1. Set Up Your System Setting up your Arlo Q camera involves a few simple steps: Get the Arlo app, and then use the app to get an Arlo account and connect your camera to your network. Your Arlo account lets you view videos from any Internet-connected computer or mobile device. You can use the same Arlo app to set up and manage both Arlo Q and Arlo Wire‑Free Cameras. Connect Your Arlo Q or Arlo Q Plus Camera You can connect your Arlo Q camera using WiFi.
Set Up Your System 2. Connect the other end of the micro USB cable to the power adapter. 3. Plug the USB adapter into a wall socket and wait for the camera LED to blink amber. 4. Continue installing your camera. For more information, see Set Up a New Camera on page 8. Connect an Arlo Q Plus Camera With PoE ¾¾ To connect an Arlo Q Plus camera with PoE: 1. Connect the PoE adapter to the camera. 2. Connect your own Ethernet cable to the PoE adapter. 3.
Set Up Your System Connect an Arlo Q Plus Camera With Ethernet ¾¾ To connect an Arlo Q Plus camera with Ethernet: 1. Connect the PoE adapter to the back of your camera. 5 6 1 4 2 2. Connect the included micro USB cable to the side of the PoE adapter. 5. Connect the other end of the micro USB cable to the USB power adapter. 6.
Set Up Your System You can also enter arlo.netgear.com in the address bar of a browser. If you are using a mobile device with a Touch ID® fingerprint identity sensor, you are prompted to enable Touch ID or skip. 2. To use Touch ID, tap Enable Touch ID. If you tap Skip, you can turn on the Arlo app fingerprint ID login later. See Turn the Arlo App Fingerprint ID Login On and Off on page 48. 3. Click or tap New System Setup. A list of cameras displays. 4. Click or tap the camera that you want to set up.
Set Up Your System If you use an existing Arlo Wire-free system, do not sync your Arlo Q camera to your base station. 9. Press the Sync button on your camera until the blue LED starts blinking. A slow blinking blue LED indicates that the camera is connecting to a WiFi network. A fast blinking blue LED indicates that the camera is connecting to Arlo servers. 10. Click or tap Continue. 11. Hold the QR code 4 to 8 inches (10 to 20 cm) in front of the camera until you hear a chime sound. 12.

Set Up Your System 17. Hold your camera in front of your monitor or hold your smartphone or mobile device in front of your camera until you hear a chime sound. 18. If you hear a chime sound, click or tap Yes. 19. If you do not hear a chime sound, click or tap No and follow the onscreen instructions. Arlo Q Camera Position When positioning your Arlo Q camera, keep these tips in mind: • Avoid positioning the camera in an area that gets a lot of light shining directly into the camera lens.
Set Up Your System 2. Place the wall plate and secure it in place with four screws. Note: If you’re mounting the camera to drywall, be sure to use the plastic drywall anchors that are provided. 3. Slide the camera into the wall plate. Arlo Q also comes with a magnetic plate that can attach to any flat steel or iron surface. (Magnets do not stick to aluminum or stainless steel.) Caution: Do not attempt to mount the Arlo Q camera to a half-dome Arlo Wire‑free Camera mount.
2. View Your Content Videos recorded by your camera are stored in a library. You can view your recordings and snapshots, mark them as favorites, and search using the filter. View the Cameras Page When you launch the Arlo app, the Cameras page displays.
View Your Content View Camera Feeds You can view your Arlo Q camera feeds at any time. ¾¾ To view camera feeds: 1. Tap the Arlo icon on your mobile device. If you are using a computer, enter arlo.netgear.com in the address bar of a browser. The Cameras page displays. The icons above each camera feed depend on the rules in the currenty selected mode and how the camera is connected.. For information about these icons, see View the Cameras Page on page 14. 2.

This can take up to five seconds. When the button is bright green, Talk and Listen is ready. 5.

