Quick Start Instructions: 1) Batteries - This weather radio operates on AC power or four (4) AA alkaline batteries (not supplied). To install batteries, remove battery hatch and insert batteries into the compartment on the underside of the unit. 2) AC Power Adapter - Plug the radio into a standard 120 volt outlet. Plug the AC adapter into the back of the radio at input marked DC 6V 300mA. 3) Program the Time - Press and release the MENU button. “TIME” will be displayed. Press and release the SELECT button.

Your new weather radio is the latest in weather and hazard alert monitoring technology, providing you with the information needed to keep you safe. This weather radio has a special receiver that tunes to the 24/7 broadcast issued by the National Weather Service.

Backlight Display: The switch on the left side of the unit controls the “Hi” or “Low” backlight display. Programming Notes: Start Over - If you want to start over while programming, press MENU continuously until the unit exits the programming mode. If no program buttons are pressed - for about one minute the weather radio will exit the menu mode. Programming the Clock: Press MENU to open the menu options. Press UP directional arrow to scroll through the menu until you see “TIME.
Specific Area Message Encoding (S.A.M.E.) County Codes: In addition to your own county code, you can get the S.A.M.E. county code(s) for other counties close to you, especially the counties in the direction from which most of the storms come. Determine the counties you are interested in. To acquire the S.A.M.E. county codes, contact one of the following: The National Weather Service Toll-Free Number 1-888-NWS-S.A.M.E.
Programming S.A.M.E. County Codes Default Factory Setting of S.A.M.E. County Codes: Your Alert Works EAR-10 Emergency Alert Weather Radio comes preprogrammed to receive NWS weather and hazard alert transmissions for all S.A.M.E. county codes within range. If this is what you want, leave the radio set to “ANY.” To Program a Single S.A.M.E. County Code: Press MENU button to open menu options. Press UP directional arrow to scroll through menu options until “S.A.M.E. SET” is displayed; then press SELECT.
Reviewing the S.A.M.E. County Codes You Have Programmed: To review the S.A.M.E. county codes you have programmed into your weather radio, press MENU to open the programming menu, and follow the same sequence you used to program them. Adding New S.A.M.E. Event Codes: Periodically the National Weather Service may find it necessary to add new alert codes to the system. The EAR-10 will allow the user to program up to five new S.A.M.E. event codes into the radio. The new S.A.M.E.
Alert Type (DISPLAY, VOICE, OR TONE): 1. Press MENU to open menu options. 2. Press UP directional arrow to scroll through menu options until “ALT TYPE” (Alert Type) is displayed; then press SELECT. 3. Press UP directional arrow to scroll through the following (3) alert types: “DISPLAY”, “VOICE”, or “TONE.
Alert Test: To test the alert function and ensure that it is working, press MENU, then the UP directional arrow until “ALT TEST” is displayed. Press SELECT to sound the alert. Press the UP directional arrow to silence the alarm. Press MENU to exit. Test Signals Broadcast by the National Weather Ser vice: Service All National Weather Service stations periodically transmit test signals.
Troubleshooting: Problem No power Suggestion Is AC Power Adapter securely plugged into both DC jack on back of weather radio and into wall outlet? If AC power has failed, are batteries installed? No sound Check VOLUME. No weather Ensure that telescoping broadcast when antenna is up and fully you press extended. WEATHER/ If you are using an external SNOOZE button antenna, ensure that it is connected properly. Ensure that the radio is set to the NOAA weather channel in use in your area.
About NOAA, NWS, & S.A.M.E. County Codes: In 1994, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) began broadcasting coded emergency signals that identify the specific geographic area (such as the county within a state) that is affected by an emergency. Until that time such specific emergency weather information was not available directly to the public. NOAA transmits the coded emergency signals using a technique called Specific Area Message Encoding (S.A.M.E.
S.A.M.E. County Code Record: Use this space to keep a record of the S.A.M.E. county codes you program into your Alert Works EAR-10 Emergency Alert Weather Radio. County Name S.A.M.E. County Code NWR Channel* *Note if you have reason to switch between different weather radio channels, you may also wish to record the channel used for a particular county NWR frequency.
Reviewing Recent Alerts: The Alert Works EAR-10 Emergency Alert Weather Radio can store up to 10 different Weather/Hazard alerts (with overlapping effective times) in its memory. If the weather radio receives a new alert while any previous alert is still in effect, it automatically displays the new alert. You can review all alerts still in effect by pressing the UP directional arrow to scroll through the weather radio’s active alert memory. A double beep indicates the end of the list.
2) Include the following: Full description of any problems; Money order for $7.50 to cover return shipping and handling (may not be required in some states); Daytime telephone number, name and address. 3) For warranty service, include a photocopy of the bill of sale from an authorized dealer or other proof of purchase showing the date of sale. 4) You do not need to return accessory items (AC/DC adapter, batteries, User’s Guide) unless they might be directly related to the problem.
