LR-911 Long-Range Reader for Passive Tags
Vehicle Mounting Recommendations for Windshield Tag (WS)
AWID's WS tag is designed for one kind of installation, on the inside of a vehicular windshield.
When the removable waxed label on the WS is peeled off, adhesive is exposed. That side of the tag
should be placed on the inside of the vehicle's windshield (clean please!) at a location where there is
no tinting or embedded wires for antenna or defrost, and where there is direct line of sight from the
tag to the LR-911 reader. The tag should then be pressed gently against the windshield glass on the
outer edges only, so that it is tightly connected. Mounting the WS to your windshield by taping it
(not removing the waxed label) will greatly decrease the read range!! This is an aggressive
adhesive, so it does attach firmly to the glass. It is ideal to apply the tags so that they approximate
facing the reader (parallel to the reader's surface). The recommended mounting area is the lower
left corner of the windshield (assuming the LR-911 reader is on the left side of the entry lane), just
above the area where an inspection sticker would be mounted. Great care should be taken to avoid
any metallic tinting or defroster coils and also to insure that the location of the tag does not impair
the operators path of vision. Metallic content in the vehicles’ windshield can significantly impair
the readers’ ability to read the windshield sticker, this problem is more often experienced with high-
end European sedans and domestic vehicles with rain sensing wiper features and some defroster
options. Identifying a windshield with metallic content can be as easy as looking at the outside of
the windshield from the side while wearing polarized sunglasses – if the windshield appears to have
a purple hue, it is probably due to metal content. If you suspect that your windshield has significant
metallic content, allow the system administrator or installing technicians to test your windshield
using a hand held tag (GMWS or MT) prior to adhering the WS tag to your windshield.
BE VERY CAREFUL NOT TO APPLY PRESSURE TO THE CHIP
IN THE CENTER OF THE TAG
