Acer p700 Series Portable Navigator setup Acer p700 Series Portable Navigator setup Using your new Acer p700 Series Portable Navigator for the first time is a snap. Unpack, turn on, mount and you’re ready to go. Perform the following easy installation tasks to start using the device straight out of the box: 1. 2. Unpack the device. First things first System tour No Icon Component Description 1 Touch screen Displays the applications, data, and map images available on your device. It is touch sensitive and responds to finger taps. 2 Power status LED indicator Indicates the battery charging status. • Green – Battery is fully charged • Orange – Battery charging • Red – Battery low 3 Volume down button Decreases speaker volume. Navigation button Takes you to the navigation panel to display your current location.

If pressed for less than 1.5 seconds, the device will enter suspend mode; if pressed for longer then 1.5 seconds, the backlight will turn On/ Off. GPS antenna jack Connects to an external GPS antenna. 3 Soft reset button Used to do a soft reset of the device. For more information, see "Performing a soft reset" on page 53.

First things first Setting up the Acer p700 Series Portable Navigator in your vehicle Setting up the Acer p700 Series Portable Navigator in your vehicle The Acer p700 Series Portable Navigator comes with a car mount kit and a car charger so you can set up your device in your vehicle. Position the car mount kit on the windscreen using the suction cup. NOTE: Some newer vehicle models may have a heat reflective shield embedded in the windscreen. This may in some cases obstruct the GPS signal reception.

First things first Setting up the Acer p700 Series Portable Navigator in your vehicle 5 Dock the device on the car holder. + + 6 Dock the device with holder on the car mount which has been mounted to your windscreen then adjust the car mount for the best viewing angle. 7 After setting up the device on the car mount, connect the car charger. The power LED indicator lights up orange during charging.

After screen calibration, proceed to configure system settings. To turn on and calibrate the device: 1 When you first turn on your device, you will be asked to calibrate the screen. This process ensures that when you tap the screen the item tapped is activated.
First things first Starting up the Acer p700 Series Portable Navigator Tap Time: – Tap + or - beside the Hour and Minute settings to set the time values. – Tap the down arrow beside the Time Zone until the time zone of your choice is displayed. Step 3: Password Setting After Date/Time/Time Zone settings is done, the screen below will pop up. – Tap YES to set up your password, or tap NO to skip.

(Bluetooth function is for selected models only: p760 and p780) – After tapping YES, the screen below will open. Tap Bluetooth connections. to search for – Select the desired mobile phone from the list (tap the down arrow to display the full list) and then tap to pair with the phone.

(Screen image will vary depending on the model of your phone). – Once pairing is complete, your mobile phone will display a confirmation message. Step 5: Navigation Settings – If you skip the Bluetooth settings, the Navigation Settings screen will display.

Acer p700 Series Portabl e Navigator fundamentals Hardware interface 1 Acer p700 Series Portable Navigator fundamentals This chapter describes basic hardware procedures when using your Acer p700 Series Portable Navigator. Information on the device’s command interface is also provided. Hardware interface Using the touch screen backlight Under some lighting conditions, viewing the information on your device may be difficult.
Acer p700 Series Portabl e Navigator fundamentals Hardware interface • Hold the device securely and push the card into the slot until you hear an audible system sound: this will signal that the card is properly seated in the slot. The card is secure when it is not protruding from the slot. Removing a storage card 1 Hold the device securely and push in the SD card slightly to allow it to spring out. An audible system sound will signal that the card has been released.

Using SD/MMC card as Mass Storage You can access data on an SD/MMC card using your Acer p700 Series. NOTE: The SD/MMC card must be inserted into the device to be used as mass storage.
Acer p700 Series Portabl e Navigator fundamentals Recharging the Acer p700 Series Portable Navigator Recharging the Acer p700 Series Portable Navigator Your Acer p700 Series Portable Navigator uses a rechargeable 1100 mAh Lithium ion battery. The status icon located on the top right corner of the Main Menu screen indicates the level of the device’s battery power. If the battery level becomes low in the course of normal use, recharge the device.

Recharging the device using the USB cable The Mini USB Sync and charge cable that comes with your device enables you to connect your device to a computer running on the Microsoft Windows platform. When connected, the device battery is also recharged via the USB connection.

