1. Introduction Dear customer, Thank you for choosing an ADAM Audio monitor of the F-Series. ADAM loudspeakers are built for maximum quality reproduction and audio perfection. With the F-series you have selected a precise, high-resolution speaker system that allows you to both evaluate and enjoy audio recordings. This monitor meets highest expectations in sound quality and craftsmanship. This manual is intended to provide you with information about your new ADAMs.
2. Quick Start / Connections 2.1 Important Information for set up After having unpacked your loudspeakers, please allow the system to acclimate to the temperature of the room for approximately an hour. It is important to ensure the speakers sit firmly on a solid surface! We recommend that you retain the original packaging, as it is the best way to guarantee safe transportation should the need to do so arise. Please note that the loudspeakers will take some break-in time to achieve optimum sonic performance.
2. Quick Start / Connections e) On the rear panel of the loudspeakers, set the volume at low level and switch on the mains switch and wait for about 5 secs. The loudspeaker is now in Standby Mode and armed to automatically switch into Operating Mode as soon a signal is detected at any of the inputs. f) Turn on your source of music and adjust the volume slowly and carefully until the loudspeakers switch from Standby into Operating Mode, first using the volume control of your source.
3. Speaker Placement Please make sure that there are no obstacles in the way from the monitor to your ears. You should be able to see the speakers completely. 3.1 Vertical set up The F-series has been designed for a vertical set up. The speakers must be positioned on a solid surface or a stand. Please note that vibrating parts of nearby objects can mask the sound. 3.
3. Speaker Placement 3.5 Surround Placement Speaker positioning for multi-channel stereo purposes is ideally based on a circle with speakers placed at 0° (Center), 30° (Front Right), 110° (Rear Right), 250° (Rear Left), 330° (Front Left), with the listener being the circle’s center (Radius between 0.7-2.0 m). This ITU recommended configuration may vary depending on the purpose of the control room (music or film).
4. Speaker Adjustment 4.1 Controls On the rear side you will find controls that allow detailed fine-tuning of your loudspeakers to your particular room acoustics and personal listening preferences. The following tips are intended to assist you at using the controls in the best manner. Please note that using the controls may have a great impact on the overall sound characteristics of your loudspeakers.
5. Connecting the SubF Subwoofer 5.1 Connections On the rear side of the SubF you can find two sets of balanced XLR/TRS combo inputs and unbalanced RCA connectors. a) Before connecting the subwoofer to your audio components and the power source make sure that the subwoofer, the loudspeakers and your audio source are switched off and set the level controls fully counterclockwise. b) Choose your preferred connection as described under 5.2.
5. Connecting the SubF Subwoofer 5.3 Output To Satellite Connect the LEFT and RIGHT OUTPUT TO SATELLITE jacks to the inputs of the left and right main powered speakers or the inputs of the amps powering the main speakers. Again, when using two subwoofers (one for each channel), connect only the respective channel. Both the RCA and XLR outputs have the same output level, and do not apply any gain change to the satellite signal.
6. Subwoofer Placement It is common knowledge that single sources at low frequencies (below about 100Hz) are perceived as being non-directional under free field conditions, meaning they can hardly be located by the listener. It is, however, a common misunderstanding that therefore the placement of a mono (or two stereo) subwoofer(s) does not matter. It does matter. Due to the fact that every room (geometry, furniture, etc.
7. SubF Controls Controls for the Sub Level, Sub Filter, the signal phase and the satellite filter are located on the back panel of the subwoofer. The following tips are intended to assist you at using the controls in the best manner. 7.1 Level This controls the Input Sensitivity in a range from -∞dB to +12dB. In order to accommodate personal taste and any influence of Low Shelf controls of the satellites (when used), the volume control has a bigger maximum range than the satellites.
7. SubF Controls 7.3 Subwoofer Phase With the Phase Switch you can alter the phase of the subwoofer relative to the satellites. That means to change the polarity of the bass unit. Depending on the distance between woofer and satellites and on room acoustics, either 0° or 180° may be the better position. We recommend to try out what position sounds better within your system, but in most cases and in conjunction with F5/F7 speakers the phase switch should be left in the 0° position. 7.
8. Troubleshooting All ADAM products are designed and manufactured to the highest quality standards. However, if any problems with your speaker occur, we recommend to proceed as follows: 8.1 Problem: The LED shows normal operation (green) but there is either no or only a distorted audio signal. If both (all) speakers are affected, the reason can probably be found within the signal path. If only one speaker is affected, the problem will probably be within this speaker. a) b) c) Check the wiring.
9. Maintenance Please switch the loudspeaker off before cleaning! Please note that the diaphragms build up a magnetic field. Do not ply with magnetic items at close range to the diaphragms. Please make sure that no liquids get inside the cabinet. Do not spray any fluids on the speaker. Do not use a wet cloth for cleaning. Do not use flammable or acidic chemicals for cleaning. Do not touch the membranes of the loudspeakers. We recommend using a lint-free, damp cloth for cleaning.
