viii Taking care of your vision Long viewing hours, wearing incorrect glasses or contact lenses, glare, excessive room lighting, poorly focused screens, very small typefaces and low-contrast displays could stress your eyes. English 2 Setting up your computer Setting up your computer The AcerSystem is a versatile and powerful system, supporting a mainstream performance CPU. The computer uses a state-of-the-art bus architecture, which improves system efficiency and helps the system support varied multimedia and software applications. Your AcerSystem has standard I/O (input/output) interfaces such as USB 2.0 ports, and stereo microphone, line-in and line-out jacks (configuration may vary by models).

Connecting peripherals After everything is connected, plug the power cord into the system and insert the other end into a power outlet. Note: Don't connect the system power cord before connecting all peripherals to the system.
English 4 Setting up your computer Audio and Video Set up Procedures Audio output device priority: After finishing setting up your operating system, the audio output priority will be as shown in the table below. • USB speakers and HDMI devices can support hot-plugging. Analog speakers will always be listed in the output device priority list regardless of the presence or absence of the speakers.
5 • Right-click on the desktop and choose Screen resolution. • Choose the monitor that you want to set as the primary monitor and check Make this my main display, then press Apply and OK to change the setting. • If you want to extend your desktop to the second monitor, select the secondary monitor, then set it to Extend or Clone, and apply your change.
English 6 Frequently asked questions The following questions are possible situations that may arise during the use of your computer and each is followed by easy answers and solutions to the situation. Q: I pressed the power switch but the system did not boot up. A: Check the LED located above the power switch. If the LED is not lit, no power is being applied to the system.
7 A: Do the following: • Make sure that the printer is connected to a power outlet and that it is turned on. • Make sure that the printer cable is connected securely to the system's parallel port and the corresponding port on the printer. • For additional information concerning the printer, refer to the printer's documentation. Q: No sound comes out from the computer. A: Check the following: • The volume may be muted. Look for the Volume icon on the taskbar.
English 8 Taking care of your computer Please read the important instructions listed in this section. Following these instructions will help you maximize the durability of your computer. Important tips • Do not expose the computer to direct sunlight. Do not place it near sources of heat, such as a radiator. • Do not expose the computer to temperatures below 0oC (32oF), or above 35oC (95oF). • Do not subject the computer to magnetic fields. • Do not expose the computer to rain or moisture.
9 To clean a regular mouse (with rubber ball) 1 2 3 Open the circular cover at the base of the mouse. Take out the rubber ball and wipe it with a soft, damp cloth. Put the ball back and replace the cover. To clean an optical mouse For users of an optical mouse, refer to the documentation that came with your mouse for maintenance instructions. To clean your monitor Make sure that you keep your screen clean. For cleaning instructions, refer to the documentation that came with your monitor.