Acer p700 Series Portabl e Navigator fundamentals Main Menu screen There are ten program icons on the Main Menu screen. Tap to display the Destination Menu. Refer to the Navigation software. Tap to personalize your navigation settings. Tap to program CoPilot to make a detour a part of the calculated route. Tap to choose from six different screen display options. Tap to show Phone Menu. Tap to display the TMC Menu, refer to the Navigation Software. Tap to plan or edit trip with multiple destinations.

After the application loads, the main Destination menu will appear. For more information regarding the Destination function, please see the Navigation Software Quick Start Guide or the software User’s Guide.

Applications Accessing the Photo Viewer i) Photo Viewer This chapter describes how to access and use the photo viewer. Accessing the Photo Viewer Switch the unit on and tap Photo in the Main Menu screen. Photo Viewer consists of 4 user interactive parts, "Thumbnail viewer", "Playing panel", "Full viewer", and "Slide show"; "Thumbnail viewer" is the first screen when Photo Viewer is launched.
Applications Using the Photo Viewer Using the Photo Viewer Thumbnail viewer Thumbnail viewer searches for and list all supported image files and image folders that include those supported files (supports: *.JPG, *.BMP, *.GIF). Each image file is presented as its thumbnail; each image folder is presented as an icon showing 4 small images (in the first layered sub-folder).
Applications Using the Photo Viewer Selecting the target window In the "Select Target" window, you can select the target folder to which image files will be copied. Tapping the copy button will show confirm dialog and then show progress dialog. The root directory is in the [MyStorage] or the [SDMMC] folders. "Parent", "Copy", "Cancel", "Next", and "Previous" buttons can be used to navigate key functions.

Applications Using the Photo Viewer Full viewer – When a photo is opened, a software button in the Playing Panel will appear; click it to switch to full view – Tap any place in screen to return to Playing Panel Slide show – Displays all selected images in Thumbnail Viewer as a slide show – Each photo is displayed for 5 seconds – Touch the screen to close the slide show and return to the Playing Panel NOTE: To deselect a highlighted photo, simply tap it again.
Applications Accessing contacts ii) Contacts This chapter describes how to manage contact details, including importing, exporting and sending contacts functions. Bluetooth functionality is only enabled for the p760 and p780. Accessing contacts Switch the unit on and tap Contacts in the Main Menu screen.
Applications Managing contact Create new contact Select All Deselect All Delete contact Return to Main Menu You can store and edit contact information on your device. You can then use this later to find this contact’s address quickly on your GPS navigator. Managing contact Creating a new contact To create a new contact, tap the Create new contact button .
Applications Managing contact Enter into navigator Return to Contacts list Close window Enter the following information for the contact: • Name • Family (Last Name) • Phone • Mobile • Street • City • State • Zip • Country • Title • Company • Email Also, if you wish this contact to be included in your panic list, tick the Used for Emergency checkbox. If you want to immediately feed this contact's address into your GPS navigator, tap the Enter into navigator button .
Applications Importing / exporting / sending contacts Importing / exporting / sending contacts Importing To import or export a contact, tap the Import / export contact button view list. You will now see the following screen: from the To import a contact from the SD / MMC card to the main memory, tap Import. The following screen will now appear: You can tap each contact to multi-select and tap again to deselect. Once you have selected the contact(s) you wish to import, tap Import .
Applications Importing / exporting / sending contacts Then a screen will display and tap OK. Exporting To export one or more contact(s) from the main memory to the SD/MMC card, select the contact(s) you want to export. You can either – Tap the list bar beside each contact to select (tapping again will deselect), or – Tap Select All – Tap Deselect All Tap 24 to select all contacts, or to deselect all contacts.
Applications Importing / exporting / sending contacts Once you have selected the contact(s) you want to export, tap Export . If exported successfully, a dialog will display and show the saving path and file name, then tap OK to finish it. Sending contact information to another device To send the contact information to another bluetooth-enabled device tap Send. You device will start to send contact information to the connected mobile phone.

