B Getting Started 1 Introduction AF T The Motorola SURFboard® SBG6782 DOCSIS® 3.0 Wireless Cable Modem Gateway is a combination wireless cable modem, router, and MoCA (Multimedia over Coax ) device that provides wireless highspeed data and multimedia service access on your home network. With built-in MoCA technology, the SBG6782 also provides high-speed Internet access to multiple MoCA-enabled devices using the existing coaxial cable connection in your home.

B Installing the Gateway 3 This product is for indoor use only. Do not route the Ethernet cable outside of the building. Exposure of the cables to lightning could create a safety hazard and damage the product. AF T Connecting to Your Computer Before installing the gateway: • Check with your service provider to ensure high-speed Internet service is available in your area. • Choose a location where your computer and gateway are preferably near existing cable and electrical wall outlets.
B 5. Plug the power cord into the Power port on the gateway. 6. Plug the other end of the power cord into an electrical outlet. This automatically powers ON the gateway. Connecting Your MoCA-Enabled Devices You can also connect your MoCA-enabled devices, such as a multi-room DVR, to the SBG6782. You will need to use an RF cable splitter and an additional coaxial cable to connect the device and SBG6782 to the same cable wall outlet.
B 1. Click the Start button from the Taskbar on your desktop to select Network Connections. Note: Additional selections may be necessary for Windows 7 systems. 2. Step through to open the Local Area Connection Properties window. 3. Select Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) option and click Properties to open the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) Properties window. 4. Select Obtain an IP address automatically and Obtain DNS server address automatically. 5.
B Setting Up a Wireless Network Connection 4 You cannot set up a wireless network connection or connect wireless devices without being able to access a broadband or high-speed Internet service from your computer. There are two options available for setting up a wireless network connection: Changing Your Computer Wireless Network Options Using the WPS Pairing Button AF T • • After setting up your wireless network connection, make sure to check that the wireless network connection was set up properly.
B Testing Your Wireless Network Connection Perform the following test to verify that your wireless network is set up properly and all the devices were connected properly. 1. If you installed the SBG6782 using the wired Ethernet connection option, disconnect the Ethernet cable from the rear of the gateway and your computer. 2. Open a web browser on your computer, such as Internet Explorer, Firefox, Google Chrome, or Safari. 3. Type a valid URL (www.motorola.com) in the address bar and click or press Enter.
B Troubleshooting 5 If the solutions listed in this section do not solve your problem, contact your service provider for assistance. You may have to reset the SBG6782 gateway configuration to its original factory settings if the gateway is not functioning properly.