3. Use an SD Card With Arlo Q Plus All recordings are stored to the cloud, but with an Arlo Q Plus camera, you can use an SD card as a backup location to store recordings. Simply insert an SD card and the camera automatically enables all the settings for you. The SD card cannot be used on its own as a substitute for cloud recording. If you put an SD card in the camera, the camera records to both the cloud and the SD card for motion-triggered and audio-triggered recordings (not CVR).
Use an SD Card With Arlo Q Plus ¾¾ To view the status of of the SD card for a camera: 1. Tap the Arlo icon on your mobile device. If you are using a computer, enter arlo.netgear.com in the address bar of a browser. The Cameras page displays. 2. Click or tap Settings > My Devices. A list of cameras displays. 3. Click or tap the camera. The camera settings display. 4. In the Storage section, click or tap SD Card. The SD Card Status shows whether the SD card is ready, needs to be formatted, or is full.
Use an SD Card With Arlo Q Plus 5. Click or tap Safely Eject SD Card. The settings on the page dim to show that the SD card is ejected. The camera stops recording onto the SD card. The SD card can now be safely removed. 6. To release the SD card, press the edge of the card to push it into the slot. The SD card ejects. View Video Clips on an SD Card Video clips on the SD cards do not display in the Arlo app, but you can use a Windows or Mac computer to view the clips.
Use an SD Card With Arlo Q Plus Change the SD Card Overwrite Setting By default, if the SD card fills up, the oldest recording is erased to make room for new recordings. You can change this setting if you want. ¾¾ To change the SD card overwrite setting: 1. Tap the Arlo icon on your mobile device. If you are using a computer, enter arlo.netgear.com in the address bar of a browser. The Cameras page displays. 2. Click or tap Settings > My Devices. A list of cameras displays. 3. Click or tap the camera.

Name Your Camera You can easily customize your Arlo Q camera by renaming it. ¾¾ To rename your Arlo Q camera: 1. Tap the Arlo icon on your mobile device. Grant Access to Friends You can add friends to your Arlo account. Friends can view live streams from your cameras; record video clips; view, share, mark as favorite, and delete clips from your library; and take snapshots. Friends are granted limited access to some of the settings and features of your Arlo account.
Personalize Your Camera An email is sent inviting the friend to create an Arlo account. This friend’s name is displayed with the status Pending. When a friend accepts your invitation, the status changes to Accepted. Edit a Friend’s Access Privileges ¾¾ To edit a friend’s access privileges: 1. Tap the Arlo icon on your mobile device. 5. Modes, Rules, and Smart Alerts Modes let you use rules to set and control automated actions. With modes, Arlo Q can be on the lookout for you, even when you are not using the Arlo app. Arlo Q comes with the following modes: Armed. Detection is on for this camera. Disarmed. Detection is off for this camera. Schedule. Manage detection based on a schedule. Geofencing. You can use geofencing to arm, disarm, or resume a schedule mode when you arrive at or leave a given location based on your mobile device.

The mode that you selected turns on immediately. The mode stays active until you change it. When you view the Cameras page, the icons that display at the top of the camera feed are based on the currently selected mode: Motion. Motion detection is on. Sound. Audio detection is on.

To receive Arlo notifications on your phone, you must get the Arlo app. Note: If you log out of the Arlo app on your smartphone or mobile device, you will stop receiving push notifications. ¾¾ To change the alert settings for a camera: 1. Modes, Rules, and Smart Alerts Set Up Geofencing Geofencing is a virtual fence that helps you discover when something or someone enters or exits a predefined zone. You can use Arlo geofencing to arm, disarm, or resume schedule modes, when your mobile device is in zone or out of zone. To set up geofencing, you must use your mobile device and you must allow the Arlo app to use your location. Configure Your Mobile Device ¾¾ To configure your mobile device for more accurate geofencing: 1.

Radius size options are Small, Medium, or Large (approximately 150 meters, 250 meters, and 500 meters, respectively). 8. Enter a name for your location and tap Next. The Away Mode page displays a list of available modes. The away mode is the detection mode used by the camera when you are away from the location that you specified. 9. Select an away mode and tap Next.

Tap the Arlo icon on your mobile device. The Cameras page displays. 2. Tap Mode. A list of cameras displays. 3. Click or tap the camera. A list of available modes displays. 4. Tap the Geofencing edit icon. The Geofencing editing page displays. 5. Tap Enabled Devices.
Modes, Rules, and Smart Alerts To improve geofencing accuracy, ensure that your mobile device meets these conditions: • WiFi is turned on. • GPS or location services are turned on. Geofencing First In Last Out Arlo cameras use the first in, last out principal within the geofencing feature. First in, last out allows you to come and go without worrying about arming and disarming your Arlo cameras.

Add a Mode You can add new modes to tell your Arlo Q camera what to do in certain situations. For example, you can set your Arlo Q camera to record videos when the motion sensor is activated and to alert you with an email message. You can use the rules you create within modes and schedules to customize your Arlo Q camera. With Arlo Q cameras, you can create one rule for each mode.
Modes, Rules, and Smart Alerts • Lower the sensitivity percentage to decrease the number of videos that Arlo captures. • To specify motion detection zones, click or tap the zone. 8. When prompted, specify what you want the camera to do when motion or audio is detected and click or tap Next. You can select Record video, Take snapshot, or Do nothing. 11.

