1. INTRODUCTION The Breitling Emergency is a small and light wristworn personal survival instrument equipped with both a multifunction analog-digital watch and an independent miniature distress beacon. The micro-transmitter of the Emergency is a dual frequency distress beacon belonging to the Personal Locator Beacon (PLB) category that transmits a digital signal on the 406 MHz frequency, along with an analog signal on the 121.5 MHz frequency.
Cospas-Sarsat cooperates with the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), International Maritime Organization (IMO), International Telecommunication Union (ITU), and other international organizations to ensure that Cospas-Sarsat distress alert services are compatible with the international community’s needs, standards, and recommendations. 3.2 406 MHz Frequency The Emergency transmitter watch broadcasts a digital signal on the 406 MHz frequency, lasting 0.44 second every 50 seconds.
4. CONDITIONS AND LIMITATIONS ON THE USE OF THE BEACON 5. USE OF THE BEACON IN CASE OF DISTRESS IMPORTANT: To avoid delaying rescue in case of an emergency, PLBs must be registered at the time of purchase with the national authority having jurisdiction or, for countries that allow it, directly on the online International 406 MHz Beacon Registration Database (IBRD) at www.406registration.com.
In case of distress, proceed as follows: 1. Remove the watch from wrist and hold it with the bracelet in the left hand, face of the watch up. Turn the main antenna cap A counter-clockwise until it comes completely unscrewed. The ring gives way and releases the cap. B A 3. Pick up the watch by its bracelet in the right hand so as to leave the left hand free to pull the secondary antenna. The secondary cap B opposite cap A has been automatically released. Withdraw this cap B and discard it.
3 1 2 E < 18 cm > < 18 cm > < 50 cm > 4. Alert transmission confirmation: as soon as the short antenna section A is deployed, a green indicator starts to blink at 12 o’clock on the dial, and continues doing so for the entire duration of the transmission. < 18 cm > Also avoid touching or handling the antenna sections with your hands, placing them in contact with the ground or with water, or immersing them in water. Once activated, the beacon will broadcast at least during 18 hours.
– – – Fixed on a wooden stick or a rock. Placed on a rucksack or a box. Suspended using a shoelace or a belt. The exact positioning of the beacon with its two antennas extended plays a decisive role in achieving optimal transmission conditions. The two antenna sections must be kept vertical, with the short section IN ALL CIRCUMSTANCES pointing upwards and the long section pointing downwards at a sufficient height to avoid the antenna touching ground (the far end of the long section must be 5-10 cm/2-4 in.
5.3 Stopping signal transmission In the event of accidental activation or as soon as the user has been rescued, it is important to immediately neutralize the distress signal transmission. IMPORTANT: As mentioned above, the Emergency beacon’s battery was developed especially for this product. So there is no equivalent or replacement product on the market. Only an authorized Breitling service center can replace the battery. 6.
1. Plug the charger/tester into an outside power source. The “POWER” indicator light turns green. 6.4 Charging complete but self-test not OK The “CHARGE” indicator light turns green but the “SELFTEST” indicator light as well as the indicator on the watch dial are red. In this case, the Emergency should not under any circumstances be used as a PLB. 2. Place the watch on the charger/tester. The "CHARGE" indicator light turns red. The indicator light on the watch dial turns red.
As mentioned above, if the battery has not been recharged within the recommended amount of time, the LED indicator on the watch dial will blink red. This blinking will last for about six months. After that, the battery will be fully discharged and therefore the indicator will stop blinking. However, as soon as the watch is placed on the charger, the system will automatically reactivate and can function normally after a standard recharge cycle. 8.
Press once on the crown: if the letter A or P is displayed, the time readout is in the 2x12H mode, as for example: 9.3 Adjusting the seconds If the watch loses or gains a few seconds, after some time on the wrist for instance or following setting operations, it can be easily reset to the exact second. Select and display local time. before noon after noon Note: when the timer readout is in the 2x12H mode, a small P appears next to the hour figure between noon and midnight.
Rotate the crown forward or backward: if rotated rapidly, the month will change; if rotated slowly, the date will change. Push the crown back in: the seconds digits replace the month. 9.6 Synchronizing the analog and digital time display After a battery replacement or, exceptionally, a manipulation error, it may be necessary to synchronize the time shown by the hands with that displayed by the digital readout. Select the neutral position.
Rotate the crown backward or forward quickly, causing the hands to move in either direction by a full hour with each rotation. To cancel an ongoing countdown operation: Select the TM (timer) function. Push the crown back in. Press the crown during more than two seconds: the timer will return to zero. Please remember not to rotate the crown slowly after rotating it rapidly to change timezones. 10.2 Displaying a second timezone 10.
10.3 Using the chronograph 10.4 Using the alarm function Select the CHR (chronograph) function. Press the crown to start the chronograph. Press the crown again to stop the chrono graph. A further press on the crown will restart the chronograph, allowing a series of short times to be measured and added together. Select the AL (alarm) function. Pull the crown out: the digits will flash.
11. SPECIAL CHARACTERISTICS Battery end-of-line indicator (EOL) The watch’s movement includes a battery end-of-life (EOL) warning system, signalled by the digital readout’s flashing mode. The battery must be replaced within the next few days by an authorized Breitling dealer. Also ask for a water resistance test to be performed on the watch. Breitling models are water-resistant to varying degrees. The extent of the water resistance is expressed in meters (M) on the back of each case.
What to avoid YOUR BREITLING CHRONOMETER Like any valuable objects, Breitling chronometers deserve special care. It is important to protect them from jarring and knocks by hard objects, and not to expose them to chemical products, solvents, dangerous gases, or magnetic fields.