The Language screen will now appear in the display: • To change the Text language, tap the down arrow to display a drop- down list of languages, then tap a language from the list. Once you have finished, tap Back . Adjusting Settings Setting the volume Tap Volume on the System screen.
System Adjusting Settings The Volume screen will now appear on the display. Tap the +/- buttons to increase or decrease the volume. (Alternatively, you may also use the +/- hotkeys.) Check the "Enable sounds for taps" option if you would like to hear a clicking sound each time you tap a button. Once you have finished, tap Back . Muting the volume Tap the Mute button to disable sound. Tap the Mute button to enable sounds. Once you have finished, tap Back 28 .
System Adjusting Settings Setting the date and time Tap Date/Time on the System screen. The Date/Time screen will now appear in the display. Changing the time zone To change the time zone, tap the down arrow beside Time Zone. From the drop down list that appears, tap on the time zone you want to use. Choosing Daylight Saving If you live in an area that uses Daylight Saving (moving the clock forward/back an hour each year), then make sure that the Daylight Saving checkbox is checked.

The Date screen will now appear. • To adjust the year, tap the +/ - buttons beside Year. • To adjust the month, tap the +/- buttons beside Month. • To adjust the day, tap the +/- buttons beside Day. Once you have finished, tap Back . Changing the time To change the time, tap Time (on the Time/Date screen). The Time screen will now appear.
System Adjusting Settings Power Tap Power on the System screen. The Power screen will now appear in the display. • To adjust the idle time before suspension, tap the +/- buttons beside Power. • To adjust how long to suspend while using battery power, tap the +/- buttons beside Battery. • To adjust how long to suspend while using external power, tap the +/buttons beside AC Power. Once you have finished, tap Back . Backlight Tap Backlight on the System screen.
System Adjusting Settings The Backlight screen will now appear in the display. • To adjust the brightness, tap the +/- buttons beside Backlight. • To adjust how long the backlight turns off while using battery power, tap the +/- buttons beside Battery. • To adjust how long before the backlight will turn off while using external power, tap the +/- buttons beside AC Power. Calibration Tap Calibration on the System screen. To recalibrate the screen, tap the black dot to calibrate the device.
System Adjusting Settings Factory Default Tap Factory Default on the System screen to reset your device to factory default settings. System information Tap Sys. Info. on the System screen. The System Info screen will now appear on the display. Here you can see your device’s Product ID, OS Version, AP version, S/N, PCB version, Bluetooth address (only in p760 and p780), Bootloader version, GPS firmware, TMC version, License, Manufacturer, and Copyright statement, Trademark and Logo (© 2007 Acer Inc.
System Adjusting Settings Setting the password Tap Password on the System screen. Enter your new password (four-letter maximum) Tap . Enter your new password again.
System Adjusting Settings Tap again to finish setting the Password. If you want to change to a new password, enter the current password. Enter the new password and tap Enter the new password again and tap . , to finish setting the new password.
System Adjusting Settings If you want to abort the new password setting, tap Password again. Check Skip new password setting. A screen will display, tap YES to confirm the cancellation. Once the password setting is complete, the next time you perform a soft reset or hit the power switch, you will have to enter the correct password to operate p700.
System Adjusting Settings Key Lock Pressing both the Volume down and Volume up buttons at the same time for over 3 seconds causes the p700 to enter the Lock state. The below message will also display. During Lock state, there will be no reaction to whatever buttons you press. Press both Volume down and Volume up buttons at the same time for over 3 seconds again to unlock the p700.
Bluetooth Phone 5 Bluetooth Phone Bluetooth functon is only enabled for the p760 and p780. Connecting your mobile phone using Bluetooth By "pairing" your mobile phone to the p700, you can use the p700 as a handsfree device for added convenience and safety while driving. Tap the "Phone" on from the 2nd page of the Main Menu. Tap the "Enable" icon. You may have to wait a few seconds while Bluetooth is enabled. Once Bluetooth is enabled, the grayed out items will be available for selection.
Bluetooth Phone Tap the "Connect Phone" icon to start searching for your mobile phone. It requires few minutes while searching for your mobile phone. If there is more than one device detected, use the drop-down menu to select the proper device. Select the proper device.
Bluetooth Phone Tap , the p700 will attempt to connect to your mobile phone. When prompted, enter "1111" on your mobile phone to complete pairing. (Screen image will vary depending on the model of your phone). Once pairing is complete, your mobile phone will display a confirmation message. The p700 will return to the Phone menu.
