnecttheLOADwire(usuallyBlack)thatgoestothelight totheLOAD
wire(usuallyBlack)oftheStandardMultiͲWaySwitch.
o ConnecttheLINEwire(usuallyBlack)thatcomesfromtheelectricalservice
paneltotheHOTwireof
BudderflySwitch(Black).
o ConnecttheNEUTRALwire(usuallyWhite)totheNeutralwireofBudderfly
Switch(White).
6. Afteryouhaveconnectedallofthewires,ensurethatallofthewireconnectors
arefirmlyattachedandthatthereisnoexposedcopperexceptfortheGROUND
wire.
7. GentlyplaceBudderfly
switch intothejunction box,orienting theunitwiththe
LEDbarontheleft.Then,screwtheswitchintoplace.
8. Reinstallthewallplate
9. Enablepowertotheswitchfromthecircuitbreakerorfusepanel
10. After the Power LED comes on, test that the switch is working properly
by
turningthelightonandoff
11. AddthedeviceaddresstotheBudderflywebapplication.

localregulationsintheUnitedStates.
x Ifyouarenotknowledgeableorcomfortablewithelectricalcircuitry,youshouldhaveaqualifiedelectricianinstall
theBudderflyMultiͲWaylightswitchforyou.

x InstalltheBudderflyswitchesindooronly.
x NeverusetheBud derflyswitchesto controlmedicaland/orlifesupportequipment.
x DonotusetheBu dderflyswitchestocontrolelectricheatersoranyotherapplianceswhichmaypresenta
hazardousconditionduetounattendedorunintentionalpoweroncont rol.
NeverusetheBudderflyswitcheswithloadsthatexceedthemaximumratingspecified.
WiringInformation
x Important:Budderflyswitchesareratedforandintendedtobeusedonlywith
copperwires.
x Use12AWGorlargerwiressuitablefor80
o.
x Remove3/4"(1.9cm)ofinsulationfromeachwire.
xConnectasfollows:Twiststrandsofeachendtightlytogether.Holdbareends
ofwirestogetherandpushfirmlyintowireNut.ScrewNutclockwisemaking
surethatnobareconductorshowsbelowtheconnector.
WARNING–ELECTRICALSHOCKHAZARD
x TurnOFFthepowertothebranchcircuitfortheswitchandlightingfixtureat
theservicepanel.
x AllwiringconnectionsmustbemadewiththePOWEROFFtoavoidpersonal
injuryand/ordamagetotheswitch.