6. Settings You can customize the Arlo Q settings. Turn the Arlo App Fingerprint ID Login On and Off The Arlo app supports Touch ID fingerprint identity sensors. If you are using a mobile device with this feature, you can turn the Arlo app Touch ID login on and off. ¾¾ To turn the Arlo app Touch ID login on and off: 1. Tap the Arlo icon on your mobile device. The Cameras page displays. 2. Tap Settings. The Settings page displays. 3. Tap Profile. The Profile page displays. 4.

If you are using a computer, click Save. Your settings are saved. Status LED The status LED on the Arlo Q lights in different colors. You can turn off the status LED. The Arlo Q status LED is color coded. Solid amber The camera is booting. Solid blue The camera is powered on and is connected to Arlo servers.

If you are using a mobile device, your settings are saved. 5. If you are using a computer, click Save. Your settings are saved. Change the Video Resolution The default video resolution is 720P. You can change this setting to a higher or lower resolution. Decreasing the resolution of Arlo Q videos reduces the required WiFi bandwidth.

Turn Night Vision On and Off When night vision is enabled, the camera automatically turns on infrared (IR) LEDs to record in low light conditions. We recommend that you turn off night vision if the Arlo Q camera is facing reflective surfaces, such as windows. ¾¾ To turn night vision on and off: 1. Tap the Arlo icon on your mobile device.

7. Manage Your Subscription Plan Every Arlo Q camera includes free Basic service that offers basic features and functionality. When activating your Arlo Q camera, you can choose between the Basic, Premier, and Elite service plans. Subscription Plans Upgrading to a paid service level gives you the ability to expand your Arlo Q camera to suit your specific needs. Depending on your service level, you can add cameras or cloud storage and share recordings with friends and family.
Manage Your Subscription Plan 4. Click or tap Change Subscription. The Subscription Plan page displays. 5. To change to a Premier or Elite plan, click or tap SELECT. 6. Follow the onscreen instructions to change your subscription. After your payment is processed, your service level information is updated on the Subscription page. Start or Stop a Continuos Video Recording Plan Continuous video recording, or CVR, is an optional feature available on Arlo Q cameras.
8. Continuous Video Recording Continuous video recording, or CVR, is an optional feature available on Arlo Q cameras. CVR records all the action 24/7 so that you can rewind any camera to any minute of any day and catch anything that you missed. CVR captures everything in the background, and you can access any time by tapping or clicking the Timeline icon above the camera feed. Arlo Q records CVR in addition to recordings that the camera records because of rules.
Continuous Video Recording Navigate Through the Timeline ¾¾ To navigate through the timeline: 1. Tap the Arlo icon on your mobile device. If you are using a computer, enter arlo.netgear.com in the address bar of a browser. The Cameras page displays. 2. Click or tap the Timeline icon above the camera feed. The Timeline page displays. 3. Click and hold or tap and hold the timeline. 4. On a smartphone or mobile device, drag the timeline.
Continuous Video Recording View the Timeline Calendar As the camera records CVR content, it notes when motion or sound was detected during the continuous recording. For these indicators to display in the timeline, a mode configured with motion or sound triggers must be armed. For information about modes, see Select a Mode on page 33. ¾¾ To view the timeline calendar: 1. Tap the Arlo icon on your mobile device. If you are using a computer, enter arlo.netgear.com in the address bar of a browser.
9. Troubleshooting Manage Bandwidth for Streaming The bandwidth used by Arlo Q cameras depends on the resolution setting for the camera. Maximum bandwidth usage when streaming is as follows: • 1080P. 1500 kbps • 720P. 700 kbps • 480P. 300 kbps • 360P. 200 kbps • 240P. 100 kbps If a camera detects low bandwidth, the Arlo system automatically reduces the setting of the video stream to accommodate the lower bandwidth. The bandwidth values are for each individual camera.
Troubleshooting Check the Rules Settings for Armed Modes Check the rules in your modes. Make sure that Push Notification is enabled in the Armed mode or in a custom mode if you created one. ¾¾ To check push notification when you use an Armed mode: 1. Tap the Arlo icon on your mobile device. If you are using a computer, enter arlo.netgear.com in the address bar of a browser. The Cameras page displays. 2. Click or tap the Mode button. A list of cameras displays. 3. Select the Arlo Q camera.
Troubleshooting Check the Arlo App Settings on an Android Device ¾¾ To allow Arlo push notifications on Android devices: 1. Tap the Settings icon for your Android device. 2. Tap Application Manager > Arlo. The Arlo notification settings display. 3. Make sure that the Show Notifications setting is enabled.