Bluetooth Phone Checking the Bluetooth status of your p700 Checking the Bluetooth status of your p700 You can check the status via the Bluetooth icon from the map screen - there are 3 states. Description Bluetooth disabled - In this state, Bluetooth is disabled and the handsfree function is not available. Bluetooth-enabled phone not connected/paired - In this state, Bluetooth is enabled but not connected to any mobile phone. You can not make call or receive calls.
Bluetooth Phone Making and receiving phone calls Making and receiving phone calls After successfully connecting your p700 to your mobile phone, you can start using the p700 as a hands-free device. Hands-free functionality is available when initiating calls from the mobile phone (recommended) or when initiating calls from the p700. Handsfree functionality is also available when receiving calls to your mobile phone.
Bluetooth Phone Making a phone call using your mobile phone Select to end the call. Dial from Contacts When making a phone call, you can dial from contacts. Tap to select a phone number from the contact list. Select a name from contact and tap to return to the dialing screen.
Bluetooth Phone Making a phone call using your mobile phone Tap to make the call. Dial from Dialed Numbers When making a phone call, you can dial from call history. Tap to select a phone number from the call history. Select a name from call history and tap Tap 44 to make the call. to return to the dialing screen.
Bluetooth Phone Making a phone call while navigating Making a phone call while navigating Note: The Phone Button will only be available when Bluetooth is activated on both your p700 and your mobile phone, and the phone is successfully connected to the p700. After suspending and resuming your p700 (i.e. switching off/on for a period of time), the Phone button will not appear unless you connect to a phone.
Bluetooth Phone Answering an incoming call while navigating If you want to stop the call, tap . Press the NAVI button to return to the Map screen. On the Map screen, you can tap to return to the dialing screen. Answering an incoming call while navigating When navigating, you will be able to accept incoming calls using your p700 as a hands-free phone. When a call is received, you will see the following screen. Select 46 to answer the incoming call.
Bluetooth Phone Answering an incoming call while navigating Or select to reject the incoming call. After you accept an incoming call, use your p700 as a hands-free device. During a call, press the NAVI button to return to the Map screen and tap the switch to the dialing screen. Select using the to to end the call. If necessary, switch to the conversation screen button first.
Bluetooth Phone Sending location Sending location After connecting to your phone, you can send your current location to other people via SMS. Send a message via your mobile phone. Tap to send message, and message is sent as a "predefined text Address: XXXX, GPS:0000".
Bluetooth Phone Predefining text After sending, your p700 will display a confirmation message. You can also send your location via the contacts and dialed numbers lists. (Refer to "Dial from contacts" and "Dial from history") Predefining text Tap the "Predefined Text" icon on the second page of the phone menu. Tap to edit predefined text.
Bluetooth Phone Synchronizing contacts After finishing, tap Tap and return to the following screen. to save the predefined text and return. Synchronizing contacts Tap the "Contacts Sync." icon on the second page of phone menu. The p700 will sync. contacts with your mobile phone. Tap p700 will confirm if you want to sync. contacts.
Bluetooth Phone Sending emergency Tap YES. The p700 will start to sync. Sending emergency Tap the "Send Emergency" icon on the first page of the phone menu. After displaying the confirmation message, tap YES to proceed to the next step.
Bluetooth Phone Sending emergency If the p700 is not connected to a phone, it will automatically connect to the last connected phone. After connecting to a phone. The p700 will check the contacts to find people who are set as emergency contacts. And then send emergency message in a format of "SOS: predefined text address: xxxx, GPS: 0000" to the people who are set as "Used for Emergency".
Resetting the Acer p700 Se r i e s P o r t a b l e N a v i g a t o r Performing a soft reset 6 Resetting the Acer p700 Series Portable Navigator You may have to perform a reset if the device freezes (i.e., device no longer responds to the buttons on the screen). A soft reset allows your device to get a fresh start, similar to rebooting a computer. This will restart your device and adjust memory allocation. All records and entries are retained after a soft reset. GPS settings are also retained.
Resetting the Acer p700 Series Portable Navigator Performing a hard reset Performing a hard reset If a soft reset does not correct the problem, you can then try a hard reset. Slide the power switch to the left and then slide it back to the right. NOTE: Performing a hard reset will clear the RAM in the unit and reset the GPS of the unit.
